Medplaya Hotel Alba Beach garners mixed reviews, with its location near the beach and restaurants being a standout feature for guests seeking convenience. While the hotel's service receives commendation for attentive staff, some visitors have experienced less than satisfactory interactions. Cleanliness is consistently praised, specifically the meticulous upkeep of rooms and public areas.
However, the rooms themselves are often described as outdated and cramped, with guests suggesting they are in dire need of refurbishment. The hotel's amenities are appreciated, though the pool area's space constraints and sunbed availability have been points of contention.

Arrived back home from The Alba Beach hotel after a 10 stay with Jet2. We stayed in a premier room because it had a refrigerator which my wife could keep her insulin cool. The service at the hotel is first class and any reasonable requests are quickly met. The hotel is kept immaculate by an efficient cleaning staff and rooms are serviced each day. The public and reception Ares have updated and decorated which gives a good impression on arrival. Some of the hotel bedrooms are a little tired and in need of the update. The restaurant is very well run plates are quickly cleared and the evening any drinks you want are served at your table, no queuing for them at the bar. For a three star hotel the food is of a good standard and hot with the buffet being constantly refilled. The menu is different every evening some better than others depending on your choices. Breakfast offers a full English or continental (or both) as its a all you can eat set up. I was glad to find I could have lactose free milk for breakfast time but disappointed that there was no gluten free bread or options. Being both lactose and gluten intolerant does make meal times difficult. For a three star hotel it is at the top end and will be visiting again before long as it's location is excellent. Only criticism is the water pressure can be a bit hit and miss but this is a problem I have found in some other older hotels.

Just returned from our week long stay at MedPlaya Hotel Alba Beach. 21/11 to 28/11 2023 and wished we had stayed longer. Nice 3 star hotel which is spotlessly clean in all areas and rooms are cleaned every day. We upgraded our room (was only £17 each) which meant we had a fridge and a kettle with a supply of teas and coffee. Also a lovely sea view in one direction and a hillside view in the other from the sunny balcony. There was entertainment every night but we only went once to the Flamenco which was really good. Food was excellent with plenty of choice at both breakfast and dinner. Paella, chicken, fish and pork were on the menu one night so a good selection. Plenty of vegetables, salad, fresh fruit and cakes. They did have chips available every night but mainly the food was home cooked and good quality. Hotel is ideally situated just 50metres back from the seafront and the local bus stop. Buses run to Torrelominos, Fuengirola and Malaga. You can also get to Marbella if you change at Fuengirola. Currently there is 60% off bus fares so we got all the way to Malaga for 45cents (you have to buy a bus card from the Tabbaco shops for 1.80 Euro then you top it up) The seafront is nice and level if you have walking difficulties and just gets a bit hilly when you reach the Marina. Takes about 25 minutes to walk to the Marina. A ten minute walk from the hotel (uphill) opposite the big park is Selwo Marina which is a small zoopark. Well worth a visit - we watched the dolphins being trained and the parrot show wasn't them doing tricks but they were flying from one keeper to another - amazing to see them in flight. They had also placed food in the trees so the parrots were flying round to get the treats. The penquins were in an inside enclosure which was kept at Artic conditions even has a snowfall in one part of the enclosure. Plenty of other animals to see. Definitely recommend this good value hotel.

Stayed here with my partner and youngest daughter for 5 days in August. Overall I’d say it’s not a bad hotel. I did find a few minor issues with it but I’ll start with the positives: The staff are friendly and helpful and I always had pleasant interactions with the staff both at reception and in the restaurant. The food is good and there is a decent selection, unfortunately labelling isn’t always clear, which could be a problem for those with dietary requirements. There is some good entertainment on in the evening as well as a free game of bingo to win drinks. The location of the hotel is really good and just across the road from the beach. Rooms are comfortable. Now, I won’t say negatives because the hotel is a nice place but I do think there could be room for improvement. The rooms are very basic, there was no mini fridge, no drying rack on the balcony and only one bin, which is in the bathroom. Upon arrival I found toe nail clippings under my bed which was a bit off putting. Rooms were cleaned and towels repacked everyday though. Rooms are also on the small side, with the beds taking up most of the room and leaving very little space. I’d honestly say that this hotel would be better suited to a couple rather than families as it did feel quite cramped in our room. The shower in the bathroom was difficult to figure out in terms of the temperature so you were either red hot or freezing cold. The pool is also on the small side and gets very crowded at peak time. There are not a lot of loungers and towels are put on from about 7am despite the pool not opening until 11am. I’d recommend using the pool later in the day- about 2/3pm as you are more likely to find a lounger too. The restaurant is on the small side and if you go for breakfast or dinner at peak time there is often a queue. The toaster in there is also not great and takes a while to toast the bread, meaning that there are often big queues near them. Overall we did enjoy our stay here but would probably not use if travelling as a family. I would probably recommend for couples and solo travellers. Also, if you are travelling with a package holiday, the drop off point is across the main road opposite McDonalds, not a massive issue but can be difficult to cross a busy road with suitcases and small children in tow.

