We returned home after two weeks in January at the Bitacora hotel. Our stay was an adults family holiday, All-Inclusive. We have stayed numerous times we love the hotel & staff. I write this with a heavy heart, we have met some lovely returning older couples that I know feel the same as us. We book direct with the hotel as a complete package, unfortunately the hotel price has increased by over 30% making this unaffordable. So very disappointing as this is a huge increase for older people. We have been coming to the Island for over 30 years.

Hotel's Favorite
Superb- other reviews are scaremongering We are currently staying here and this is our 2nd visit to Bitacora. We came last August but there was still a lot of restrictions in place etc. The hotel is back in full swing with activities/entertainment etc. ‘The sickness bug’ well all I can say is we haven’t seen or heard anything about it- was worried before we came after reading reviews but if I’m honest a lot of it sounds like holiday insurance claims after people were spotted by the pool/bar when apparently ‘sick as a dog’ in their rooms! What is evidently apparent is that post pandemic people have forgotten about hygiene and cleanliness. Several occasions I saw in the buffet adults using their hands (plenty of tongs available), kids touching food/licking it and putting it back, kids not being supervised by adults and most not using the sanitiser available in the Resturant. Additionally a tone of adults not washing their hands after using the toilet- like seriously? Basic hygiene principle! No wonder people got sick or a bug spread. The hotel is spotlessly clean, additional staff doing touch points, pool area cleaned everyday along with hotel areas. Rooms also very clean- if you want your sheets changed everyday you only have to ask or leave the card out? But who has their sheets changed everyday at home anyway? 🤷🏼‍♀️ Food choices are excellent both at the buffet or pool bar- pool bar has two menus more fast food type food on the touch screens and an ‘a la carte’ menu at the bar to eat in or takeaway to the pool. Drink choices are excellent and include premium spirits/cocktails. You MUST try a Barraquito (coffee/brandy and condensed milk) a Tenerife traditional drink. Subbed situation- ok here goes… we were a party of 7 (4 adults, 2 teenagers and an 8 year old) and everyday we managed to get loungers all together. What was evident is that if you want a lounger by the kids pool/slides you are going to get up early to secure this. There isn’t many beds in that area but if you are adamant you want to sit there so you don’t have to go in the pool with your little cherubs then be prepared for an early start. If like us you aren’t fussed where you sit then you’ll be fine. Staff are very super friendly and the mini club team are fantastic. Lots of activities during the day- the foam party in the main pool was an absolute highlight! Rooms- all have a mini fridge, hair dryer, safe, plenty of sockets, comfortable and a good size too overall. All rooms have balcony and if I’m honest I’m not sure the extra for a pool view is worth it. Lots saying the evening entertainment was too loud for the little ones trying to sleep in those rooms. Each to their own though. Short distance to the main drag ‘the golden mile’ and Veronica’s strip (although lots of reports of spiking/theft there so be cautious). Lots of bars, supermarkets and shops open till 10pm. Several mini golf courses too and of course we had to hunt down TiKTok star ‘very good very nice’ for a video (he was on the golden mile). 15-20 min walk into los Cristianos. Overall take the reviews with a pinch of salt, I’m honest and fussy- if this place was terrible I’d say but I honestly couldn’t find any fault with it. Just a bunch of moaning Minnie’s wanting champagne lifestyle on lemonade money if I’m honest. Enjoy you won’t be disappointed.

Very clean, family friendly hotel. Staff very friendly and work very hard to make your stay the best it can be. Plenty of entertainment for all age groups, day and night. The hotel is in a very busy area so be prepared to hear music from nearby bars until the early hours of the morning. This didn’t ruin my holiday in anyway. Visited the Up bar, this is a very nice quiet space for adults. The restaurant had a good selection of food for all age groups , and the staff very efficient. The rooms are very spacious, and the beds very comfortable. Had a lovely holiday and would definitely return to this hotel.

