We just spent three nights at the Gruene River Hotel & Retreat. We stayed in the Tinseltown room. The stay was flawless. Easy to reserve and check in. Loved the room! Large room with comfy bed and nice bath. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony and had two deer visitors one morning. We were greeted with champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries with a sweet note. Everything was walking distance from the hotel. The breakfast buffet is out of this world. You cannot believe how much food there was. And it was all delicious! Every single employee we encountered was helpful and gracious. We will definitely be back!

We stayed in the Guadalupe Haven...Perfect! We loved the room, it is beautiful and spacious, the bathroom is large. Bed was very comfty. Great breakfast buffet. Walking distance to Gruene Hall. Use caution if you walk down to river, many steps... We had planned to take a swim, but it rained on us. Will come back!

My husband and I stayed here for four nights to celebrate my birthday and a little mini vacation. This hotel is next to the Guadeloupe River and within walking distance to the downtown Gruene historical district. When we arrived we were very excited as driving up to the hotel it looks like a southern mansion with lots of charm. Big oak trees, large porch and balcony, a gazebo out front. Just very quaint. We checked in a little early thank you to the establishment for allowing us to do so! We stayed in the Wild West Room. This room has a balcony overlooking the river side. We would have loved to be able to see the river but you couldn’t see it due to the trees. I’m not sure if the hotel could trim the trees back or not but I would recommend this to you if that’s possible. The room was themed everything followed the Wild West theme. Even had a copper tub in the bathroom. We loved the room. The bed was comfortable enough. We are spoiled at home so it’s hard to find something that compares to what we have there. We loved the amenities. They have a wonderful game area downstairs complete with a pool table, shuffle board table, and video game! They also have numerous board games available. There is also a large meeting room downstairs. The property has stairs that go down to the river for access. They serve a buffet breakfast cooked by a chef. We had frittatas, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, pancakes, bread pudding, fresh fruits and such over the four days we were there. They also have cookies available during the day and a social hour in the evening with wine and nuts. The staff if very friendly and helpful. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because we had two issues with our room while there. First the bathroom sink didn’t drain very well and second the condensation vent pipe from the air conditioner drained/dripped into the tub. We brought both of these issues up with the management and they were able to fix the sink somewhat but the vent pipe issue wasn’t fixed. The constant dripping while the air conditioner was running was a bit bothersome. We closed the bathroom door to try to keep the noise out from the dripping. I know this may be something due to the age/construction of the building may not be fixable or avoided but for the price that you pay for these rooms you expect perfection. With that being said I still would highly recommend this hotel for a quaint getaway. It is in a great location close to shopping and downtown New Braunfels is only about 20min away.

Hi Heidi! Thanks so much for providing a detailed review of your stay with us. We are glad you enjoyed the location of our hotel and the accessibility to Gruene Hall and all of the shops and restaurants within walking distance. I apologize the drip from the AC was bothersome to you during your stay. The Texas heat was so intense during the week of your stay that our ACs were unfortunately working overtime to keep up! The Wild West room is a favorite among our guests and we're thrilled you enjoyed the decor and the antique copper claw-foot tub. We look forward to seeing you again on your next visit to Gruene!

I actually rented three different rooms two different ones for ourselves and one for family we were entertaining. We stayed in the Guadalupe Haven...Perfect! We loved the room, it is beautiful and spacious, the bathroom is large. I loved this room. We moved rooms to the cozy cabin, and it was a much smaller room for the same amount of money and there were a few issues. The room was much hotter and harder to cool than our previous room and the mattress had an issue. When one person was on the bed, it was ok, but when two people went to lay down to sleep, there was a large harder dome shaped hump in the middle of the bed to the point I was afraid i was going to roll off on my side, when i moved to the top of the hump i was almost 10 inches higher than my spouse. It was like the mattress bunched up in the middle...??? I would not have stayed in the the room for another night. When we spoke to the blonde woman in the office about the mattress, she said they have not had any other complaints and the mattress was recently replaced. I understand other people may not have said something to you, but I am saying something to you now. I felt like my complaint was dismissed. We were just advising them of the issue, it was really uncomfortable. I rented the "retreat" for my family and they did not have any issues with the room, it had a large bathroom and closet and was a very comfortable room. In regards to the property, it is beautiful and in a great location so close to shops and food. There are deer everywhere and the access to the river is great. I would invest in some small pea gravel or stones to build up the entrance to the water to prevent injury. The patio down by the water is peaceful and the property is wonderfully maintained. The wine each evening was a treat and the staff went out of their way to help up with early check in due to our schedule. We will definitely stay there again.

My husband and I stayed last Sunday night. We loved it. The rooms are all different. It’s a 21 and up property. They do free wine and snacks every day from 5:30-7. They have a game room with pool table, shuffle board, board games, a tv and seating. There is a patio right on the river. Would highly recommend.