My Husband and myself stayed here for my surprise 60th Birthday, on arrival we were greeted kindly, I noticed that they were starting renovations which Jet advised a few days before leaving about this but said the were "minor", I was very disappointed with our room - too small, no fridge, balcony looking out to another hotel too small and dark, very outdated decor, I didn't even unpack and headed back down to reception and asked about the request that my husband had asked for per our Travel agent both of the staff looked at each other and mumbled, I was then told if we wanted a bigger room with kettle, fridge, hairdryer overlooking pool it would be an extra 20 euros per day !! this I refused to pay and stated that i would take this up when the Rep arrived, however I think that the guy on reception he said his name was "Young" understood that this was a birthday celebration and gave us a room on the 1st floor overlooking the pool with all the extra to me were basic. the "minor" repairs were uplifting flooring , painting and papering, noisy and work tools all around, they had the lounge bar closed during this, pool bar only, upstairs bar "the sunrise bar" only opens on selection season ??.. The pool area on the grass side was awful especially when raining, pool bar very slow when busy, towels on beds even though signs up to say not to reserve nothing done about it !!..we stayed half board, the food was adequate and sometime repetitive, but we found you could get something if necessary, mornings were very busy sometimes had to wait on free tables and sometimes fresh food. The Hotel in general is clean and staff are pleasant, the rooms need updated as I was informed the rooms are standard, unless you upgrade to me these were also standard. hotel is close to the beach and a pleasant walk to the marina area, yes it is at the back of McDonalds but we had no issues with this or smells. the entertainment could do with a complete clear out too very basic and who wants to play bingo every night, there are lovely bars and restaurants when you get out onto the strip, however there is a very noisy Irish bar opposite or as you come out of Hotel called Clearys, some nights there was singing republican songs which was a bit off putting as we had been in this bar during the day and it was lovely. Benalmadena overall is lovely and we would go back but I don't think we would stay at this Hotel again..

Dear Patricia: Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify a few points. It’s very important that guests are aware of what their booking includes at the time of reservation. Our hotel offers different room types, and we assign rooms based on the category that has been reserved. In this case, an upgrade option was available for an additional charge. This is why we always recommend that our guests inquire about all the room options before arriving to ensure their preferences are met. Regarding the works you mentioned, these were not renovations but routine maintenance, which did not disrupt any services for our guests. All facilities remained fully operational, and all guests were able to use them without issue. We sincerely regret that your expectations were not fully met and apologize for any inconvenience caused during your stay. Thank you for your comments, and we hope you’ll consider giving us another chance in the future. Best regards, Guest Service Manager

First of all we were in room 102 which was overlooking the area near the bar and sunbeds, you could see the pool also. The pool was rather small and there were not enough sunbeds, when i asked reception about the lack of sunbeds they just said we know...... thats when we decided to go to the beach, pay 14 euros for a comfy mattress topped sunbed, lovely and relaxing .The room was fine, clean and had everything we needed including lovely dove soap in the bathroom. The dining room was nicely laid out and the staff helpful, the food was nice and varied and plenty of it. The bacon at breakfast was fatty and not too my liking, but i know that how the spanish eat it. We were about a five/ten minute walk to the shops and the beach was across the road, which was ideal as there is a restaurant near the sunbeds, a toilet block, so easy access to everything. If you go into the sea do take care as its very sandy and if your unsteady on your feet you can easily fall over when the waves crash into you, as i found out. We walked to the mariner, now it is a bit of a walk, so if you have mobility issues i suggest a taxi. The mariner is lovely and well worth seeing. Over all we enjoyed our holiday and would go back there.. Oh the lucky, lucky men do not harass you and all you have to say is no thank you and they go away

Being blunt about it the hotel is an absolute horror show Firstly you're dropped off at a roundabout and the driver points at the hotel, smiles and drives off, that's fair enough You make your way past the industrial size bins at the back of macdonalds which are disgusting in the heat Then you're at the hotel alba beach, check in was okay and then into the lift thinking it must be a great view Got into the 1980's style room, think that's the last time it was refurbished Looked at the view from the balcony outside of the car park and more bins!!! Checked the bathroom next to find the door hit the bidet so you had to go in sort of sideways, then there was the shower over the bath( supposed to be a walk in shower) The shower curtain clung to you in the shower just after you've hit your elbow off the handrail The shower fell off the wall the first night, it was fixed quick enough to be fair No kettle or fridge in the room but were told we could get them for another €40,also asked for an upgrade to be told it would be another €160, declined the offer as we had already wasted over 2k Went down for breakfast in the morning and it was more like a works canteen with the heat of a sauna, most people sitting fanning themselves The food was awful, first time I've seen scrambled egg floating around in a tray of water, most things were similar After that we used somewhere along the front for breakfast, the girl told us she gets a lot from the alba beach because of the food, she said it had been described as faulty towers Asked for a late check out, couldn't get one, so asked about the courtesy room to be told they don't have one but if wanted to we could use the toilets to get changed etc while people coming and going Some of the female reception staff were very unhelpful and abrupt Location was good, resort was good but would we return to the alba beach hotel, not a chance, not even if it was free

