Just returned from a guys trip to ski Snowbird and Alta. First time staying at the Cliff Lodge.

The hotel was updated within the past few years and is pretty swanky compared to other Snowbird lodging options. Arrived early from my flight and the room was ready. My room had two queen beds and was comfortable. The shower though did not drain well, when done using it would have a couple inches of scuzzy water in it. After a while it almost seemed as if sand was coming up? There was no housekeeping during the stay so that tub was a little sketchy by day 5 and really not what is expected of a room that costs $800/night.

I was on floor 3, same as the outdoor pool and hot tubs, highly convenient. The pool was nice and warm which made it a good option when the hot tubs were full. Only 2 of the 3 hot tubs were in operation for some reason. Was told there is a nicer pool/hot tub facility on the roof but you need to pay $35 to use it as part of the spa.

Ski lockers were easy and convenient, quick work to gear up and ski down to the tram. Easy to get back with the lift that services the Cliff.

Be prepared for the elevators. They have a weird touch screen control panel system I have never seen before. Was a common point of conversation with fellow guests about how confusing it was to use.

The 71 restaurant was good, hamburgers in particular are awesome. Found the casual Atrium breakfast place underwhelming, with my microwaved burrito.

Since Snowbird has so few lodging options this is about as good as you will find there so it is the top dog. If it was located in Park City or another ski resort, it would be mid range. Expensive and over priced for what you get, but I would go back.

Have stayed at this resort probably 15-20 times, at least, over the last 25 years. I really do enjoy staying here, the rooms are good and private, most have hot tubs on at least one balcony in a 1 bedroom, or Kitchen Studio, quiet and relaxing. However, a couple of the bellman/valet guys have been here at least 10, if not 15-20 years, and they are just crouchety, bordering on grumpy old men type attitude as it caused them issues to answer questions, be addressed, etc. I did use the valet as I always do, but that didn't matter, and I am always kind even when they aren't, and I ALWAYS tip the valet... but gosh, they either need some happiness in their life, or they need to fake it when they are at work. I worry about suggesting people even go there anymore because while I know from experience that the Cliff Club/Lodge are worth it, you do have to deal with the valet guys every time you come and go, and who wants to have to deal with rudeness. I will, and will continue, just not sure I would recommend to any of my friends or relatives. Wish they could move those guys somewhere else and get some friendly people who want to be of help and serve the guests to greet you as you first come in.

Came for a family staycation at the beginning of the week and we had the place to ourselves. We were very impressed by the hotel, it looks austere on the outside but inside has been remodeled and is very modern and spacious with tons of seating areas and places to explore outside of your room.

Felt very safe with their diligent Covid protocols: masks required everywhere on the grounds inside and outside, except while in guest rooms, swimming, or eating; sanitizer in every elevator and every common space; signage everywhere reminding of the safety measures; even adjusted the elevator retrieval systems so you don’t really ever have to share an elevator with others.

We loved our room, a deluxe king bedroom with floor to ceiling windows and about 600sq ft of space, foldout couch bed, table with chairs, desk, nice bathroom, mini fridge (but no microwave, take note). Comfortable beds and pillows. Air worked fine but had some strange very loud whistling sounds on the second day that came and went.

The 3rd floor pool was beautiful and very warm (great for little kids!), and always plenty of fresh towels. Swam every day. Hardly anyone there at all but there are three hot tubs if it gets busy (one was out of order). They graciously accommodated a late checkout so we could enjoy the pool on the last day too.

We enjoyed eating at the many restaurants at the hotel and at Snowbird Center, just a short walk outside and over the bridge. SeventyOne had good flatbreads, The Forklift had a great Cobb salad and burgers, easy breakfast options at The Atrium. Lots of restaurants closed though (including the fine-dining Aerie on the top floor) so check website for details. We found all websites to be accurate and up to date. Only wish they had a coffee option before Atrium opened at 7am - my husband is an early riser and waiting so long for the first cup is a challenge 🤪.

Took advantage of the Dine and Stay package offered on their website which offered a $50 dining credit each day (about a 50% discount) and really loved that.

This was a perfect place for our family staycation and we will be back!

