This B&B has verandas for sitting amidst well-maintained grounds and gardens, dating since 1909. Beautifully furnished and comfortable. The owner welcomes guests to explore and relax and simply enjoy. Very pleasant.

My wife and I were visiting a local company in Middlebury and found the Lilac Inn on Trip Advisor. During our search we found that all of the rooms in Middlebury's Inns were already reserved by families for students attending the first week of the Middlebury College fall term. What a serendipitous event! We feel so fortunate to have been... More

Absolutely lovely, both the inn and its grounds. Doug, the proprietor, is friendly, low-key and very knowledgeable about the area. The style of the rooms is historic/Victorian, but with modern efficiency -- everything works and is clean and bright. The room was bright and a good size too. Excellent breakfast.

Thank you for being our guests and your comments. When the Lilac Inn was built in 1909 as a summer mansion, known as “The Arches”, no expense was spared. Even the latest technology of the day, telephones, were installed in every guest room. We have tried to preserve the historic character of the home with modern conveniences, such as, Wi-Fi... More

I went to attend a bridal shower being hosted at the Lilac. However, I opted to stay and enjoy the Inn and town. Shelly and Doug are wonderful and accommodating. The bed was so comfortable, I melted into it and slept beautifully. It was quiet and peaceful. The breakfast was delicious, much more than expected. Susan's hospitality and service went... More

Thank you for being our guests and for your kind comments. At the Lilac Inn, we love any excuse to have a party! This home was built for parties, and as Shelly says, “If these walls could talk when a party is going on, this house is very happy”! We are glad that you enjoyed our breakfast and Susan loves... We stayed here for a friend's wedding in town, and it was beautiful! The rooms have a very historic, old world charm without being stuffy and gross. The staff was very friendly and the rooms are large and have awesome furniture. Nice place to stay when in Vermont!

Thank you for being our guests and for attending a wedding at the Lilac Inn. This summer mansion was built in a different era, but it was designed with guest comfort in mind, as well as, large common areas for special celebrations. We have tried to keep that charm while updating the inn with modern conveniences. We look forward to... More

I was part of the AMC (Appalachian Mountain Club) ski group that stayed at Lilac Inn over President's Day weekend. Lilac Inn is superb. Beautiful place, incredibly comfortable and cozy, great food, and friendly people who do everything to make you feel at home. Just what you idealize as a weekend retreat in New England!.

It was so wonderful to have our fourth AMC (Appalachian Mountain Club) ski group stay with us. It was a tough winter in Vermont, with limited snowfall, and mild temperatures except for the weekend you were with us. Despite the frigid conditions, you were such a warm and gregarious group that no one complained a wink. We love having groups... More

Doug and Shelly are totally devoted to their beloved Lilac Inn. The rooms are spacious and impeccably furnished. The common areas are bedecked with an amazing assortment of antiques and amusements. Breakfasts and dinners are delicious and generous. On the coldest weekend of 2016 the fireplaces comfortably warmed the library and bar, and the excellent brews and vintages kept us... More

Thank you for being with us on the coldest weekend of the winter. We love keeping a roaring fire going, in fact, one of the reasons we purchased the Lilac Inn, is that is has six working fireplaces, including three guest rooms. Fortunately this winter was not nearly as brutal as last years and we are on track for an... More

The innkeepers were exceptionally friendly and attentive to our needs. Their passion for serving and their attention to detail was evident throughout the entire experience. Our room was very comfortable and clean. The breakfast was phenomenal. By the end of our time at the Lilac Inn, we felt like we had found family! We heartily recommend this B&B.
