It’s a really neat old building and the rooms are tasteful and clean, but don’t count on getting a good night’s sleep when you’re here. Windows may as well be open for the amount of street noise you’ll hear, and the hotel knows because they are kind enough to leave earplugs by the bed. Also the hot water at the sinks made a very loud clanging noise, like the pipes were vibrating, and we heard this loud noise coming from other rooms as well. You’ll also hear people in the hallway - there’s just no sound insulation in this old building at all. Coffee is available down the hall but not in your room. There’s no front desk, which was fine for us, but when I replied to a text sent with check-in info asking a question, I never got a reply.
Gorgeous remodeled quaint little hotel. ( only 6 rooms ). Nice rooms and bathrooms. TV works. But ... Very weak Wi-Fi Very noisy. They do provide earplugs beside the bed. No shampoo or conditioner. No elevator. You must carry your luggage up the stairs. No breakfast. There is a coffee shop on the first floor, but it’s not very good and frequently “out of stock” on basic breakfast items. Bed was EXTREMELY soft. If you have back problems, probably best to find another hotel. And ... no staff at all. So, hope you don’t have any issues.
We decided to stay a night in San Saba because we read it was like Fredericksburg, but without the crowds, but there isn’t much to there other than a handful of shops. Pretty tired town. No restaurants of any quality. As for the hotel...Very nice room and comfortable bed. Water was hot and towels large and soft. Western themed decor. WiFi was spotty. Basic TV channels. Street noise wasn’t as bad as expected based on other reviews. Would we stay here again..? Hmmm...if you took this place and relocated it another place, yes, but not in San Saba.
I would expect to find a boutique hotel of this quality in downtown Austin, Portland, or Nashville. But not this far from the Big City. Very impressive! Great hotel and beautiful town. Good service too. No complaints.
First of all, if you can not climb a large flight of stairs with your luggage, reconsider this location. No Elevator. Second if you are a light sleeper then also consider another option. This hotel is right on the two main crossroads and the diesel trucks and teenage hot rods make a lot of noise. The Coffee Shop downstairs could also be clearly heard through the floor (but they close fairly early). The room was very clean, the bathroom was fantastic, and with only 6 rooms it was not a noisy hallway. (But another addition to the noise is every room has a keypad that beeps and every time someone goes in their room there are 5 beeps. They also encourage you to hang up your towels to save water, but do not provide a towel rack. Overall a nice place, but not our perfect quiet retreat.…
This boutique hotel checks ALL the boxes in what we were looking for in our Valentines getaway. The decor was spot on, the bathroom was simply gorgeous, the bedroom was rustic but perfect, and the entire experience was fantastic. Yes the street noise was a little loud at times, but I had read this ahead of time and came prepared with my small electric fan that I take pretty much every where for just enough background noise to block out other sounds and help me sleep. Bottom line; I highly recommend staying in the Dofflemyer Hotel, eating downstairs in the cafe (Oliver and Company), shopping in Harry’s and hiking in Colorado Bend. Perfect weekend getaway!
My wife and I were looking for a nice overnight prior to a long weekend at a B&B in Fredericksburg. We stayed on a weekday night and rolled into town after the stores in town had closed up for the day. Despite the fact that most of the town had rolled up the welcome mat, we were VERY impressed with the Dofflemeyer from the jump. The lobby was small but very well appointed with a distinct Texana vibe. The room was great as well. Lots of space to move around and clean! It was tastefully decorated and the mattress was amazing. I can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay. It was a five star experience in a one stop light town.
We really loved our brief moment in this cute hotel. It’s everything you want from a place - clean, comfy, and spacious nice shower. The bonuses include - easy access in and out of room, wonderful coffee center down the hall, large TV and snuggly bedding. Well designed to the point I need the designer in my house! Think of this place as a get away. Maybe for you and your spouse.
This place is small, 6 rooms. We got room #6 of 6. Text message check in, door codes sent via text. Complimentary coffee bar, room is great. Good A/C heat, high ceilings, great shower, no tub. Rooms are on second floor, nice staircase but no elevator.
WE stayed here for 4th of July and were very impressed with the building, our room and overall uniqueness of it all. We were able to watch the 4th of July fireworks from our room. To the person who referred to San saba as a ghost town, thats simply not true. This is a Hill country town on the rise with a lot to offer
