We are situated within the city limits of Escalante, Utah on the scenic highway 12 between Bryce Canyon, Capital Reef, Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument and thousands of miles of public land. Every room of the house provides majestic views of the Kaiparowitz plateau, which creates a perfect canvas for Utah's finest dramatics: lightning storms, memorable sunrises, celestial sightings, weather changes and slow easy going sunsets. I am sure that there are more than one nice place to stay in the Escalante area. Most often they are booked early and solid. We managed to book La Luz at last minute due to a cancellation. You can see from their web page photos the quality of the place. Clean, spacious, quiet, extremely well appointed for its price, no problems with dust mites, super stocked kitchen, bath and even CDs. They are just on the edge of town - 3 blocks - and the quiet is profound. Ricki and Sandy are grand hostesses and make you feel like you are part of the family. The cost is almost the price of a hotel room. Loved the beautiful nigh time sky loaded with stars an a killer sun rise over the alfalfa field with the sun lighting up the monument like a Christmas tree.

The house was wonderful and the setting quiet. Kitchen well equipped and the owners allowed us into thier vegetable garden to pick herbs and New Zeland spinach. They were also helpful without being in your way and a wealth of information on where to hike.

We're still within Escalante town limits yet on the edge and hear the coyotes in the wee hours in the morning. So much to do, so little time.

Excellent. As advertised, completely. Comes fully equipped with more than you'll need for a vacation in this house. The smaller house is also very good. We had a tour of it. In this larger house, the patio is lovely, sheltered from the wind, nice place for coffee then cocktails in the evening. Comfortable bed, helpful hosts, great location close to town. Also close to hikes. Couldn't be better. Rent this if you are two or four people. Can sleep six, and it would be ok.

We chose Escalante as a base to see Bryce, Zion, Capitol Reef and Kodachrome. La Luz was perfect. Ricki and Sandy were wonderful and very helpful! Ricki's insight into local , "off the beaten path" attractions were spot on. We followed his advice were were very thankful for his expertise and directions! The house was lovely and the view from the patio was splendid. The internet was spotty but that was probably because we had 5 people with upwards of 10 devices. We turned off all unnecessary devices and we were fine. We did a lot of cooking, and we were thankful that we stopped for groceries in Grand Junction on our way in. There was not much locally for groceries, as well as beer or wine(which were expecting because this IS Utah. No surprises there!) We had an add-on to our party which gave us 5 people and one bathroom/shower. We thought it would be an issue but careful scheduling worked out and we were fine! If we make it back to Escalante we will stay here again. We will recommend La Luz to friends and family!

My husband and I and some friends stayed at the La Luz in April of 2015. I already seen pics of the house but it exceeded our expectations. As stated in the previous reviews the house has a wonderful feel and flow. The kitchen is fabulous and the house is thoughtfully put together to meet any needs you might have. There was only one shower in the downstairs bedroom and a toilet and sink in the room which my husband and I occupied. At first we saw this as a bit as an issue, but waking up to the great view and sharing the facilities with friends made it no issue at all. The beauty of this house just makes you want to take care of it. The owners Ricki and Sandy live right next door and are awesome. Ricki is an Wikipedia of information about the area and fun to talk to. He helped us work through some personal planning during our trip which will always be remembered fondly. The fact that Ricki and Sandy are next door is not obtrusive at all. Access is available to the laundry and the BBQ. The patio is awesome for star watching. The La Luz is a perfect base for the area. I felt as if I was coming home at the end of the day. The views from the house are so relaxing. Escalente is a nice little town and the grocery store has a wide range of items for its size, but if you like to cook, I would suggest planning on grabbing some food items, especially fresh vegetables and some meats and bringing them with you. The kitchen has ample pans, dishes and the odds and end spices and other items left by previous guests were helpful. Thanks Ricki and Sandy. Yes we would love to come back and we will continue to recommend La Luz to others.
