My fiancé surprised me with a getaway to Vermont for after the winter holidays . This part of Vermont is close to his heart from traveling as a child with his family to ski Okemo . We stayed at the pointe hotel which is the sister propriety to the Castle , which my review is about . The stay at the hotel was ok, staff was pleasant enough and due to the coronavirus pandemic it was very peaceful and quiet as I can imagine a normal ski season is not as this propriety has lots to offer to the winter enthusiasts. One of the evenings we decided to walk up and see the Castle and dine there as well as we were looking for a nice upscale dinner with some romance and intimacy . We made the reservation and headed up . When we entered the building, we immediately felt like we stepped back in time in the lands of fairytales. The period furnished lobby, the fireplaces and the lighting is exquisite. That moment we knew this is what we were hoping to get and even more . Shortly after we met Carmen. She sat us at a wonderful table tucked in a corner by a cozy fireplace. We immediately fell in love with the place. Carmen introduced us to our server, Kelly and the whole dining experience was a wow. From their friendliness , professionalism and hospitality to the scrumptious food, craft cocktails and sublime atmosphere, everything was perfect . Carmen taught us a lot about the propriety and the castle history, as we both are history enthusiasts. We didn’t have any unanswered questions and even were given a great tour . Her passion and love for the building shines bright through her words . We also learned from her about an award the Castle won just recently from historic hotels of America for excellence and now we know first hand, why . We are looking forward to visit this property again in all seasons to experience the beauty the area and the castle itself have to offer . Thank you so much and kudos to you, castle staff for all you do and the efforts you make to keep us safe and offer us some sort of normality and serenity during this difficult times. We appreciate you . Carmen, you are wonderful. Kelly, thank you for all you do and for the permanent smile and “feel good “ and friendliness you inspire.…
Our family was so excited to take a trip during our kids winter break. We wanted to be responsible so we followed COVID rules and stayed here in state. We understood that things would be different because of COVID. Here is our experience. Upon arrival I was told dinner was included two of the three nights rather than the three we were told upon making a reservation. The person at the desk- rather than just telling me no worries go to your room I will figure it out- made me wait an unreasonable amount of time while my family was in the car in the cold. I told her I would just send her the email that I received from them which said the same- which she had but didn't bother to look up- when I got into the room. We got into the room and I couldn't send the email as the WIFI didn't work. I sent it from my phone. The "castle" is not so much a castle as a stone house which is pretty from the outside and underwhelming from the inside. It overlooks a busy road which you can hear. It is not in a pastoral wooded setting. Our room was tired looking. We didn't have a warm blanket. The books in the book shelf were fake. We called to ask if there was a sitting area- like the one we saw on the web site- where we can sit and play a game together. No luck, the only sitting area was closed due to COVID (not sure why they can't let one party use it at a time). So we were stuck in our rooms at the hotel. Anyway we were so looking forward to a gourmet dinner. Upon seating down the server demanded our dinner tickets immediately which we found not so classy. Portions were enormous and the quality of the food was certainly not gourmet. I would call it average at best. One of the servers wore her mask just over her mouth not nose and kept leaving the dining room to take her mask off and look at her phone. The desserts were Sodexo quality- not homemade. The next day we were looking for things to do but no one is actually at the "Castle" to talk to. So we found some fun activities and enjoyed our day. We discovered our cable wasn't working so I called the front desk and the person who answered literally sighed as she said how can I help you- like in a dramatic way showing she had no interest in helping We returned to dinner as it was included in our rate. We had read in the material about the hotel in our room that the chef accommodates special diets. Also when I called to make the reservation the person on the phone said there is only one vegetarian dish (our kids are vegetarian) and that the chef can surely put something together for them. When I asked our server if they could make her pasta, or a grilled cheese, or something besides the one vegetarian dish (which our kids didn't like) the server asked the chef and came back and said no. OK..... Then our courses were served not separately like they should be but together. Our server kept forgetting to bring us things we asked for. We had to remind her. They didn't have the dessert we wanted so we asked if they had a substitute. She said no. The table next to us was offered a substitute. It was like a comedy of errors. We paid to stay three nights but we left after two. In short, this property needs lessons on hospitality. It is like it is run by no one. The staff seemed clueless, and maybe the chef previously referenced on this page "Fonz" left. But really. Over $2000 down the drain. Save your money and go elsewhere.…
We wanted to have a staycation with a friend and keep the "green in Vt". So we got a deal with this hotel and so glad we stayed in vt and at this hotel. They did a great job with the safety of the guest during our pandemic. We used the hot tub and that was nice and did the spa and had a massage which was amazing. Will comeback again
My husband and I just returned from a four day trip. We usually visit at least three times a year. Unfortunately, COVID had other plans. We were thrilled to visit!! The staff is superb!!! They are like family members. The COVID precautions were taken very seriously. I was very pleased to see this. The food was outstanding as usual. We sure missed the tasty mussels prepared by the great chef, Fonz. This resort is catered to couples. It is very quiet. Let's keep it that way!!! We will be returning before you know it!!! You must have the mussels if you dine at the castle!!! Thank you Lisa, Fonz, Kierstin, Molly, and all the staff !!! Andy the general manager is not to be forgotten. Go enjoy the elegant dining, wonderful staff, and the beautiful grounds!!! It is such a nice feeling to see all of the familiar faces in the dining area, Paula , Heather and Cori!!! Thank you for always providing us with such wonderful memories.…
