Older inn beside San Juan River in Mexican Hat, Utah. Nice facility with clean rooms. Restaurant has a fairly good menu with a mixture of Native American and other dishes. I had the indian taco which was huge. It's rumored that John Wayne used to stay there when filming in nearby Monument Valley before having his own place built near... More

Loved everybody and everything. The nicest people. Clean and friendly. Food was great. And service was excellent. We will return some day and write another two hundred characters to compliment this place the San Juan inn. Nice peep and nice rooms. The restaurant was great also. Loved it. The best location also as it is right on the river.

This is not a 2, 3 or 4-star motel, but it is located against a tall rock ledge right on the San Juan River...with an excellent home-cooked-food restaurant adjacent and a store/Navajo trading post inside the motel office building. I have stayed here at least ten times over a 20-year period, and the location and ambience always brings me back.... More

I am always sad when I have a repeat guest for many years, and I do not know them. Thank you for knowing it is an authentic trading post. We even still trade groceries and cash for handmade goods, just like in the old days. Also, thank you so much for enjoying the patios! My bedroom is right over the... More

Visitors to Mexican Hat have a few choices regarding where to stay. We chose the San Juan Inn because of the location - on the river, and setting - built in front of the cliff side, and the value. The rooms are comfortable, though not overly spacious. The size of the room is of little consequence as visitors will probably... More

Wow, this place was awesome. It is right between the San Juan River and beautiful red rock cliffs. What a cool spot! The shop in the lobby is interesting, the staff is wonderful, there is a good restaurant which serves a few Navajo dishes. This place is charming and has a lot of character. And even though you might think... More

Considering where the Inn is located, the rooms are in good shape and bathrooms look recently renovated. Don't expect the frills of a hotel, but rooms are adequate enough. See previous reviews re exterior/seating etc. Bad point is our room was full of flies. Don't know why but very irritating. Left bathroom light on overnight to keep them at bay.... More

I have stayed here several times these past years for field work in the area. The rooms have always been clean, staff are friendly and there is a nearby eatery. It's great to sit outside and chat or view the river. Location is great, easy access to Monument Valley, Gooseneck. Mexican Hat and canyon lands. I will say the hotel... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The San Juan Inn is nestled along the cliffs of the San Juan River 20 miles north of Monument Valley Tribal Park. All rooms face the river, with the upper rooms having a view of the river. The lower rooms have direct access to the patios overlooking the river and its' colorful redrock cliffs. The Olde Bridge Grille, which is located on property, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 7 am-9pm daily. This Grille is a Native Navajo run enterprise. The motel office is located in the historic trading post. We pride ourselves for buying our Navajo rugs directly from the weaver. Having a well stocked grocery store, general store and curio shop, we run the trading post pretty much as it was in the early 1900s. Come join us! The Navajo people are shy but welcoming, the beauty of the land unsurpassed. ... more   less
