Parador de Alcala de Henares

Certificate of Excellence
In the birthplace of Cervantes, where every nook and cranny oozes art and culture, stands the Parador de Alcala, a 17th-century monastery school and student lodgings located in the former San Jeronimo College. However, do not let so much history overwhelm you, because the hotel offers the perfect combination of tradition and avant-garde. The interior decor is of a modern design: tasteful, minimalist and extremely elegant. The services are without par: in addition to the standard offerings at Paradores, there is a spa, business center, convention centers and twelve conference rooms. 26 Kilometers from Madrid, 20 kilometers from Barajas International Airport and the trade fair facilities at IFEMA, and just 2 kilometers from the train station, the Parador's location in this World Heritage City is one of its main advantages.

It's a very nice parador hotel in a historic building. The rooms are beautiful and very large. Breakfast was very good. It's in a good location in the centre of town.

Apart from the fact I don't know how much was paid for the room (which I normally factor into reviews, and this

Impressed by the place, reception, car parking etc.One critism would be that the dinner waitresses were too attentive, hovering behind you as if they wanted to get rid of us and finnish early. All other staff could not do enough to help & were charming.

We’re thinking of spending 3 nights at Parador de Alcala de Henares in April. How close is the Parador to bus or train transportation into Madrid? Is it walkable?
We walked to the station in about 20minutes. The train takes you directly into the centre of Madrid, and is the best way to get there I think. Not too expensive either! We got a map from the reception at Alcala to get our bearings and checked on line as we walked, but it is pretty straight forward. The only thing to note is that the train does go to Atocha Station, but to a regional terminus just behind the main station. This is not a problem but threw us a bit in terms of getting our bearings ( the main station has a tropical garden in the middle of it - worth seeing if you have time! )Trains run regularly throughout the day.
