The hotel is a historic place with much charm that includes time period furnishings and decor. The building itself is a grand place to see even if not staying the night. They have a restaurant on the premises with a beautiful courtyard to explore along with the outside of the building if you are interested in seeing it without being an overnight guest. My room was clean and the same room that President Eisenhower stayed in while in the area. The staff were very friendly, going out of their way to make us feel welcome. It was a charming experience of stepping back in time.

I posted a review a few days ago but, unfortunately, I see it nowhere.
Although I am a Nashville, TN resident now, my then fiancee' and I opted to be married near the area where I grew up, and where my large family lives. We chose "LA BORDE HOUSE" for our venue. What an awesome choice it was!
You will find this property retains it's historic ambiance, with period furnishings and decor of an affluent 19th century family. The parlour is absolutely gorgeous. Each of it's seven rooms are richly decorated and take you back to a period of clawfoot tubs, tiled bathrooms and even nostalgic toilets. The beautiful indoor staircase and landings, with french doors on the north and south sides, lead to an outdoor corridor that wraps around the middle of the property, overlooking the darling tropical courtyard below. An exhilirating breeze fills the property when the north and south french doors are opened, stealing its air from the tropical setting outdoors.
The outdoor corridors lead to several of the property's additional "apartments" that also overlook the courtyard, below. (only a few of these house year-round residents, most are available for renting) The outdoor staircases served as a great place for the bride and her wedding party to march down to the rather small courtyard. We were able to easily accomodate about 130 guests in the courtyard, where our wedding ceremony took place.
It was also great to have a restaurant onsite (Che's). They were able to cater our wedding party, with plenty of sitting in the restaurant and in the courtyard. It was really convenient to have the restaurant onsite for an awesome breakfast and lunch. They featured homemade tortillas and an array of authentic mexican food, as well as american food.
The courtyard tiled bathrooms were very accomodating for our guests. We were able to comfortably accomodate a live band and took advantage of the ancillary tiled bar and serving/cooking area in the courtyard. The elevator was just being installed and not yet operational, but the one bedroom downstairs was easily accessable for our one handicapped guest.
We were given the personal home telephone # for the front desk clerk to call upon our arrival---at any time of day or night, so that she could meet us and let us into our rooms. It was a holiday. She was, literally, 4 minutes away and met us promptly at 6am. The staff was wonderful and unobtrusive. It was almost as if they did not realize what they have in this hidden treasure. The price was to die for. We booked all the rooms, several apartments, and the courtyard. We had the whole place to ourselves, less the one poor resident in another area that, no doubt, had to endure our hoopla. There was not a better place in the entire RGV that would have accomplished for us what this property did.
I highly recommend this site. It is a must-stay for anyone visiting the general area. You will find the property absolutely ENCHANTING.

The La Borde House is tops. It is charming, beautiful, and takes one back to Western times. It is certainly worth experiencing.
For an especially romantic night, stay in the "Red Room." The name says it all!!

My wife and I had the misfortune of staying at this hotel recently. There is nothing that could ever make me stay there again, not even if it was free. The hotel is run down with peeing wall paper, stained floors in the bathroom, door falling of the hinges etc. The bed was of a rooming house quality and about as comfortable as sleeping on the floor. Speaking of sleep, we were unable to have that expectation met because of loud talking, swearing, fighting drunks partying up until 3am, at which time the police finally came to settle things down. We found out in the morning that one of the people causing the disturbance was an employee of the hotel......nice touch. I would say the night we spent at "La White Trash House" was as close to hell on earth as it gets. Be warned, if you stay there you will regret it!!!!

If you do not believe that there is an after life and some folks are stuck on it you need to visit here. I went into a room that is supposed to be haunted by two children that drowned in a well. Went in because my husband heard whispers. I heard them, walked on to see if it was truly what I heard and the hairs on my arms and next stood straight up and I was freezing cold!! A must see

I have been staying here for a week now and will for the next two months for work. The staff here will go above and beyond what is expected. Don't go here expecting all the amenities of a Ritz Carlton...this is a lovely old hotel built in the late 1800's so it shows it's age and beauty.

We stayed in the RINGGOLD Room. It was ice cold (the A/C) and very quaint. We really enjoyed our stay. My parents were across the hall on the second floor and my Uncle was in the room next door. We went out onto the terrace outside our window and drank gin tonics while the traffic rolled by,............it was delightful. Victoria Garza was VERY helpful (She runs the place) and a kind soul. It IS an old hotel,.....even a bit "rickety",.....but I loved it! (The beds were very comfortable too!!)
