At Zafiro Rey Don Jaime, guests have praised the hotel for its cleanliness and the dedication of the cleaning staff, despite the presence of dated furnishings. Its location is a highlight, offering easy access to beaches, restaurants, and shops. However, reviewers have noted that noise can be an issue due to thin walls and external sounds.
While the atmosphere is described as lacking vibrancy with dated decor, the service provided by the staff is often commended. The hotel's amenities, including multiple pools and a sauna, are popular, although some areas are noted to need refurbishment.

Detailed Reviews
This was our first time in Santa Ponsa and we had previously heard good things about Zafiro in Palma Nova from family however I can’t really say I would hurry back.
The rooms were small with little storage space so we had to store clothes on chairs and keep some in the suitcase. The lifts were very small too, we had a pushchair which just about fit if we turned it on the side which wasn’t ideal. The food was okay, quite repetitive and some breakfast food was often undercooked which was disappointing. We ended up eating out a few times due to how repetitive the food was. The desserts were often delicious and the restaurant staff were very efficient in keeping it tidy.
The other thing which was awful, and many others also agreed when we was speaking to them, was the slow bar service. Whether it was 9am or 10pm, there was a very long queue at the bar, which I can’t say I’ve ever experienced abroad.
I was disappointed that there was no childrens entertainment other than a lovely young girl who did a kids disco in the pool at 5pm one day. Other than that it wasn’t very child friendly and it was very difficult to keep them entertained.
The outside restaurant was one of the only good things about our stay, though the service was also quite slow, the food was delicious.
With it being quite close to Magaluf, it was very busy with young adults aged 17-23. We usually enjoy walking around of an evening but it was far too busy and rowdy with part goers.
Overall, it is definitely not worth over £3000 and after staying in other 4* hotels in Spain and the Canary Islands, this hotel certainly is more 3*.

Overall a pleasant stay for my wife and I.
Room:
Our 3rd floor room was clean and well appointed albeit the fridge door needed a shove each time to close it. Our balcony had a nice side on sea view. Bathroom with bath and over bath shower was clean although the sink was very shallow leading to a tendency to splash each time we used it.
Food and drink:
We paid for half board plus which includes breakfasts buffet, evening meal buffet with drinks as well as a single visit to the ala carte restaurant again with drinks included. The choice of food was very good and of a high quality in the main. Drinks outside of meal times are supposed to be charged to your room to be settled later unless you've gone all inclusive. We found this to be inconsistent although we of course are not complaining. 😉
My only gripe was the lack of rhyme or reason for the location of certain foods, especially at breakfast. Tea spoons also appeared to be at a premium, sometimes present and other times MIA. 🤔
Also, the staff are ever so keen to clear your table at meal times as well as during evening entertainment whether you're finished with your meal/drink or not.
Pools:
We never had any problems with loungers around the main pool but the loungers and sun beds at the adult only roof terrace pool and bar are fiercely contested. It's a shame that some feel it necessary to hog their bed for the majority of the day by leaving towels and other personal low value items whether they're there to use it or not.
Entertainment:
The entertainment staff and performers were as you'd expect for this type of hotel. Enjoyable and appreciated.
Hotel staff, cleaners etc.
All very good. One of the room cleaning ladies was particularly helpful after we inadvertently left our balcony window open during an unprecedented tropical storm leaving water and debris all over the floor and bed.
David in reception was the first staff member we met on arrival and was most helpful and friendly.
Location:
Level access to the main resort area and beach so couldn't fault.
So yes, a worthy 4 out of 5. Some tweaks here and there would easily make it a full house of stars.

