Such a nice place to stay! Conveniently located in the heart of Manchester, close to shops and restaurants but the feeling of an intimate getaway. We stayed for our 20 th wedding anniversary and from the moment we walked in we were congratulated and greeted so nicely! Our room was large and comfortable with a fireplace and jacuzzi tub looking out to the mountains. They also present you with breakfast in an adorable picnic basket each morning. They even schedule it to a time convenient for you! The restaurant is amazing! The food was absolutely delicious!!! The room has everything you could need. I would definitely go back and loved the hospitality and the accommodations!
Our third stay at this lovely location was very enjoyable. The couple traveling with us enjoyed their first experience. Bonnie and Kathleen in the hotel. Matt and Tom treated us very well and made our anniversary special in the restaurant.
Not the biggest name in Manchester but worth the visit. COVID restrictions limit the breakfast offerings to boxed meals....presented exactly as ordered and delivered by a delightful breakfast chef. Rooms are very nice and have adequate WIFI with cute names for each room/suite. Dining is fine with moderate menu and adequate hospitality.
We had a wonderful visit at this charming hotel. Our stay was for 2 nights in the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Suite. Since we were staying on a Mon/Tues the hotel was moderately quiet; just what we like! Our room was spacious with a entry/bench on the ground level and a nicely appointed landing, sitting room, bedroom and beautiful bathroom on the 2nd level. Very comfortable spaces! (Only drawback was that the street noise from truck traffic got a bit heavy just before dawn. If you're a light sleeper, staying in this suite, maybe bring earplugs or white-noise player). I loved the spacious bathroom! The jetted tub was so nice (didn't turn on the jets, though). Frette robes seemed to be quite nice. Complementary toiletries were upgrades from standard hotels. Having a magnifying mirror was a plus. We very much enjoyed our breakfast hamper each morning. I believe it was also possible to have breakfast in the dining room, but having those lovely hampers brought to the room was very special. Continental breakfast was very well proportioned for us and thermos of coffee was wonderful (Even though the room had a Kuerig, I like a fresh brewed pot). Room also had nice (glass) bottled water. Hotel restaurant wasn't open early week, but we had wonderful meals at Ye Old Tavern (upscale) and Christo's (very casual). The staff at TRP were really great! Kathleen accompanied us to our room, showing us around the space and giving us some helpful info. She advised us about dining options (limited early week) and made a booking for us at Ye Old Tavern, when we probably couldn't have gotten in otherwise. So nice! In the morning, Richard was likewise very helpful with giving us guidance about hiking in the area and selling us tickets to Hildene (@ discount from tickets bought onsite). The grounds are beautiful; we would have enjoyed having an evening drink by the pond, if we weren't so busy. On our departure, a beautiful grey Herron came walking across our path. He seemed right at home as I think any guest would feel here!…
This review is of the pet-friendly Pond View Suite. There was no usable WiFi signal in the room - one staff member suggested that I could go to the main building and sit in the dining room to use the WiFi as the signal was stronger there. One of the screen doors to the room had a large tear so it was unusable. There was mold in the shower grout. The window treatment over the living room windows was broken and could not be raised . The room was completely uninviting - no throw pillows on the sofa or chairs and not a single decorative item on the nicely painted built-in shelves. The magnifying mirror over the bath vanity has such a short arm that in order to use it you have to be at least 5'10" to reach it over the depth of the vanity. When making this reservation I specifically asked if this pet-friendly suite was equivalent in quality to the other suites and was told the only difference was a wood floor as opposed to carpeting in the others. I hate to leave such a bad review in these times but this is just unacceptable. On the up side, the mattress was super firm and so the bed was very comfortable. Finally, note that some of the website pictures show an "SLH" (Small Luxury Hotel) logo but this property is not on the SLH website. On a prior stay we found the Kimpton Taconic to be higher quality for pet-friendly accommodations at about the same price.…
What a delightful dinner we had on a recent Saturday night while on a weekend getaway. From the moment we were greeted by the friendly and energetic host, to the excellent service and food, we really enjoyed our experience. It is clear the team is well managed and customer focused. We loved our waiter, a tall and very helpful man who clearly excels at his job. Our meals were delicious: cucumber/avocado soup to start, sea bass and vegetarian risotto for each of us respectively and the perfectly portioned baked Alaska for dessert. We’ll be back!!!
My wife and I had a wonderful three day (two night) getaway to the Reluctant Panther. Our room in the main house was spacious and very comfortable, the breakfasts were yummy, and the dinner that we had in the dining room was fabulous.
Maybe it was an off night. Maybe. Started off well with delicious rosemary bread and sesame rolls The falafel appetizer had nice sauces to go with it but the 4 falafel balls were very overfried and small. I had the shortribs which when served looked like something out of a college cafeteria, with the meat (not real short rib but that brisket like pale substitute) dumped on mashed potatoes (maybe real, maybe not) and with that pile of corn on the side (maybe frozen, maybe not). "My wife had trout "stuffed" with crab. It was a smear of crab at best. Didn't bother with dessert. Service was fine.
My wife and I have been going to the Reluctant Panther for a long time and have experienced multiple owners. We can both confidently say that the current staff is one of the best! Morgan, Matt, Sigal, Richard, Bonnie, and Abby have returned the warmth and comfort that have been missing for so long. From the moment we checked in, until our departure. they were attentive, friendly, and accommodating. As always the menu was spectacular and the food delicious, service impeccable, and the atmosphere cozy and inviting. My wife enjoyed the lamb and I the Sea Bass, we enjoyed it so much we ate there again three nights later. This time my wife had the scallops and I had the pork chop, equally as delicious. We are both looking forward to our next visit.
We recently wanted to get away for a few days to take advantage of things starting to reopen now that enough sensible people are being vaccinated and we feel safe. This was our first visit to The Reluctant Panther it was a great choice. Our thanks to Bonnie for helping us decide on our suite as a start. She and the staff were very welcoming, pleasant and helpful. Procedures in place made us feel as comfortable as could be. Staying, and thoroughly enjoying the stay, at The Reluctant Panther was a perfect way for us to get out and about again. Thank you all.
