We were forced to stay here for the Champions League final as central Madrid hotels were ridiculously expensive. It takes 35 mins by bus to the Madrid station, then another 15 mins by metro from there to the very centre. Cost is about £5 a head. Madrid is lovely, but if. We came back we’d definitely stay in the centre. But the town of Henares is pleasant. Not great shopping, but quite a few places to eat. Negative points on the hotel: not much in the wY of toiletries for this class of hotel ( no ear buds, shower cap). No tea making facilities either. Worst was pool was closed even though it was June and VERY hot. Overall, 3 stars out of 5 feels right. A plus was that their nominated taxi service was cheaper than we paid to get to hotel.

Dear guest, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are glad to hear from you that you liked our city, Alcalá de Henares. During your stay, the solarium area with jacuzzi was open from 12 pm to 9 pm and we regret that you could not enjoy this service outside of these hours. We appreciate your comments and will share these with our team so that we can continue to improve our services. Sincerely,

Just wanted to say I enjoyed my stay and to thank Gema in reception (and her boss!) for organising the 5th floor meeting room for me at short notice on April 9th - truly fantastic service! I hope to be back at the Rafael Hotel soon

Very handy and close to the very nice village of Alcala. The welcome was OK and the rooms just fine. A little bit of noise in the morning (not a problem actually) for such an area so for those who really want absolute quietness just select the option when booking.

As we've got a toddler we opted for a suite, which was extremely spacious and quiet. The only downside was that there was no door to the bathroom so we had to make sure the TV was turned up to full volume when one of us went to the bathroom (we are English, after all). The staff were friendly and helpful although you might struggle if you don't speak Spanish (we do, so it wasn't a problem). The hotel is a ten minute walk from the lovely historic part of Alcala de Henares and the 223 bus which goes into central Madrid (Avenida de America)is a two minute walk. The train station is a ten minute walk and the trains go into Atocha and Chamartin stations in Madrid. The breakfast had an excellent selection of fruit. It also had a selection of cheeses, pastries, bread, yogurts and cereals all of which were good. There was hot food which I can't comment on as I never touch hot food in buffet breakfasts. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay.

The location is not bad at all - within 15 minutes you are in the town of Alcala De Henares with all its shops, restaurants and various sights to see. As well as a supermarket literally a 2 min walk down the road - very useful as the rooms do not provide water bottles. The reception staff and polite but the restaurant staff seemed to be quite stressed at breakfast, lunch and dinner! The food in the hotel is nice but not particularly hot when it comes out, more like luke warm so that spoils it somewhat. There is a very small bar in the reception area but it's in the reception area so it feel like you're sitting at reception with everyone watching you drink rather than comfortable in a bar. The rooms are clean and towels are changed daily. I had a twin room and to be honest there was more space given to the desk and chair than to the bedroom part of the room. No complaints about the bathroom which includes amenities and fluffy white towels. Conference facilities are good including the tea & coffee breaks with snacks and sweets. No gym facilities to my knowledge.