We have just arrived home from a 10 night stay in this hotel and overall we had a good holiday. Starting with the positives, the staff are so friendly and can’t do enough for you. The entertainment team go above and beyond! There’s always sports / games / aqua aerobics going on that they want to involve you in and the hosts are a great laugh. The location is great, short walk to many bars, restaurants, bus stop, beach, everything is on the door step. The location feels safe when walking at night. Lots of options for drinks on all inclusive and quality spirits used. Only beer included is estrella but no complaints from us about that. The rooftop pool and bar is a highlight of this hotel (if you can get a bed up there) it’s really beautiful and relaxing.
This holiday was really let down for us because of the air con. It might sound dramatic, but we were on the fifth floor and the room was seriously unbearable. The air con is just absolutely awful. We even asked for extra fans which were also very poor. We found it very hard to sleep due to the heat in the room. Our air con also smelt like cigarettes which was very unpleasant, we spoke to another couple who agreed there’s was the same. I was also let down by the fact that the maids do not replace your bottled water even if you are all inclusive, you get one bottle on the first day. You can’t even get a bottle at the bar or reception only a small cup.
Our first week was much better, but by the second week the hotel got VERY busy. It was very hard to get a sun-bed by the pool unless you got there way before it opened, even tho they say you can’t reserve sun beds everyone does. The queues for the bar became very long. The buffet also became very very busy although I know this is common at hotels in the summer months.
We are not fussy eaters but I do have to say the food at the buffet is pretty bad. There’s a sit down bistro restaurant by the pool which does great food between 12-4:30, but the buffet option for lunch and dinner is very poor. It’s a selection of meat which is normally very tough with some rices and pastas and it can be cold. We managed to eat here a few times as like I said we aren’t fussy and we just made do, but I would advise to go out for dinner at the restaurants near by as they are much much better and inexpensive.
We took a trip to the nearby water park, spent a day in Palma shopping and sightseeing, and also spent a night in magaluf, all of which were great. Magaluf is a 10 euro taxi and Palma about 30 euros but you can get the bus nearby instead.
We paid 50 euros for late check out which allowed us to have the room until 6pm which was great at we wernt getting picked up until after midnight. They also allowed us to have our all inclusive all day until midnight which was really generous.
Overall we had a nice holiday and we would say there are plenty of positives and we would recommend this hotel. I do really hope they can improve the air con because this was a real let down for us. Otherwise a nice, fun and positive place for a sunny break.

From the beginning of our trip it was awful. The check in process was painful and on arrival at 12:30 we didn’t get our room keys till 14:40, we kept being told they would ring us when it’s ready but never did. We asked for them to arrange an excursion but after them trying to call once they told us to book via website that was in Spanish. Okay E also asked for restaurant reservation & suggestions as we were desperate for nice Spanish food but they made out they had no idea of the area so we went out to find somewhere ourselves. If you are a food lover DO NOT stay here as you will be bitterly disappointed. The buffet was cold and variety lacking, if you like bland boring food and meals you cook at home this is the place for you. the a la carte was definitely not a la carte and would suggest getting the steak only as my salmon was raw in parts. The rooms are spacious but air con very weak and barely cools the room we kept it on the whole of our 7 night stay and it barely made a difference. The fridge in the room was barely cool too. You get a kettle and mugs in your room but no tea/coffee or milk. The rooms are not soundproof so you can hear people slamming doors, walking past etc. You can hear the cleaning staff early mornings with their trolleys rolling over each floor tile. We could hear building work and dogs barking from our room so thank god we brought a white noise machine. The lunches at the snack bar are the best food you’ll get there, although it will take about 30 mins for them to take your order. Apart from the reception staff the other hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The bar staff make amazing cocktails!! If you want a holiday to lay in a sun bed the whole time this is for you. The local beach was ok but kind of smelly as it washes into the drains when the tide comes in. There are bars, Mac Donald’s and Burger King near by so if you’re after a traditional Spanish experience this isn’t the place to visit.

Poor! AVOID
This hotel is definitely not 4 star as we know it in UK, Spanish star rating appears to be based on available facilities rather than cleanliness, service or food quality.
It is advertised as great for families and couples, but apparently due to the restrictions on all inclusive in neighbouring Magluf, this resort, and particularly this hotel, now attracts the heavy boozers and the place gets overrun with drunken louts who rack the tables up with all inclusive drink, get hammered and make a nuisance of themselves. Groups of older men, away from their families, get drunk and openly leer at young women and make lewd comments
We didn’t realise that we’d be in the middle of never ending football tournaments that take place literally just across the road! Sweaty men in football kits in the restaurant and even in the pool 🤢
The food is invariably overcooked, even the cooked to order offerings, as the staff don’t seem to be well trained. There’s one sanitising station outside the restaurant which NO ONE USES , so if like me you’re worried about catching something horrible you should take your own sanitiser, incidentally you need to watch out for people who eat from the buffet with their fingers as well. Nothing is “policed”except the very strict closing times when coffee machines are disabled, the wine is whisked away promptly and lights start to be switched off . The restaurant closes at 20:45 which was a bit on the early side for me . The queue for after dinner drinks at the only hotel bar is particularly bad, there’s no organisation which seems to be a training issue and it takes forever to get the queue down, the staff however are lovely! An interesting throwback in time at this hotel means that men will be served before you if you’re a woman in a queue for drinks, or even eggs at breakfast!
Unbelievably vaping goes unchallenged here and the stink permeates the indoor areas of the bar area and public areas of the hotel.
The pool area is splattered with duck poo and the seating area outside the bar area has absolutely no shade as the roof curtains have rotted and hang in tatters.
You could sit upstairs at the 18+ pool, if you can get a bed, however you’ll need your high factor sunscreen as there’s very little shade and none at all over the Bali beds as the curtains are missing.
An obvious improvement to this hotel would be self serve coffee machines in the bar and reception areas as queueing for coffee with the people waiting for elaborate cocktails is a real pain.
Theres a lovely beach nearby with great restaurants alongside but the remainder of the town isn’t much to write home about.
Lastly watch out for yourself and your kids as the looky looky men openly deal drugs in the resort !

