Susan, the innkeeper, greeted us at the door and welcomed us to her inn. She showed us around the main floor and showed us to our room. The inn is charming and in a beautiful setting. The common areas are inviting and gave us the overall feeling of being at home and the homemade cookies and hot apple cider were appreciated. We were on the second floor in a room at the end of the hallway. Our room was large with a king size bed and windows on 3 sides. There is also a fireplace and a large bathroom with a 2-sink vanity. Appetizers are served before dinner as well as wine/beer in one of the living areas with a large fireplace, very nice on the cold/wet evening we were there. Our dinner was excellent and after dinner Susan sat down with us to share the history of the inn and some amusing personal anecdotes while we were enjoying our dessert. Then she got down to business and helped with planning hikes/activities for the next day. Susan is an awesome innkeeper, both attentive and sweet.

This review is long overdue. My husband and I stayed here in June 2018 for two nights. Susan is the most exceptional host. Her attention to detail is extraordinary. Every meal so delicious. Beautiful homemade cookies, fruit and coffee were available after a weary days hike. Canapés before dinner around the fire was divine. The Fox Creek in is so picturesque. The hiking spectacular. Susan went above and beyond any expectations we may have had to make our stay perfect. I would return in a heartbeat if we didn’t live so far away (Australia) but do hope and dream to return one day. Thank you Susan.

We booked a hiking trip with Vermont County Inns. We stayed at a different Inn each night, for five nights. It was perfect! Great Inns, amazing food, outstanding service, lovely inn-keepers, and energizing hikes. We loved it. Susan Smart, the Inn-keeper at the Fox Creek Inn was one of the kindest people we met during our trip. She is lovely. And she is also quite the cook! GREAT room, very nice porch with a lovely view of the woods and the creek. It was wonderful.

Staying at the Fox Creek Inn was like coming home to mom!  Susan the Inn Keeper greeted us at the door with a big warm smile, welcomed us in and showed us to our room while introducing us to everything the Inn had to offer.  The Inn is charming and just what you might expect from a mountain side retreat with special touches throughout, including homemade cookies, fresh coffee, plush robes hanging quietly for you in the closets and late night antacids patiently waiting on a plate like Santa's cookies before bed.  We enjoyed great conversation and even met and shared worldy stories with some pretty hip retired neighbors who graciously invited us to see their farm.  The accommodations we're great, the food was delicious and Susan was a very caring and attentive host.  We highly recommend staying at the Fox Creek Inn. I've only ever written one other review in my entire life, but feel like I need to write about this horrible experience. I got married in January very close to the Fox Creek Inn and booked the Fox Creek Inn as another option for my guests to stay. I reserved the inn over a year in advance and sent a check to Susan (the innkeeper) so she was guaranteed every room would be booked or I would ultimately be charged. I will tell a few stories/exchanges that took place - all were AWFUL and shocking considering this is the hospitality industry. Every communication was done over email, so I'm happy to upload the exact email exchange if necessary. Problem 1 - The inn's cancellation policy was a full refund up to 2 weeks in advance with a $25 charge to cover the credit card fee (cc fee is not $25, but I wasn't going to go there). To try and avoid this unnecessary charge for our wedding guests, I asked Susan if she would mind taking the cc info of our wedding guests and hold off processing the charge until 2 weeks before so that in the event people had to cancel they could avoid the $25 fee. I said "any chance you can modify that policy? Ultimately you'll get the same pay, it's just easier". I didn't think I was asking something over the top considering my check that I had already sent to her and the signed contract that guaranteed the entire inn would be covered. Not only did she say NO, she was SO RUDE. She responded and I'm quoting her "it's unfortunate that you think I lack the necessary knowledge/experience of running an inn. In your email of Feb 11th, you referred to 'great reviews' I've gotten. I stand by the practices that have been in effect since owning Fox Creek Inn. In your words 'it's just easier'. Needless to say, I was shocked. I wish this was the only bad experience with Susan, but it only got worse. Problem 2 - I had told her repeatedly that the entire inn would be booked, but we were trying to get as many people on the wedding site's grounds as possible so were waiting until as close to the wedding date as we could before having ppl book (especially b/c she was so inflexible w/ the $25 fee). Despite the contract saying my check would be held until 1 week before the wedding until it was cashed, and me telling her all the rooms would be fully booked but we were intentionally waiting to see if there were more openings at our wedding site's location, she went ahead and cashed the check 2 months in advance. Problem 3 - One of my guests who has a baby called to book and she told him she had a no kid policy. I didn't realize this when booking but it does say it on her website. My guest said she was rude to him on the phone and I figured it couldn't hurt to ask if there was ANY way she could make an exception to this rule considering the entire inn was going to be occupied with our guests (given my experience up to that date and her overwhelming hostile way and unwillingness to work with me, I was needless to say not super hopeful). My email to her: "Hi Susan, I heard you have a no kids policy. Is there any way you could modify this for the weekend we're renting out the inn, as it will be all our guests? Thanks a lot!" Her response: "It is the inn policy (clearly stated on the website) that Fox Creek Inn is not appropriate for children under the age of 12. Also, the rooms can ONLY (bolded and underlined) have 2 people sleeping in them. If I think guests have brought blowup mattresses etc., they will be asked to leave" ....a simple 'I'm sorry I cannot make an exception' would have been suffice! Not sure at what point I gave her the idea that we were throwing a frat party. She was SO UNBELIEVABLY SHARP AND RUDE AND WE WERE PAYING HER! There were more issues than those above, but in an effort to keep this short of a novel I'll stop here. The experience was just AWFUL. Something that should have been easy especially b/c Susan had no downside as the entire inn was guaranteed, was combative and extremely stressful. I have no comments about the inn itself just the owner. I do not support this business and I wouldn't recommend working w/ Susan in any capacity to anyone.

Response from foxcreekinn, Owner at Fox Creek Inn

Taryn- I’m sorry you didn’t want to adhere to the terms of the contract you agreed to and signed. If your guests were offended that I gave them a discounted rate on nights that were not included in the contract, they should have told me and I could have charged them the full amount. Certain regulations (only two person occupancy per room) are not set by me but rather by the fire marshall. I stand by my outstanding reviews from previous guests as well as the comments YOUR guests left in the guestbook at Fox Creek Inn: “Thank you so much for making our short visit such a pleasure.” “We had a wonderful time. Thank you so much for everything you did for us.” “Thank you so much for your hospitality. We had a wonderful time. The food was delicious!” Sincerely, Susan Smart, Innkeeper
