Detailed Reviews
I didn't think it could get this good but it did! We spent a night here before crossing the border to Canada. I looked ahead and knew they had a restaurant but didn't know they had such a great chef (Fritz) who puts out some really, really excellent Austrian meals. Dinner was excellent as was breakfast. They also have a full bar. Our room (#3) was very nice though the bathroom was a bit tight. No TV in the rooms and maybe that's a good thing as this is a house and I would not want to listen to someone's TV blasting into the night. We also were lucky to be here at Christmas time and so we got to see all of Paula's great Christmas decorations. She does a beautiful job.

If you, like we, value unique experiences over the corporate regulars, you need to put the Derby Line Village Inn in your travel plans. Each room is unique in its decor and appointments. You will discover an amazing aesthetic and scrupulous attention to detail and cleanliness. Our bed was so comfortable. I haven't slept that late in years. Fritz and Paula are wonderful hosts. Breakfast was amazing. Food is fresh and hot and everything is prepared from scratch on the premises. Staying at the inn is a treat not to be missed.

Lovely older Inn with a restaurant and bar. The entire Inn was just beautiful. Gleaming hardwood floors throughout, natural woodwork, large comfortable bedrooms. There are no TVs in the rooms but there is one at the bar. The Bavarian owner and his wife are gracious hosts and he is also a great chef. Make a reservation for dinner because many of the locals dine there regularly especially on weekends. Breakfast is included in their very reasonable room charge and it's wonderful. This Inn is in northern Vermont and an entrance to Canada is just down the main street and also an entrance/exit for I 91 . I really enjoyed my stay and highly recommend it.

We had the pleasure of celebrating the 98th birthday of a Dad/Grandfather at the Villagoe Inn. Everything was fantastic. There were 8 of us and everyone enjoyed their meals. We were given a private room so we could enjoy each other's company without disturbing others. The Inn is absolutely beautiful. Fritz even serenaded Gramps by playing Happy Birthday on the accordion. On the way out, I noticed a beautiful display of Hummels. I wish I had stopped to look at them. I have a collection and find them beautiful. Thank you to everyone at the Derby Line Village Inn and I would highly recommend it!

Our stay at the Derby Line Village Inn was at the recommendation of a dear friend that was born, and raised in Derby, and who still has retired parents in the town.
We stayed for two nights, with dinner on the Saturday. Our stay, and dinner was beyond phenomenal! Fritz, Paula, and the Inn team made our trip a vacation to remember! Fritz is an awesome chef, a great person to talk to, and has a dinner menu that will not disappoint!! Michelle and Fritz also provide a first class breakfast for their lodging guests.

Wonderful welcome on arrival. Rooms are comfy and fireplaces great during the snowstorm. Paula and Fritz are perfect hosts. Dinner in front of wood burning fireplace was romantic and exceptional. We especially loved the PEI mussels and schnitzel.
Breakfast was included with room cost. We adored the homemade sausages and eggs cooked to order.
We’ll definitely return.

Another 5 Star meal!! We have been going here every year during our VT vacation for more than a decade. The food never fails to impress whether we get the same thing or something new. The service is always great. Even if they are busy and understaffed and thus it takes longer, you still feel like they are taking care of you. From the bread and flavored butters all the way through to the amazing desserts, everything is delicious!!!! The beer and wine selection is top notch. And they are always willing to go off menu to the extent possible. We absolutely love this place and never miss it. It is so hard to pick just a few of our favorites, but we LOVE the potato pancakes, schnitzel, Octoberfrst platter, the red cabbage side dish, the apple strudel and chocolate mousse (again, just to name a few).

We stayed here on our way to Quebec City. The inn is very quaint and has a lot of history. The woodwork is beautiful. Our two rooms were well appointed and each had a very comfortable king size bed.
We happened to be there on a Thursday for prime rib night. One of us did get it and it was fantastic! The other three ordered entrees with an Austrian flair. The schnitzel and red cabbage complimented each dish very well. Our entrees were cooked to perfection. The desserts were homemade and amazing. Fritz came in to the dining room and played “Edelweiss” on his accordion to a couple celebrating their wedding anniversary. It was truly an enchanting evening!
The following morning, we came downstairs to a wonderful breakfast of the fluffiest scrambled eggs, sausages, potatoes, incredible pastries and delicious coffee. Fritz even demonstrated how he gets his eggs so fluffy! We watched a live video of his homeland, Austria and had a nice chat.
We left for Quebec City, but all of us agreed after our trip, that our food at The Derby Line Village Inn was the best we had on our vacation! Thank you Fritz and Paula for giving us a truly memorable experience. We will definitely return!

I have eaten at this restaurant at least 20 times and I have always had a great meal. However, recently I have been impressed with an ever increasing range of Specials on their expansive menu that must be noted as they showcase the abilities of the very exciting kitchen staff. For me it is that these range from beginning to end and as they are specials they may not be on there when you visit. Of special note since the New Year: Hungarian Goulash Soup, the Spatzle one evening had the most lovely mushroom cream sauce, and finally a coq au vin with a red wine sauce was perfection! There are Austrian desserts that rival my grandmothers and a couple that bested hers. Of particular note: the Apple Strudel, the Chocolate Mocha Mousse and the Chocolate Torte. Chef has an impressive kitchen. He has an incredible and well trained staff of professionals, THE BEST IN THE REGION!
The Derby Line Village Inn in an Austrian/Vermont treasure tucked away in the Hills of Northern Vermont where the Sounds of Music may be heard from warm and wonderful owners Chef Fritz and Paula. I am confident that the rooms are as perfect from these gracious and warm hosts.

we had dinner and brunch at the restaurant recently and it was a nice experience.
good food, good service, charming atmosphere.
no complaints,
we are in a rural area and we do not have a lot of restaurant in our area.
so it was nice to learn that this Inn also has a restaurant thanks to a friend's recommendation.
Now one little comment I would like to add: re MashuMashu's comment which received a (in my view) rather harsh reaction from the owner, Gottfried, basically saying if there is anything about his Inn that displeased the guest, the guest should just go elsewhere.
I can understand that Gottfried is proud of the family's inn and they have obviously worked hard to establish this business.
But this reaction is a bit too harsh and Germanic in my view. Instead of taking immediate offence, i would see it from another angle. MashuMashu actually gave your inn a fair albeit critcal review. Yes, it is his perspective, as is any guest's review. Please take it as an opportunity to improve. If reviews are all good then they are worthless/ we (guests) need to hear the good and the bad stuff and then decide. MashuMashu seems to overall have liked his experience, so telling him to go elsewhere next time seems out of line to me.
we will never stay at the inn because we live close by, but we did notice that the building,
despite all its charm and the beautiful woodwork and all, may need some retouching soon. As the old saying goes, a stitch in time saves nine.
un peu d'amour for the building and a bit of amour from your northern neighbours.
