This location is about the property, not the room. U shaped hotel on sprawling piece of property. Simply beautiful grounds with outdoor pool, outdoor whirlpool, and indoor lap pool. Took the hotel bikes for a ride through neighboring town and golf course. The Tavern is under a covered outdoor structure, with entertainment both nights we were there. Food was much better than expected (the turkey club sandwich had a truly delectable smokiness not often found). The rooms were spacious and serviceable (kitchen area, couch, and desk in living room area, and firm King bed in bedroom. Room decor could have more flourishes but was on par with other suite hotels. The rest of the property (lobby, grounds, etc) have so much charm that you expect more from the rooms but they are more than adequate. The staff could not be nicer, despite being challenged by Covid requirements (particularly all they need to go through in the restaurant). Very happy that they took our name and phone number before each meal for contact tracing. Hard to believe that we don't do that in our home state of NY. Overall, this is a great place to get away to.

The Essex is always a wonderful and peaceful vacation destination. This is something for everyone. The rooms are spacious and the hospitality is always top notch. The spa brings nothing but relaxation and peace of mind. They have done well with the current limitations to make this still one of the best experiences one can have on a vacation getaway.

We can’t wait to go back already! The Essex Resort & Spa was the perfect work/family getaway. Their expansive grounds lead to endless possibilities; from their backyard lawn games, tennis and the playground for the kids... plus pools and hot tub for all of us...and of course evening drinks by the fire pit for the adults. The double queen room with sleeper sofa was just the perfect size and amount of space for our family of four. I was able work either at the desk in the room or find a number of great sports throughout the property. Definitely a great place to stay and explore Vermont. I highly recommend it for anyone traveling to Northern Vermont (I have already referred it to my friends and their families). Brian D Portland, Maine

Yes, tennis court time was free, and yes they had a bocce court, and yes, the on-site food was very good (kudos to chef Dante and chef Nicole). I would be tempted to try again, but 1 - I would be diligent about checking in with them to make sure things were still on track. 2 - they lost track of our reservation for the culinary experience (their raison d’etre). Okay, Covid-19, we were overlooked, stuff happens. Their proposed solution was weak, and they didn’t work hard enough to come up with a good solution, which I had to suggest. What we wanted to do was no line ran option. But we were able to attend a cooking demo by Dante that was good fun and very good food. 3 - the quality of the mattress was not what I would hope for, when paying $788 for two nights. Really nothing in the room was.

Overall great resort and amenities. Family really enjoyed pools and hot tub. We enjoyed being outside of Burlington...15 min drive. Few recommendations to hotel....have coffee out all day/night. Offer treats in the morning and perhaps cookies at night (complimentary). Also, front desk should be more attentive to things. Little things like that says a lot about a place. Would most likely stay here again.
