CUSTOMER SERIVCE: I had read good things about this motel, and talked to a nice gentleman on the phone. When we arrived no one was in the small area where we were trying to check in. I called the regular phone and the cell number on the door. The cell was in the office, and ringing. I almost called the emergency numbers listed on the door, and waited at least 15 minutes. Finally a man showed up WITHOUT a mask on, came in, and proceeded to count all the money in the cash register and worry about being robbed because he had forgotten to lock up??? I found this very strange and finally had to ASK if I could check in. All this time he was not wearing a mask, and barely seemed to care I was there, although he did comply with Vt's rules regarding info for contact tracing. He told me to kick the door to my room to open it! ATMOSPHERE: We drove into the area of the motel and saw people hanging out without masks (to be fair, I'm not sure they weren't related, but there were quite a few), and I pulled the plug. I went back into the office, said keep the money, but assumed I would be refunded. Nope. I WOULD NOT recommend this place during a pandemic, especially when they charge over $100 per night.

We have stayed several times and usually found their accommodations just fine. This time our room smelled off and the carpets were very stained. The outside light was very bright and kept me awake most of the night. A sound sleeper would probably not mind. Very hard to get fresh air into the room. An inexpensive stay.

We stayed one night at the Ethan Allen Motel as we were passing through Vermont. We chose it for reasons of road weariness and for the benefit of parking right outside of our room. We looked at 3 different rooms before selecting one. The first one, even though touted as a non-smoking room, had definitely been smoked in. The second room we looked at was better but I was turned off of the kitchen units in the rooms and it smelled very strongly of cleaning product. The third room, at a $10 price increase, had no kitchen and two beds. The motel is very tired and needs to be updated and does have a musty smell. Our room was large and had a fridge and air conditioner that worked well. There were many hairs in the bathroom (stuck to the wall and in the tub) that belonged to the previous occupants. Towels smelled faintly of cigarette smoke. Swimming pool was clean and a good place to chill on a warm day.

Room was clean and staff serous, but polite and more than helpful. I think that they may have had a problem in the past and I have heard people say they seem stern, but I'm all for it, good to know they are keeping an eye on things. Very quaint and near just about everything including great restaurants, the airport, UMall, UVM , downtown Burlington and surrounding areas. Great for leaf peepers!

After reading somewhat mixed reviews, but not terrible, I booked a room here to avoid high costs of the chains. First even after running the water for a long time there was no hot water for a shower this morning...and there were only 4 to 5 other cars in the lot. If there had been hot water, the shower only delivered a dribble. I expected bare bones, but peeling paint, badly stained carpet, old uncomfortable bed, stained chairs and funny smell in the room. . 7:30 and no one in the office and no coffee. TV was OK, linens clean and location good. Not enough to make up for the bad.