Dear Guest, We would like to thank you for choosing our hotel for your island holiday. We are so sorry to know that your recent stay at our hotel didn't quite meet your expectations. This situation was exceptional due to an important tournament taking place nearby, with some teams being lodged at our hotel. Our team is always courteous and respectful to all our guests regardless and will never prioritise one group of people over another and are sorry if you felt otherwise. We can only apologise for your experience and can assure you that until now we have not had any of the situations you mention arise and if they did would be immediately reported to the police. However, we have discussed your comments with our team to ensure they remain vigilant. We value all feedback and regret to learn that you were not entirely satisfied with our cuisine, we will be passing your comments to our chef for review. We sincerely hope that you will give us another chance in any of our hotels in the future to provide you with the perfect experience you were looking for and that we are sure we will be able to deliver. Best wishes, Pep Alemany Zafiro Rey Don Jaime, General Manager

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here at the end of June for a short stay of 5 nights. Reading pervious reviews before choosing this hotel we were optimistic that the hotel would be perfect for a short stay.
All staff were great, they were friendly and really helpful when needed.
Location is amazing! 2 minutes from the beach and plenty of bars and restaurants close by.
We arrived around 1.30pm. When we arrived we were asked to store our bags in a locked room as it was too early for our room to be ready. We were able to freshen up in a changing room before we headed out for a wander. The receptionist said they would phone us when our room was ready. They called around half 3 which they apologised for the delay (check in should be 2pm) as the hotel was busy. This wasn’t an issue for us.
Arriving into our room we were greeted by a musky smell (we thought it was maybe a dirty mop smell or drainage) throughout the whole room. We opened the balcony door to try air it a bit but it didn’t help. We contacted the receptionist and asked if someone could come up and try explain what the smell could be. Receptionist said she would get maintenance to check out the drains but this didn’t happen. We mentioned it twice but no action was taken. The smell was there our whole stay. The air con is awful, it was so hot and every time the maid came to clean our room they would take the extra key away so we couldn’t have the air con on during the day, although it didn’t make much difference but even a light breeze in the room would of been appreciated!
Also no hand wash was included in our room so we asked for some but it seemed to be an older bottle that was continuously refilled which was given to us.
Furthermore, there is a kettle and cups but no tea and coffee are provided.
We choose half board when we booked this hotel thinking we would only be paying for days out and perhaps some lunch…. but this wasn’t the case. Breakfast was okay, very basic but there would be something for everyone to eat. Evening meal was pretty poor, a lot of pork and no other meat option available. Chips were only half cooked. If you like pizza and pasta you’ll be fine! We found lovely restaurants a very short walk away and very cheap too. We wished we had only booked bed and breakfast and save some money for the meals we ended up paying for most nights.
If we were to return to Santa Ponsa we wouldn’t choose this hotel unfortunately.

Cons:
Room too small and dark
No complimentary water or tea, coffee or milk in room - although kettle is provided!
No free nibbles included within all inclusive.
Decor needs updating in rooms and corridors.
No AC as still in ‘winter season’.
No safe unless you pay for it.
No toiletries in the bathroom only a shower gel.
Everything can be heard from your neighbours-thin walls!
Meals mostly good however you will struggle if you are a vegetarian or do not eat certain meats.
Spa not that great.
Pool water freezing.
Pros:
Staff are excellent & lovely.
Bistro dining has a good variety.
Great location can go for evening walks each night or for a drink/meal within 5mins walking distance.
Easy transport links to get to Palma
If you are expecting a four star this is mostly definitely not, although my cons list is long we have had a great holiday at an extra cost of moving to a sea view room. A double standard is not desired.