My sister and I stayed in the hotel in October. She has been staying regularly in this hotel for many years. Huge changes and certainly not for the better! Not one member of management was to be found anywhere in the hotel and one was expected to use a touch screen in the lobby to get information but this was not working nor was their App and asking questions via the App were never answered! One lift permanently out of order and had been so for several weeks. With regards to the refurbished bedrooms whoever designed the bathroom placing the towels at the furthest point away from the shower. Food was not to 4* standard and was amazed at so many processed foods out on the buffet counters. Temperature of all hot foods on the buffet counter was never hot even when the dining room opened for dinner. On the dessert buffet there were ice creams on offer and on one section the ice cream was melting and upon inspection I could clearly see ice crystals. Highly dangerous! Are health and safety policies not in place as in HACCAP? Staff in the dining room and reception were very nice and friendly. The entertainment at night time was very good. With regards to the swimming pools no thought has gone into catering for the elderly and the lifeguards were so bad. Children were constantly jumping into the jacuzzi pool which was very deep as well as being clearly marked out of bounds for children, same with the adult pool but the lifeguards rarely appeared to monitor this pool and generally were so busy talking to each other at their station. No Porter to carry in one’s cases upon arrival. I most definitely not be returning nor will my sister and several folks that we talked to who also returned regularly said they would never come again. Hotel does not deserve 4* rating!

My mum has just received a 6 month prognosis and this was meant to be our final family holiday. I carefully researched for somewhere that would be special for ourselves, my grown up brother and my two children. I am disappointed to say that there was nothing special about this holiday at all. We’re very much ‘make the best of every situation’ kind of people but the entire holiday was really quite disheartening. I set the budget quite a bit higher than I usually would for a bit more wow factor but it really didn’t excel. Arriving at the hotel… Firstly, the reception staff were very rude and dismissive at all points of our holiday, other members of staff are really lovely but all members of reception staff were not. All other 4 star hotels I’ve stayed in offer drinks on arrival, this one didn’t. Two out of the three rooms were not ready for our arrival at 14.15. We were told to come back later, but we travelled from the uk snow to the hot hotel after starting our journey at 4am so we all wanted to change. I didn’t think this was good enough at all to be expected to wander around the hotel in all of our layers. The buffet food was lovely at breakfast and lunch but the evening was a struggle even for myself who will eat anything. Many people in the hotel fell ill after our Saturday night meal so I lost an entire day of the holiday as I was one of them, (on Mother’s Day too). I had a stomach bug which meant I was confined to my room for all on Sunday then I had horrible stomach cramps on Monday and Tuesday. The hotel said it was a bug, I strongly think it was the sushi from the buffet the night before as I was the only member of my party to eat it and the only one to fall ill. There was an empty fridge in our room but the hotel wouldn’t even allow us to take bottles of water back, they directed us to the supermarket for water in our room. I’ve never known this before at any hotel I’ve stayed in whilst all inclusive. My child’s blanket went missing on day two of our holiday and I went to the reception to ask if it had been located, they said no. We hadn’t taken it out of the room so I searched the room again and it wasn’t there. I went back to reception again and asked if the cleaners may have taken it with the laundry by mistake, they said they would check. I hasn’t heard anything so on the last day of my holiday, I asked again about the blanket and they said housekeeping did take it and returned it to me, no apology, nothing and I had to seek it out myself. It caused lots of upset with my homesick child. The games room was a scam, most of the machines took our coins or didn’t work properly and the reception did reimburse us but after the 3rd time in 20 minutes of climbing the stairs for our money back, we gave up asking and just accepted our losses. We had a lovely day planned for our last day which we had to cancel as there was a man on holiday alone with his two young girls, aged 7 and 9, who was so drunk he couldn’t get up off the sun bed. No hotel staff seemed to notice or care so My mum went to assist as he shouted at his girls to go to their room and they ran to their room scared. A lifeguard was called over and reception staff were made aware. The lifeguard carried the man to the lift, ushered my mum inside and pushed the button so my mum then escorted the man to his room. Once inside the room, the girls clung onto my mum and she took them downstairs to take care of them while their intoxicated dad sobered up. Obviously this cancelled our plans as we had them between 12pm and 5pm. It turned out the girls had spent much of their holiday alone in the hotel room while their dad drank at the bar and the adults only rooftop. We made the reception staff aware and they said there was nothing they could do. I believe this is a huge safeguarding issue in which the hotel should have intervened, at the very least they could have taken the girls into kids club or checked on how they were handling being left with strangers. Between the drunk man and my illness I feel like it’s robbed happy memories from our family. This I blame the hotel for and jet2’s very generous rating. Overall, this was meant to be the most special holiday. The hotel staff were very dismissive to my complaints. I find it extremely embarrassing to complain and tried to always be kind but I felt I couldn’t get my point across.