We spent six nights at The Cliff. Aside from its great location for easy access to the slopes we had several concerns during our stay. First, most of the staff are not friendly. From check-in to spa to son phone experiences to ask questions. The bell hops were good but the one who brought our bags to the room knew nothing about the hotel like where the ice machines or washing machines are located. We tried to order room service. No one answers the phone and trying to do it online did not allow you to order what you wanted. For example you could only get a banana if you bought the whole cereal package for like 18 dollars. I asked the reception to have the manager reach out to me to discuss. I was told the message would be relayed. I never got a call. We gave up on it. The breakfast buffet hostess was practically non-verbal and never a smile, good morning, etc.The mattresses were memory foam and comfortable enough but the sheets were way undersized for the depth of the mattress. Every morning we would wake up with the corners popped loose and pillow on a bare mattress. The sheet was also ripped at the corner from being mis-sized for the mattress and every time we tried to pull back around the corner of the mattress it ripped more. It stay that way throughout our stay. For the price we paid you would expect to have friendly, knowledgeable, and responsive helpful staff. A positive and pleasant staff culture there does not exist. And for the money paid you would think they would buy bed linens that fit the bed!

I’ll start with the good. You are at Snowbird which is an amazing ski area. So location is what you are paying for. You are not paying for a relaxing or luxurious stay, despite what the price might lead you to believe.

What’s not relaxing is the fact that the doors between adjoining rooms are not soundproofed so the screaming children next door will almost be right there with you in your room. What’s also not relaxing is waking up at 4am from the headlights of a snowplow outside your room, because the blackout curtains don’t go all the way to the end of the windows. That snowplow will continue to grind outside your window for the next 25 minutes and you may not fall back to sleep because the room is at a constant 66 degrees. But guess what - if you want coffee before the Atrium opens at 7, you better hope your dinky Keurig wasn’t broken like ours was, and forget about even a creamer because there won’t be one. For $600+ an night I would expected the bare minimum of a cotton ball or qtip in the bathroom. It’s more no-frills than a Holiday Inn. The lights in the bathroom have one option—on or off. So it’s either bright glaring lights while you sleep or fumbling in the dark to find the bathroom. The desk staff appears to be made up of young inexperienced kids who have no idea about anything so your complaints will be met by dull stares. You will be told they probably don’t have another room, even though almost ever door on your floor (except with with the screaming kids of course) remains sealed with their “Covid cleaned” sticker that has not been broken as the room awaits a new guest.

We chose the Cliff Lodge because it seemed like the most recently renovated, and you can see areas they put money into - like the front desk and arrival lobby. Clearly whoever designed those areas did not work on the rooms, which feel cheap and depressing in comparison. The entire time we stayed there someone’s room service trays sat outside their room piled up in the hallway. The fact that the dirty dishes were still there when we left is about all you need to know about the level of service at the Cliff Lodge.

I have never encountered such appalling treatment in the hospitality industry. My colleague and I arrived at The Cliff Lodge for a cardiovascular conference, expecting a smooth and professional experience. Instead, we were met with deception, disrespect, and outright humiliation.

Upon check-in, the front desk employee, Rachel, casually asked if we would be fine staying on the spa floor. Not being particularly picky, I said we had no issue with it. She then handed us the usual paperwork to sign, and we proceeded with check-in—nothing was mentioned about any additional charges or “upgrades.”

However, before checkout, we were blindsided with the shocking news that we had been “upgraded” and would now be charged for it. This was the first time we were even hearing about an upgrade. I immediately explained that we never requested or agreed to any upgrade. In fact, being placed on a spa floor with extra foot traffic hardly felt like an upgrade—it was more of a downgrade.

I requested to speak with a manager, only to have my concerns dismissed outright. They refused to listen, and at one point, they even hung up the phone on me—an unthinkable level of unprofessionalism.

The next morning, I received a call from the manager, Carolina, who took things from bad to worse. Instead of addressing the clear mistake, she outright accused us of lying and verbally abusing her staff. She condescendingly stated that she would trust her employees over us and insisted that they could not possibly have made an error. I was in complete disbelief—never in my years of traveling have I been treated with such disrespect.

To prove our innocence, I even suggested that she check the security cameras, which would have clearly shown that we never requested an upgrade and that we never acted inappropriately toward her staff. She refused to even consider it. It was clear she had no interest in the truth—only in defending her employees, no matter how unfairly we were being treated.

