We got the chance of a couple days off,so decided to drive down to san marcos tx and visit our brother(also it was our first time down in Texas). Miss Cathy and Miss Regina are so sweet, polite and welcoming. Staying at the Crystal River Inn was like home. It was cozzy and welcoming. Everything was so close around too, I basically could count my steps to the pizza place next door, they had huge! delicious slices of pizza.Texas deff got a spot in my heart. Thanks to the inn it just made it better. My bed was so confy and the bath was so big. The inn has a hair salon, nail and spa, and physical therapy. It was such an awsome experience. Thank you Crystal River Inn.

We did not realize that we would not be in the main house pictured on the website. Instead we were in Rock House at the back of the property. The furnishings were funky to say the least. There was no shower curtain on the tub, hair dryer, nor plug for the sink. No amenities such as shampoo were provided, although swabs and cotton balls were in the kitchen for use. There was a hole in the floor in front of the bathroom covered by a rug, which was dangerous. Wood trim on the bathtub appeared to be rotting. The breakfasts were just OK. We understand that the property is up for sale and that the owners might not want to invest money in the obviously needed maintenance. If that is their decision, then they should not be renting out the three rooms in the house. We were trying to avoid chain hotels, but we would have been much better off and saved money, too!

I'm so sorry your group was unhappy. Over the years the Rock House has always been a favorite of ladies' groups so I hate that it didn't measure up in this case. Most people seem to like the "out of the mainstream" "all to yourselves" location of the Rock House, which is indeed on the other side of our wedding garden. To address your 'on the market' comment: yes it is, because after 36 years Mike and I have health issues that mean it's time to retire, but haven't yet found the right awesome energetic young couple who could come in, redo, and take this vintage place back where it deserves to be. But we are hardly holding up on the maintenance (us and staff are truly at it 16 hours a day). It's just that 6 historic houses are a huge challenge! Thanks for your guidance as to things that need concentrating on, it really does help. Thanks also for coming, and for taking the time to share your thoughts.

I booked at the last minute and was given the run around on pricing. I was told three different rates and differing policies on their minimum nights stay. The woman booking the room said there was some festival in town and the owner would prefer to maximize the amount they got for the room. That should have been my clue to drop it, but the pictures looked good and I thought it might be a romantic get away. Our room was not in the house but rather a stone out building. It has a tiny kitchen in the entry way and there are three rooms right off of it. The kitchen area as cluttered and unkept. I’m fact, the entire property was stuffed full of dirty, fake antiques and lacked any charm whatsoever. I felt I had entered a hoarders home. The door to our room was hung crooked, Leaving a two inch gap at the top. The bedroom carpet was filthy, there was mold in the shower which barely trickled out of the ancient shower head, no night stand on one side of the bed and everything was covered in a layer of dust. The queen bed was the worst however. Dirty linen coverd a sagging mattress that left me with a horrible back ache. Between the mattress and the loud noises outside, which included a 4:30am trash dumpster that seemed to be dumping broken glass and rubble frighteningly near the room, neither my husband nor I could sleep. By 5am we were climbing the narrow stairs out of the dangerously high bed to shower and pack up. To add further insult, upon showering and towling dry, I noticed a disgusting brown smear on the towel I was using- it has come folded, off the shelf. Needless to say, we chose NOT to eat the breakfast. We let the workers know about the problems we encounter as we checked out, but they didn’t seem surprised. $139 wasted! I feel awful for any bride forced to spend her wedding on such a disgusting, tacky place. My advice- stay away!