Response from Domingo Pérez, Guest Services / Front Office at Spring Hotel Bitacora
Responded yesterday
Good afternoon, first of all we would like to express our regrets regarding these guests not having enjoyed their holidays with us to the fullest. We apologize if you felt that any of our staff were rude to you, if you look at our reviews on Tripadvisor, booking, google, etc. you will be able to see that people talk very highly of our staff, also the reception staff, so it really comes as a surprise to us that you found all our reception staff rude. Regarding the time to check in to your rooms, on the Jet2Holidays website, our website, APP, etc. you can always read that the check-in time is at 15:00, and that we don´t guarantee the rooms until that time, as in the majority of the hotels around the world. We have the detail of allowing guests into the room sooner when they are already clean, because of course we understand many of them have travelled a long way and like to change, but we are actually in no obligation of giving the rooms until 15:00h. Nevertheless we offer the access to the luggage rooms for all of our guests and we have a few bigger bathrooms (for wheelchair adapted) where you can change clothes. We appreciate you praising our gastronomic offer for breakfast and lunch and are surprised that you didn’t find anything to eat in the buffet during dinner time. There is a different buffet every day during 14 days, with 6 themed evening during those 2 weeks (and of course the corners that always repeat themselves like pasta or salad corner). Also if maybe you like the meat thoroughly cooked you can always let the cook know and they will happily cook it to your liking. Regarding the claim about being sick because of the sushi, we highly doubt it, since we are always really attentive to the correct use and storage of the food, as well as analyzing the correct temperature and consistency of the food when it arrives. Especially with food such as sushi we take it very seriously, because of the danger of it not being in good condition and of course we have periodic analysis of all the food, fridges, ovens, etc... to ensure the good condition and functioning of it, these inspections are carried out by external companies and if the hotel does not comply with certain things and something is found to be in bad condition, we can get a good fine. We take great care to ensure food safety and hygiene, cleanliness and cooking in the kitchen (as in the rest of the hotel). Also during those days and the next days we have had no record of anybody else feeling poorly, as far as we are concerned. You get unlimited water for free during the whole day, the only thing is that we don’t offer bottles anymore because for sustainability reasons and environmental friendliness we have decided to supreme the maximum amount of plastic we can. So if you have your own bottle or buy a bottle in the supermarket, you can always fill them up with all the water you need. As for the part of the missing blanket, we would like to apologize for not communicating with you that we had found it. We were in contact with the housekeeping manager all the time to see if she had found it and when she finally did we forgot to mention this. Luckily you could still get it and take it home. We understand you were upset about having to come up to the reception because the machine in the game room wasn’t working, but we have never kept the money you lost, always gave it back, maybe my colleagues forgot to tell you to don’t try that machine again because it may be broken and we always call the machine company so they can come and take a look as soon as possible. The incident with the man and his 2 daughters, we couldn’t act because we didn’t know something was happening until that day, that was the last day before his departure day, and as soon as we noticed we got in contact with his travel agent. When anything happens with our guests that come through our travel agent, we are in obligation of informing their rep responsible for our hotel and they contact the guests to for example give them a final warning, change the hotel, etc. The rep contacted him and warned him, so as far as we were concerned nothing else happened, of course if any of the staff would have been witness of any type of violence with anybody or the daughters, they immediately call reception and we call the police, we are really strict with this. We wish we would have caught this earlier but unfortunately during the day by the pool, or restaurant, reception area there was never a behavior like that one we could see and react to. Reading the rest of the paragraphs of the complaint, we see they are directed at Jet2Holidays. We do really hope you give us another chance to prove you wrong about our hotel and to provide you with a wonderful holiday in our hotel. Kind regards, Customer Experience Team

Hotel was stylish and very clean. Swimming pools were excellent. Pools were heated and water temperature was good. Water slides were much fun and lifeguard checked that they were used safely. Kids would have stayed there all day. There was section for adults only with some spa-like features. Halfboard buffet had wide selection. There was grill were cook prepared fresh meat and fish by order. Every day had different options. We wondered were all that food goes after dinner. Hopefully it is not just wasted. Hotel was very clean and staff were polishing places all the time. Some of the detergents had quite strong scent. Location was good. Only short walking distance from beach. There was bus stop just across the street.

