Elegant but informal, built in 1918 and carefully restored, Squire House is a luxurious B&B on eleven private acres in a classic Vermont village. With only three guest rooms, Squire House is never crowded or commercial. Each guest room has a modern private bathroom, nine-foot ceilings, large windows and central air conditioning. There are five wood-burning fireplaces. Full three-course breakfasts are served on English china in our paneled dining room.

Detailed Reviews

We’ve been visiting Roger and Gay Squire at the Squire House for years, and we can’t imagine staying anyplace else in Vermont! Roger and Gay are consummate hosts, making guests feel right at home from the moment they step over the threshold; Gay’s country breakfasts are legendary, from the house-made granola to pancakes to French toast, and the common rooms are a wonderful place to hang out and chat, read, or play the old Chickering grand piano. Guest rooms are spacious, tastefully furnished, and comfortable, with great mattresses and pillows and private baths. It is the perfect country inn, probably the best we’ve ever stayed in over the last 35 years of visiting Vermont.

My wife and I spent one night at the Squire House last Friday. We were looking for a quiet refuge prior to attending a memorial service for an old friend. Let me echo other positive reviews and say there's a part of me that would like to keep Squire House a secret, lest fame limit access for those in the know. Truly Roger and Gay Squire have mastered the fine art of a fully imagined second career. They are as gracious as their home.
In practical terms let me say that the B&B is easy to find within a mile or so of Dorset Village, just outside of Manchester, Vermont. Guests have access to three bedrooms on the second floor. Each one is a generous size with plenty of room to hang clothing and relax between outings.
Kathryn and I agree certainly with the high praise for the gourmet breakfast, but I'd also call out details like turned down bedding, cool drinks when we arrived (on a hot day), chocolate butter crunch on the night stand, branded soaps and pens, along with wonderfully full bath towels.
Couple of final notations:
The lighting of the entrance signage is hugely helpful to strangers navigating after dark on rural roads.
If you are considering a visit and still have questions after using the web site, I found Gay to be very responsive by phone.
This country B&B is a rare gem.

Gay and Roger Squire have lovingly restored and maintain this historic and idyllic home which we were fortunate to stay at while at the Manchester Music Festival.
The breakfast of Crème Brûlée French Toast, homemade granola and roasted peaches was spectacular. Thank-you, Gay for sharing your recipe for the French Toast, which will now be our family “go-to” recipe!!!
Every detail at Squire House is infused with care and beauty! A very singular and unforgettable stay!

It's hard to fully capture how beautiful this B&B is -- the setting, the home, the breakfasts, and, best of all, the wonderful hosts, Gay and Roger. No other B&B, anywhere, has ever, nor will ever match this one, in my humble opinion. The home sits back from the road in an idyllic, tranquil setting. It has been lovingly restored and exquisitely decorated. Our room was gorgeous, immaculate, cozy, quiet, and incredibly comfortable. We were spoiled over 6 days with a different gourmet breakfast each morning and we delighted in the warm and friendly conversations with Roger and Gay. We enjoyed a lot of laughter and appreciated their helpful suggestions on places to visit locally. Our visit couldn't have been more perfect. Gracious, welcoming, elegant, luxurious, peaceful...picture-postcard perfect.

Squire House has been impeccably restored after a period of neglect. Gay and Roger Squire have brought together comfortable furniture, interesting decor, and handsome interior decoration. The surrounding landscape includes deciduous forest, open lawns with a few moss-covered large rocks poking through, and scattered benches offering a choice of places to sit and admire the landscape. Everything needed for a comfortable stay has been thoughtfully assembled and the Squires are knowledgeable about the amenities and attractions of the village of Dorset and the nearby more commercial hub at Manchester.

We just spent two wonderful nights at Squire House in what was our first visit but certainly won’t be our last. Our enjoyment of the comfortable accommodations in this beautifully restored and maintained property was further enhanced by the hospitality of its owners, Gay and Roger Squire. Their attention to every detail and particularly to the over-the-top breakfast made this more than memorable and already a highlight of our first post-COVID summer. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

We spent a delightful weekend at Squire House. Everything was perfect. The decor was beautiful, the breakfasts were delicious, our hosts, Gay and Roger, were welcoming and offered suggestions of things to do in the area, and the grounds were lovely. Our room had a fireplace so we were able to relax in front of the fire after a busy day. Although the weather did not really cooperate we found plenty of things to do from the Southern Vermont Arts Center, to the Vermont Country Store and the Northshire Bookstore. We highly recommend Squire House as a wonderful getaway any season of the year.

Our stay at The Squire House was delightful. Super comfortable bedding and really delicious breakfast started the day off. So much food we didn't need to eat lunch! Sadly we missed the BumpCake.
Roger and Gay are superb innkeepers. We were there for a very rainy long weekend and they made sure we were able to enjoy it anyway.

The Squire House is a beautiful place to stay. The peace and quiet of the nature surrounding the house is the perfect place to get away from city life. I would highly recommend the Squire House for anyone who is looking to stay in Dorset!
