For the price point, I wasn't sure what to expect. But what I found was a shiny gem in a beautiful green setting. Wonderfully helpful staff, convenient but quiet location, outstanding suite that is bigger than most apartments, clean outdoor pool, fantastic indoor lap pool and spa services rivals any I've been to. Even the restaurants are first rate. A... More

We loved The Essex. The highlight for us was the food, both in the Brasserie/Pub and the more formal restaurant. We ate on the terrace listening to live music and loved it, the next night we ate in the formal restaurant. Service was a little slow in the bar, but the food was universally fantastic. Our server in the restaurant... More

The Essex Resort Inn and Spa as a hotel/place to stay is a bit like a comfortable old aunt who has a bit of a dotty streak. On the outside it is a rambling group of Colonial old buildings set in manicured grounds, an oasis from nearby Burlington which can be hectic at times. The main building is like a... More

I have to say that I thought customer service was gone...however the Essex proved me wrong. Really attentive young group of people. The grounds and service were beautiful and the food in both restaurants were very good. I want to come back with my girlfriends. It would be a nice healthy getaway!

The one bedroom suite was large and comfortable, great for an extended stay and with the pull-out sofa sleeper bed, could accommodate four people. Kitchen equipped with basics. The grounds are beautiful and the spa, with its fireplaces, looks like a cozy place to relax on cold winter day.

We just stayed 2 nights, but had 2 very nice rooms. They were very clean, beds were comfortable and the staff very pleasant. We used both the indoor and outdoor pools which we all enjoyed. It was let down by the awful service in the Tavern. We had to wait ages to order food and ages for it to arrive.... More

If you're looking for a charming resort outside of Burlington with great amenities and a clear culinary focus, Essex Inn is an excellent option. I spent a long weekend in Vermont primarily doing outdoor activities (kayaking, cycling and hiking) in and around Burlington, and the Essex was a fairly convenient launch point for all of those activities (it's an easy... This stay had been booked online with hotels.com and the suite was what we wanted as we were 2 couples - girlfriend and me and my girlfriend's parents. It was a good deal so we purchased it. Upon our arrival, the check-in process was completely over complicated and confusing. From "no reservation on file" ; "reservation cancelled by Expedia" (note... More

We travelled to Burlington on the Amtrak Vermonter for our sons birthday. We chose the Essex because of its location and amenities and we weren't disappointed in our choice. The two restaurants on site offered many options for our tastes and we had great meals. The kids loved the pools (indoor and outdoor) and loved the baked goods offered in... More

Great place. Food was excellent except for breakfast. Was hoping for quiet time at the pool. Disappointed that I heard a mother tell a guest that she lives locally and she uses the pool to bring her kids without paying the membership. She also had brought down some of her other family members, and using the reclining chairs. Which were... More