Was recommended this hotel by travel agent for my son who is in a wheelchair, we were a party of 4 myself, my partner, my son and my sister we were in an adapted room it was a good size but it seemed unfinished and the shower room would get water everywhere when using the shower there was problems with the rooms with the wristbands and gaining entry we were all inclusive plus it was not worth the money. The only bar open during the day is the pool bar they do not do table service during the day so when I wanted a drink I had to push my son in his chair over there up ramps to get a drink for us and drink it there as no one offered to help me with our drinks its impossible to push a wheel chair and carry drinks to the terrace where my son liked to be we also had rain for a few days while there and I had to do that slipping on slippy paths to the pool bar as they still did not open inside bar it was ridiculous . We had a pool day and had to use the pool hoist we were showed how to work this by some one else staying there as no member of staff or lifeguard came to show us they just stared. The food was not good definitely not 4 star standard. The hotel smelled of weed a lot. Most of the staff made no effort with us and I had a rude man at reception when I was trying to sort out late check in for my sons needs I would never come back here I paid a lot of money for this hotel and it was not worth it we were there for 11 days

Dear Laura, Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback on your stay. We hope you understand that we are unable to serve the entire pool area, so we offer service on the terrace of our Pool Bar Papaya. In this case, I am sure my colleagues would have assisted you in bringing the drinks to the table. We are sorry we did not meet your expectations. I have noted your concerns and will follow up. Kind regards from the entire Spring Hotel Bitacora team.

Just returned from the Bitacora and we had a great time . The hotel is lovely and staff very good. We had a pool view room for 3 adults and it was spacious enough with a large sofa bed, walk in shower , modern and , great view. Pool area is lovely and plenty of sun beds ( but we were there outside of school holidays ).We were half board and the choice in the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner is huge , however I think the quality suffers. Typical hotel buffet type food that after a couple of days is bland and samey. The temperature was also luke warm, however the choice is great so you would always find something to eat ( just didn’t have a lot of flavour) One thing that we were not aware of is we decided to eat out for dinner and decided to swap for lunch . We didn’t think it would be an issue and have done this in the past at other hotels . However here they do charge you 5 euros to swap for lunch . This 5 euros does include soft drinks and beer on draught but there was not an option to not have a drink. The lunchtime food choice is also much reduced so I don’t see why there is a charge and what the issue is ? They didn’t publicise this either so just be aware. Drinks reasonably priced and entertainment in the fun bar was mixed, but depends on your taste. Activity team were great and it looked brilliant for kiddies. We had a lovely few days and I would definitely stay again, however b&b would be preferable to me.

We spent a week in this hotel (wasn’t our first choice due to TUI messing up but we are glad we ended up here). the facilities are amazing for kids (our are 1.5YO and 3.5YO) they just had the best time. The hotel is so accessible with buggies, there was never any sunbed wars, you could take your towels away and always find another one no matter what time of day. Always loads of shade available. The children’s pool was just perfect and so safe, the main pool was also lovely and warm. The kids club was amazing and the entertainment team were great. The park / kids clubs was a great place to stay out of the sun for a bit. The location of this hotel is perfect for shopping/ walking/ the beach, you’re in the heart of everything. The food was always great, loads of high chairs available. The options for dairy free products were great for our son, things like kids yoghurts were perfect at the buffet. Having ice cream available at the pool bar is a nice touch as many AI charge extra for things like that. We had lunch outside at the pool bar most days because it was enough and we enjoy outside eating. The is the only downside to this hotel, no outdoor dining on an evening. The staff were all really attentive and friendly and everything was spotless. All in all I can’t think of anything that would make this a better family hotel. The adults only sections looked fab - unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to check them out but from people I spoke to, they were lovely! So a big thank you to the team there 🙂
