My wife and I stayed in the Gideon Ormsby room for our 15th wedding anniversary. Maryann and Jack both greeted us upon our arrival and showed us to our room. The jacuzzi bathtub was lovely, the bed was very comfortable, and the small touches--cookies, plush robes, bottles of water--added up to very warm hospitality. We enjoyed sitting in the main room in the evening, reading about the house's history. Among its guests when Edward Isham owned the house were Isham's law partner, Robert Todd Lincoln (the only child of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln to survive into adulthood) and William Howard Taft. As a history buff, that aspect of the house really scratched my itch. The breakfast was fresh, warm, and delicious. We had a wonderful chat with Candi, who wears lots of hats at the inn and is an obvious asset to the owners. This was our first-ever stay at a B&B, and The Inn at Ormsby Hill set the bar very high. I hope to return before long.

Was such a wonderful stay in the most beautiful Inn hosted by MaryAnn and Jack. Their place is decorated beautifully, immaculate with amazing woodwork and fireplaces. Love the sunroom where we had one of the best breakfast ever. One day was delicious French toast with bacon and the next day were eggs. Each day coffee, juice and a yogurt fruit parfait with homemade granola. I wish I could eat like that all the time at home. Their help staff in the morning was great and really nice to talk to. Wonderful service. Our room was perfect with such a comfortable big bed. Great location too! Can’t wait to return again to such a gracious Inn.

I can't say enough good things about our stay at Ormsby Hill. We were gathered for a memorial for a dear friend in an historic inn that had once been the family home. It was beautifully maintained--bright, immaculate and welcoming inside with ample seating for guests in the verdant grounds. Our room, named after a president, was positively regal. The breakfasts were lovingly prepared and they even offered free copies of their granola recipe. I appreciated the well stocked library of books to read for every taste. There were so many comfortable nooks and crannies for guests to congregate. There were even freshly baked cookies in our room! A nice selection of wine was made available to guests. It was a perfect setting for a gathering of family and friends.

It was our privilege to host the family that means so much to the history of this property. The INN at Ormsby Hill is fortunate to have been able to host many guests over the years from the 1890s with Edward Isham and family welcoming Robert Todd Lincoln, Howard Taft and other prominent figures of that era. The Hardyman family continued maintaining the property and brought so many people together over the years. After the property was sold in the 1980s and converted to a bed and breakfast, the inn has been visited by many more people that get to enjoy a stay in a grand old Vermont home. We thank you. Maryann and Jack

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Library Room at Ormsby Hill. The room is comfortable and cozy and very well attended to. The public areas are beautifully appointed....the fireplaces blazing during our very cold winter stay. The dining area is so inviting with its wonderful views and the breakfasts prepared and served by MaryAnn and Jack were to die for. The French toast and granola and yogurt parfaits were delicious. The owners, MaryAnn and Jack, were accommodating in every way. Historic Manchester is a great area to explore, and the Inn at Ormsby Hill is THE place to stay. We will definitely return to Ormsby Hill for another relaxing getaway.

We needed a getaway from work and errand filled weekends weren’t doing the trick. This inn was a last minute booking and it was truly the purest form of downtime a couple could ask for. The owners took great care of us. From the welcome cookies to the breakfasts (we duplicated these at home now because they made us feel good) to the informed tips on where to go nearby - all around it was the detachment from the grind we needed to recharge. Warning, the hot tub and gas fireplace will make you feel super relaxed, so don’t get so comfortable that you miss out on what Vermont has to offer. We visited Friesians Of Majesty and enjoyed a horse drawn sleigh ride with a backstory to remember followed by a tour of the ranch (we plan to go back when it gets warmer too for the horse shows they plan to put on inside). One of our dinners was at the nearby Dorset Inn (Great service, food and ambiance). We also took a snowmobiling tour that I highly enjoyed (dress warm and bring hand warmers if you plan to go on the sunset tour like we did). The town is conveniently located just a few miles away. There a plenty of places to check out, but we only had time to visit Northshire Bookstore where we ended up spending a lot more time than we expected enjoying all they had to offer. The Ormsby is well worth the trip. Be sure to spend some time in the dining and board game rooms and read up on the history of the place. Just going through the pictures of each room is fun on its own as each one has a different personality.

This lovely old inn was a last minute booking for us but we got lucky. We had to make two changes to our original plans and the innkeepers Jack and MaryAnn were gracious and accommodating. We tried a queen room and a king room and both were comfortable. We made use of the jacuzzi tub and fireplaces which were a relaxing bonus. Breakfast each day was delicious and the homemade cookies left in our rooms upon check-in were a nice treat. It’s an old building, so be prepared for some wonky floors and doors and staircases but as long as you don’t have any mobility issues and can appreciate the history you will enjoy it. The only other comment is that I wish they had rooms with two beds so I could make a return visit with a friend.

Thanks Kimberly for staying. A few of the rooms have pull out sofas - one, the Frances Suite has two separate bathrooms - one king bed and a separate room with a pullout sofa. Sorry that we didn't mention that to you. We hope to see you again. Jack

The hosts were warm without being intrusive, and they were flexible, making us a great breakfast before we got an early start to ski. Room and whole building were great! We’d most definitely go back, and a big thank you to Maryann and Jack!

It's difficult to put into words how special my experience was here, but here it goes. MaryAnn and Jack have taken it upon themselves to make every aspect of our stay as memorable as possible. I took my partner here for her birthday and I paid a small fee for one of the best chocolate ganache cakes I've ever had along with a bottle of Prosecco. The best part of course was that it was waiting on the bed when we arrived. I won't go into every single amenity since they are documented very well on the website, but I struggle to understand why anyone would pay for a room at the Hampton when this gem is only a few minutes away. Among other things, we had a steam shower, a whirlpool tub, and a gas fireplace. Then when we woke up in the morning we had a great view of the mountains. MaryAnn and Jack obviously take pride in what they do. When we had an issue with our gas fireplace, Jack was there to fix it less than 10 minutes later. The breakfast they prepare in the morning feels made to order rather than prepared en masse, and MaryAnn checked with us first to see if we had any dietary restrictions. The common areas are wide open spaces with tons of books and places to sit and chat. I even taught my partner how to play chess here on one of the tables! They also have a space dedicated to finding local activities. During the day, we spent our time cross country skiing, touring the Lincoln family home at Hildene, and visiting all sorts of shops and cafes in Manchester. I plan on returning in the summer for my own birthday when the Peonies start to bloom. MaryAnn and Jack are great people and will do anything they can to make your experience an unforgettable one.