My wife and I have visited Majorca regularly over the years, but this was our first visit to Santa Ponsa. The Zafiro Rey Don Jaime is in an excellent location, just a couple of hundred metres from the beach and close to the many shops, bars and restaurants in the resort. Our room was a bit on the small side, but comfortable and clean, and, although we were on the first floor and right beside the lifts and stairs, we were never troubled by noise from inside or outside the hotel. We found all the staff at the hotel very friendly and helpful. Throughout our stay, the quality of the food in the restaurant was terrific and there was a huge variety of dishes on offer. We were staying on a "half board plus" basis, which gave us a free glass of wine (and water) with our evening meal. This was the first time we had experienced this arrangement and it would certainly encourage us to stay here again. We found plenty of space around the pool and there never seemed to be a shortage of sunbeds. We both enjoyed our stay at the hotel and would have no hesitation in recommending it to our friends and family.

Not recommended for families with young children. Not a lot to do and over 95% of the visitors were elderly people who kept complaining about noise from children! Wouldn’t go there again. The walls were so thin you could hear your neighbour snoring! There was no variety of food. Fruit juices were terrible definitely not 100%; tasted like they had been mixed with water and some artificial sweetener or something! Check in was delayed and the storage we used as we waited wasn’t secure. They give you the key to the storage no staff supervising, at some point we saw the door wide open! We approached the excursion information desk and after queuing for over 10 minutes the lady (staff) did not seem interested in helping us; told us the service was for Spanish people. We went to the receptionist who was just as shocked at the response we got and took it upon himself to help us. The hotel should just tell families that their hotel caters for elderly people we called it a retirement village in the end! Lots of entertainment for the elderly and absolutely nothing for younger families. Save for the lady mentioned above majority of staff were very lovely

Dear family, I would like to thank you for choosing Zafiro Hotels for your vacation. We also appreciate that you have spent part of your time sharing your opinion about your stay with other travelers. We do our best to keep service standards at the highest level, and it is a disappointment for us to hear that we did not succeed in your case. We try to vary the offer and quality of the buffet, adapting it to each time of the year. At this time of year there usuarlly come senior guests to stay in the hotel, who belong to a travel program for elderly people coordinated with the Spanish government. I would like to take this opportunity to mention that the person with whom you spoke to arrange the excursions works exclusively for these groups and I believe this was the reason for the misunderstanding. I am sorry you felt we did not want to help you, our front desk staff is always happy to advise on excursions and day trips. I am glad to know that despite the incident with the guide, the hotel staff provided you with a great service during your stay. We regret that at this time of year you have been disappointed and we would really appreciate another chance in the future. If you decide to do so, please contact me directly and I will personally take care that you and your family have an unforgettable stay. Sincerely, Pep Alemany Zafiro Rey don Jaime Hotel General Manager

Didn't start well. We booked two rooms and emailed the Hotel in advance to ensure rooms were next to each other and had two single beds close to lifts as mother in law and sister in law were holidaying with us. On arrival our room was fine but no water in the fridge, the other room had a double bed and the key card socket was broken so nothing worked in the room and again no water in the fridge. Went to reception who initially denied we had emailed and said no other rooms available. However when we showed them the email correspondence back and forth they suddenly were able to offer another room although moving our family from room 371 to 314 was too far really.
I think the reception staff need a bit more training as they didn't mention that there should be a bottle of water in the fridge of each room on arrival and that after use that bottle should be refilled from the water station near the bar. Usually in the Hotels we have used the cleaning staff leave water every day. Same with the pool towels and the room safe, unless you asked the specific question no information was volunteered.
However the upside was there was no deposit charge for the towels or safe.
The hotel was nice and clean overall and the buffet restaurant had plenty of choice for all of us including my wife who has Coeliac disorder. The Bistro / snack bar was a
high light offering good food choices and ultra quick service from 10 until 4.
We spent most of our time on the roof terrace where the Balinese beds and small pool complete with bar were situated. One suggestion to the Hotel would be to add a snack bar or cart so you don't have to leave to eat.
The outside pool area was also good and close to the larger bar and the Bistro / snack bar. We were able to use the Al la Carte restaurant in the evening once during our stay (free for every 7 day stay) which is actually the Bistro so again food was very good and served quickly.
Entertainment wasn't brilliant mainly tribute singers & although quite good , would have liked to see a few shows during our 10 day stay as well. The stage area is in the lounge with the larger bar at its opposite end which constantly had long que's and as you are only allowed to order two drinks each never reduced, probably need more staff although during our stay we were told the Hotel was only half full so from this month it will probably get a lot worse. Location is very good with a short walk to the beach and very close to a good selection of shops to suit all tastes..
All in all a pleasant stay but hard to ignore the small problems we encountered which were all minor in isolation but added up to a less than perfect overall experience.