For the record, we never once used inappropriate language toward any employee, we never requested an upgrade, and we were never informed of any extra charge at check-in. Yet, we were not only forced to pay for something we didn’t ask for, but we were also insulted and disrespected in the process.

This was, without a doubt, the most unprofessional and humiliating experience I’ve ever had at a hotel. I would strongly caution anyone considering a stay at The Cliff Lodge—if this is how they treat their guests, I can only imagine how little they value integrity and customer service.

I emailed corporate but still did not hear from them.

This hotel is an absolute disaster when it comes to customer service. Hidden fees, unprofessional staff, and a management team that treats guests with aggression instead of hospitality.

At check-in, my colleague and I were given an upgrade, but the manager failed to inform us about additional charges. When we later discovered the unexpected fee and tried to clarify the situation, the manager was rude, unprofessional, and even accused us of lying before hanging up on us.

The next morning, another manager woke us up with yet another aggressive call, again blaming us instead of listening to our side. Even after escalating the issue to senior management, there was zero compensation or accountability for their staff’s mistake.

Instead of a relaxing stay, we wasted an entire day arguing with different departments, being falsely accused, and dealing with the most unprofessional hotel management ever.

Stay far away from this place unless you enjoy hidden fees, terrible service, and being treated like a problem instead of a guest.

Room quality is average. Cabinet door is about to fall off but the beds are reasonably comfortable. Room is not cleaned properly - we have had brown sticky gunk on our phone for several days, and despite daily maid service, it has never been cleaned. Friends who are also staying here have a sticky bathroom door and a rotten smell that the hotel has not bothered to fix. But the real kicker is that the service is the worst I have ever experienced. We are currently snowed in (“interlodged”) and the highway is closed. The hotel is offering for us to stay one extra night at half the rack rate. The problem is that the “rack rate” is about twice as expensive as the daily rate we are paying. So basically if you are forced to stay another night because you are not allowed to leave, you are forced to pay full price for the inconvenience. But you are not allowed to ski, use the pool, or even take a walk outside because you are interlodged. You get zero hotel amenities/ services because the highway is closed and employees can’t even get to the hotel, so it is unclear what you are actually paying for. And that’s not even the worst part. The absolute worst part is that management treats you like garbage. I was on the phone with the assistant manager Caroline Roush who yelled at me, told me she was under a lot of stress, and then hung up on me. It’s mind boggling someone like this can have a job in the service industry. I would give zero stars if I could.

This place is really disappointing. It's not my first time at the Cliff Lodge but it will definitely be my last. Next time I'll be trying the Rustler or Snowpine Lodge over at Alta. The staff is discourteous, and even rude; the already expensive rooms do not include room service without an additional substantial fee. The food is lackluster and the service at the restaurant (where you're essentially stuck) is just plain bad. The rooms and the entire place are dated, the carpet is dirty, the hallways are dingy.

I nice property located in Cottonwood Canyon with beautiful views ended up disappointing. The main reason for the stay was to celebrate a birthday and get away from the city and relax on the rooftop pool. I have never been to this property and I ended up upgrading the room to a larger suite which was very nice and large but had wine stains on the carpet. I saw a sign on the elevator stating if you wanted to use the rooftop pool you had to make a reservation and pay additional fees. This caught us by surprise as we thought it was included with the stay and the charge of the resort fees. We opted to use the standard pool located on the 3rd floor. We arrived and there was a sign that said pardon the noise while work was being done on one of the hot tubs. We ended up not using the pool at all! The unbearable constant loud noise of the jackhammer was too much for what was supposed to be a relaxing stay turned out to be a bust. I wish we would have been more informed during the booking process otherwise, I would have chosen a different time to come or a different location for this particular birthday getaway.

Hi Chris, Thank you for staying with us at the Cliff Lodge! Yes, we still do have the free washers/dryers on every floor. There is a bus shuttle to Alta from Snowbird and our Cliff Valet team can also take you to Alta free of charge. The schedule for the bus to Alta is located both at our concierge desk and valet desk. You can also go online to UTA to check their schedule. Please let us know if you have any further questions. We look forward to seeing you soon!

There are beginner slopes and areas and one of the best ski/snowboard schools around, especially for kids, which is split between very small kids in Camp Snowbird-includes inside activities at Cliff Lodge--and Kinderbirds for older children. There are also really good blue runs. It is more advanced than other areas but everyone learns fast as a result.
