I booked The Santa Elena at the La Posado Milagro for comfort and convenience. The photos on the website looked good. They were deceiving. I did not know that you cannot flush toilet paper down the toilet, that there is NO closet to store your suitcase or hang your clothes, or that the bathroom shower is tiled with 12 x 12 shiny slick tiles that leave zero traction when taking a shower. The shower stall floor tilts, and with such a slippery surface, your are in serious danger. You stand in a sort of corral with glass tiles, and there is NOT a grab bar. There are no towel racks. The bed is cheap, squeaky, and hard. The room is very small and cramped. It fell way below what I was expecting.. If you choose the St. Elena room, be sure you have some rubber soled shoes you can shower in, bring your own pillow, and know there is no where to put your clothes.…
We were last minute and we were able to book the bunk bed room. Really cute rustic room. Probably one of the best sleep I’ve had since being on the road at hotels for 2 wks. Yes we shared a fridge - really was not a big deal and I wish we had the time to take advantage of the fire pit etc but it looked really cozy. The view was awesome too! I would def recommend!!
I have mixed feelings about this hotel. On one hand, the decor is really cool and the views are breathtaking - from the parking lot, the outdoor kitchen area, and even from laying in bed! (we stayed in the Chisos Suite). Our room - and in particular the bathroom - was spacious, and well-appointed. It is also in a great location just up the hill from the Starlight Theatre, and the night sky from the patio area is unreal on a clear night. Lastly, I appreciated the outdoor kitchen area, which had a communal fridge, oven, etc. Maybe we just got lucky, but we had a fantastic time hanging out in the communal outdoor area each night enjoying the sunset and star-gazing with some other fun and like-minded couples (that we did not know before staying at the hotel). THAT SAID, I had minor terrors the entire time we stayed in this hotel because it is NOT airtight. By that, I mean there are gaps underneath the doors to the outside (in the room and in the separate door to the outside in the bathroom) as well as in some of the windows that are blocked by wood rather than an actual window pane. Not ideal if you are terrified of spiders like I am. I never actually saw any spiders, but I also stuffed towels in all the door/window gaps to avoid letting any creepy crawlers in. The window in the bathroom also has no covering on it so in theory if someone were to stand on the hill outside our room they would be able to see right into the shower. Last three things to point out - the bathroom is very dark at night and early-mornings (difficult for getting ready), there is a step up into the bathroom which can be a bit treacherous in the dark at night, and be warned that you cannot flush your toilet paper. Nothing too bad or inconvenient but just something to take note of. Also, be warned that not all rooms have a priave bathroom.…
Bring matches and lightbulbs. No lamp in room had bulbs; overhead light only. If you want adequate heating....bring that too! You will pay for dates you book; not what you stay. read the fine print. Not like the rest of the world. Ample outdoor firepits....not a match to be found. Bring your own. Be prepared to compete with locals for (the only) restaurant space. Scenery, stars and other guests great. Drive back to Alpine or Marfa and pass on La Posada Milagro....it's no Miracle!
It was wonderful! Adobe style, low ceilings, totally modern including the bathroom, and a wonderful bed! We stayed at the Santa Elena #1 casita which adjoins the other rooms by the outside walkway. Very private. Such a cool place. Lots of outside courtyard space for to enjoy the fire pit and the stars. Great mountain views. Open air common area kitchen with all the things you'll want to cook with - gas range, utensils, fridge, workspace. Ample parking. Be sure to read the arrival instructions as the units are NOT attended by a receptionist. You must pick up your key at the espresso shop. We can't wait to return!
I like the funky aesthetic of this place, but was pretty taken aback by the cost for the experience. The room (#4) was cute but the step up into the bathroom with an alarmingly sloped floor was perhaps the first clue that this place is leaning into the style over substance. There was almost no water pressure or volume of water trickling out of the shower (particularly unpleasant on a chilly night) and surprisingly, a note requested that no toilet paper be flushed down the toilet. I've certainly stayed in places (in other countries) with delicate waste systems and similar requests, but not for $283/night. Most unpleasant was the wad of hair in the shower from the previous visitor which had not been cleaned up. I also found the bed and bedding not particularly comfortable, and the thin quilt quite light for the night temps. I did share my feedback directly with the hotel prior to posting this review, but they didn't feel that these complaints warranted any action.…
My wife and I stopped in and had breakfast because we heard it was great, and it certainly was. The service was friendly and all the people seemed lovely. My wife had the French Toast and I had the Poco Mas Plate which was great. We both had Cappuccino's that hit the spot. Great place for breakfast and lunch.
Stayed here for 2 nights in early May. Quirky little place, very unusual. We had a room with the shared bathroom outside instead of in the room (this was the only room available for our dates) which was fine since we didn't have to share it due to COVID. Very small room with double or queen bed, couldn't tell but lucky we're not big people or would have been pretty cramped for most. All in all, cute place but I felt over-priced for the type of room we had. Would have gladly paid that much for one of the better rooms with a bathroom.
We chose La Posada Milagro based on other reviews. What a cool spot to settle in Terlingua! Joel, our host, was helpful in numerous ways. He was quick to respond to questions and made sure we were comfortable. The outdoor kitchen is an added bonus. There was ample room in the 'fridge, the grill worked well and there were plenty of plates, pots, pans, etc. We look forward to staying here again....someday!
We stayed at La Posada for three nights and it was amazing. The guest house are set into a hillside in the Terlingua Ghosttown. The views of the desert and the mountains in the distance are incredible. The room (we were in Mimi's Guesthouse) was clean, warm (it was freezing outside every night) and well decorated. My only minor complaint is that the water didn't get very hot, but since this is the desert and I suspect normally this is not a concern, it didn't take away from the experience at all. There were little outside seating areas sprinkled through the property, with two right outside our room. I loved the bird feeders for bird watching and the star gazing was out of this world. Last great thing was the location. You're able to walk to the coffee shop and the Starlight Theater down the hill, which was a bonus after long days driving in Big Bend. Can't wait to go back one day!…