Good points Excellent location, very close to the beach.
Very clean throughout.
Bar/ lounge area showing sport.
British tv channels available.
Food is plentiful.
Bad points.
Our room (facing pool/ side sea view) badly needs the bathroom updating. Room was small and cramped but the view made up for that.
Cleaner persistently removing card from slot which cuts the electricity from the room… our milk in the mini fridge went sour on more than one occasion. We are paying customers, leave the card in the slot so our fridge stays on.
Entertainment was a shambles. Staff saying it will start at 9:30pm but it would start at 9pm, or maybe not until 10pm. The music acts would finish after 40 mins and then we’re left with one staff member and a microphone orchestrating a very boring quiz… everyone leaves and goes to bed. That is feedback in itself! Have singers on the stage for an hour etc so guests can dance!
Awful air conditioner used at hotel entrance, revolting and artificial.

Just returned from a week at Alba with EasyJet. Myself, daughter and granddaughter. We had two rooms on the second floor close to restaurant with a pool view and part sea. Rooms were comfortable and clean with excellent aircon. I read someone had complained about lack of sockets. I had two either side of the bed, two more on the table and one in bathroom so quite adequate for me but obviously some rooms may be different. The rooms were cleaned thoroughly everyday and towels changed if you left them on floor. We both had a good sized balcony. As we were with a toddler we went half board. Food both at breakfast and dinner/lunch were very good with lots of choice even Yorkshire puddings if that's your thing. The bacon was the normal type you get abroad but the sausages very much like home. The pool area was clean as was the whole hotel. The staff are constantly on the go and I couldn't fault them. The main bar has a happy hour 20.00 to 21.00 when it's 2-1. The gins were very good and clearly triples which would explain the odd bad head. The entertainment was ok but not really for me but my grandaughter enjoyed it. All in all we had a good stay at the Alba and if in Benalmadena would stay again. The only downside was on the night of San Juan festival some **** pickpocketed my daughters bag and stole her purse with 90 euros. Obviously not the fault of the hotel but worth mentioning as a warning to others.

Check in was really easy, €3 a day for the safe with €10 deposit returned on check out. Hotel room was overlooking the carpark but could see both the mountains and the sea so not too bad. I found the beds uncomfy but i suppose it depends what kind of matress you like. My back really didn't like the matress as woke up in agony the 1st 3 days. Take your own pillow, pillows are long and lumpy. There was only 2 plug sockets 1 in the bedroom and 1 in the bathroom. Breakfast was good. Sausage was not hotdog type so that was a bonus. Boiled eggs, eggs, pancakes, pastries, porridge, fruits and cereal. EM was okay not a massive choice but you can change lunch and dinner if you like, the menu is put up on the notice board daily so we chose which meal by looking at the menu. Only spent 1 day at pool as we like the beach. Pool area nice. Pherhaps not enough loungers but didnt see a dash for them in the morning..pool opens 11 till 8. The bins a little down the rd that you have to pass daily are not pleasant but not the hotels fault. Some staff a little abrupt but I think its just the spanish way. Would I return no but only because I like too go to diffrent places.

Stayed in this hotel for 7 nights. Found the hotel itself quite nice, check in was really easy and the receptionist was always helpful. Our room was big enough for the 2 of us and had plenty of storage for our clothes etc. We had a nice balcony area and the air con was very much appreciated in the heat... The cleaners were in each day to freshen up the room and to change towels if needed. Our room didn't have a fridge but we were able to hire one for the duration of our stay for 40 euros.
The food was nice, warm and there were plenty of options to choose from. We stayed half board and are quite picky eaters, but we always had something to eat each day.
The pool area was never over crowded and we didn't have to race for sun beds.... The actual pool itself didn't open until the Lifeguard arrived at 11am and it closed at 8pm.
The hotel was situated across the road from the beach and was a short walk from the main strip where there were plenty of Bars, Restaurants, and shops. It took approx 30 minutes to walk right the way to the end where the Marina was situated.
Our transfer dropped us off at the roundabout across the street from the hotel, but it was a 2 minute walk (or less) in behind McDonalds to arrive at the entrance of the hotel, so this wasn't an issue at all. I noted a few complaints about the bins out the back of McDonalds and can confirm that there was no bad smell come from these bins, so do not let this put you off.
I really can't say anything bad about this hotel and its location and I'd definitely stay here again.
