Two couples, staying for three nights - around $2,700 stay. My expectations were a bit higher; so, I was disappointed. I agree with some of the other reviews concerning the need to update. However, my disappointment was with the overall service, attention to detail, and lack of genuine customer care. The front desk staff was not very welcoming, the cleanliness was lacking, and just an overall disconnect with their guests. An empty tray sat by the elevator for many hours. I honestly believe it was a day or more, but will give the benefit of the doubt that the original tray was eventually picked up and another placed in the exact same spot. We went to sit on a couch, but had to move decorations back to the table, only to find used tissues mixed in. The highlight was the spa; the facilities are beautiful, services were exceptional, and the massage therapist was one of the best I have ever experienced. Such a beautiful resort. Just a shame it is not close to what I expected, what we paid, nor the potential. …
Five star dinner at the Junction Restaurant. Excellent culinary experience with Chef Denise at the Creative Kitchen.. The Essex is definitely five star in all categories The grounds are beautiful the staff always friendly and professional.
We upgraded to the 1 bdrm suite. The room was clean but decor was outdated. These rooms could sure use a makeover. The furniture in the room was worn, gold/brass faucets was out in the 70/80’s. The bed was extremely uncomfortable. The staff at the junction and tavern restaurant were very friendly and food was good. Overall enjoyed our stay except our room accommodations.
We stayed at this resort because we were visiting a family member at Maple Ridge which is the nursing facility next door. The Resort is beautiful. The common space at the entrance is lovely with pastries and snacks available in the front area. The pool is great and we hung out for the afternoon. We had breakfast and lunch at the tavern, and loved our experience. Food was delicious. Here are my two complaints. The elevator smells and has a very dirty rug. I have a bad foot, so couldn't walk up the stairs. Also, the sink in our room was cracked and it collected dirt. Not expected from such a high quality place. But other than that, we did love the fireplace in the room and the culinary decor. We definitely recommend this resort.
We chose this hotel because downtown Burlington ones are overpriced and the Essex Resort was a better choice. All staff we encounter in hotel were pleasant and helpful. Room was big and comfortable and very reasonable. Although we didn’t take advantage of all that is offered at the property it is extensive. Wish we could have been there when the JCTwas open. Only disappointing thing was service at breakfast slow, not very pleasant she must have had a tough night. Shouldn’t have to ask where is the toast and side of bacon and not servers fault but eggs were over cooked and my wife’s waffle not hot enough to melt the butter. So just go eat somewhere else and you will be pleased with the hotel.
We were in the area for a family wedding and decided to spend two nights at The Essex. I can’t think of enough nice things to say about our stay. From the moment we walked into the lobby we knew we were in for something special. We were greeted warmly and checked in quickly. We stayed in a Culinary King, thus named based on the culinary theme of the hotel. The room was large and comfortable with all of the necessary amenities and a view of one of the many gardens. We had a few hours to relax and took a tour of the property. There is an indoor lap pool as well as and outdoor pool for more casual sun bathing and playful frolicking. There are paths throughout leading to a gazebo as well as floral and veggie gardens. The landscaping is beautiful. A real treat to the senses. We dined at the pub in the hotel and loved the ambiance as well as the food. Prices were reasonable. I would highly recommend the Essex if you ever need a place to stay. It’s only 20 minutes away from Maquam Barn and Winery, a popular place for weddings.…
Perfect location and facilities for quick stop on the way to the Maine coast. Appreciated the on site spa, pool and hot tub. Staff friendly and helpful and short distance to downtown Burlington. Decor on theme with the culinary focus and appreciated the local bottled water in the room.
The room was adequate but the bed was too soft and pillows were either too soft or very hard. That made back and neck stiff and hardly got good restful sleep. Also front desk clerk was that nice to greet but more mechanical and not informative about the area.
This place always amazes me. So relaxing and they have everything you need to unwind and leave your worries at the door. Great food, beautiful grounds and landscaping and a fantastic spa. Everything was spotless, too. Can’t wait to go back again.
The people were exceptionally nice at the hotel. I don’t think I would return for the following reasons. We had a mini suite and the bathroom was dated. The jacuzzi tub was noisy and the shower was very small. It seemed old. Also they were working on the indoor pool and the better restaurant was closed for the two days we were there. The staff definitely made the difference cause everyone was such a pleasure to be around in lieu of the facility seeming like it needed to be updated.
