When the UK opened the travel corridors I booked flights to Athens using Avios then googled ‘best beaches in Athens’ and Sounion popped up. Aegeon Beach is pretty much the only hotel there and I’m glad I made the choice to stay there. It’s about 35 minutes South of the airport in a taxi.

While the physical hotel is an older building it has a much more modern Interior. The hotel staff could not be friendlier! The front desk staff were always smiling, helpful and remembered our room number which is always a sign of good service.

There is not much to do in the vicinity of the hotel except from the beach and two local beach front tavernas to eat and drink in. The hotel also has a beach bar and a restaurant. The Temple of Poseidon is about a 10 minute walk up the hill. Do not stay here if you want anything else other than down time to relax!
The hotel faces West so make sure you get a sea view room so that you have the best view for the sunset!

The hotel was always super clean and given the current climate with COVID, all precautions were being taken. We even saw a man with a tape measure measuring the distance between the tables in the restaurant!

I would, in fact hope, that I can stay again because it really did a great job at helping me unwind and relax.

One thing that is not mentioned anywhere is that although the beach is public and gets very busy, particularly at weekends, the hotel has private loungers, probably enough for all guests, which are set back from the beach on small decked cabanas. We didn’t struggle to find a bed even on a busy Saturday afternoon! The beach was always clean thanks to the team that patrol constantly picking up litter and emptying the bins.

As other reviews have mentioned this hotel is located in an absolutely perfect spot for a relaxing beach break. The beach and water in the bay is super clean and swimming is a joy as the depth of the water shelves gently. There is no pool, but honesty none is needed.

There are two restaurants within walking distance as well as the restaurant in the Hotel. All of them are good.

The temple of Poseidon is a short walk up the hill and we loved visiting it and watching the sunset from the temple.

We visited in early October for 3 days. It was cooler in the evenings and the mornings at this time as there are quite strong and cool winds from the north. But on the hotel loungers in the afternoon the wind is blocked out and the sun is still strong enough to allow for sunbathing. The sea temperature was perfect. We were wishing we had brought some fleece hoodies with us though for the evening.

There is not much to do in the hotel or surrounding area other than the temple, restaurants and a bar in the hotel. At this time of year it was very quiet and relaxing. There is no nightlife nearby which didn’t bother us.

The Hotel is built so most rooms face west and therefore get an amazing view of the bay and the sunset. The rooms are clean, our room had a safe and a mini fridge. The bathroom had a shower with good pressure and the room had good air conditioning with a simple control panel. We had a balcony overlooking the bay.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would unhesitatingly recommend this Hotel and Beach for a short break or extended downtime holiday. There is none closer to the Temple of Poseidon or better situated on a beach in the surrounding area.

Lovely hotel, very comfortable, quiet and clean in a great location. The rooms are designed with quality comfortable furnitures and beds too. Wi-fi is fast. The beach is very clean. All safety measures are observed as well as the necessary distances. Staff made us feel safe because always they were masks and gloves. The view of the template of Poseidon is priceless. The staff were very polite, approachable, helpful and professionals. Breakfast was excellent and suited all tastes . Aegean Restaurant and the Aegean tavern close to the beach have amazingly tasteful food but the most important is that prices are down to earth.

We would highly recommend a stay at this hotel!

This hotel is a very serious option for a couple of nights, especially if you intend to go on a cruise from the nearby town of Lavrio. For a longer stay, you would need your own transportation, as the hotel is a bit off the beaten track, or rather off the main road, making it pretty quiet for a prime beach location.

On the other hand, apart from the Temple, nothing is within walking distance with the exception of two rather uninspired tavernas. Food at the hotel is much better, as well at the snack bar as in the main restaurant. Very fine wine list, excellent service, gourmet cooking at reasonable prices. Curiously the design of the main dining room as more Scandinavian than Greek.

Would not stay there for two weeks, but I highly recommend this place for a few days.

We went during August of 2020 – so the Covid-19 restrictions were in place, and throughout the entire holiday all the staff members adhered to the safety precautions perfectly, with masks and gloves being worn by all, and hand washing/sanitising a constant theme, so very well done for that, guys, it’s clear you take the safety of the guests very seriously.
When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by one of the two ever-smiling Georgia’s that work on reception who checked us in quickly and efficiently. We made our way to the restaurant and decided to grab a quick bite to eat where we were greeted by Andreas - another very smiley staff member (a common theme for the entire holiday!) – who gave us a little talk about the hotel, where things were, meal times etc, and even told us about the surrounding area as we had said we wanted to go for a long walk at some stage and do some exploring.
Vaya and Efie work in the bar and are honestly two of the most perfect bar staff we have met in ANY country! They immediately greeted us and welcomed us to the hotel and proceeded to make us some amazing cocktails. We would find out that these two have the best sense of humour and were absolutely crazy…but in the best possible way Haha! They even invented with a cocktail for us called an “Oh My God” (in the photos) so if you ever go there, ask them for it – it’s amazing haha
The hotel’s food is truly outstanding, and Vaios and Stathis who work there are friendly, and personable, and always recommended a different special that was on – thanks guys!
Before this turns into a biography of the hotel(!) I’ll just say a huge THANK YOU to Georgia 1, Georgia 2, Andreas, Stathis, Vaios, Vaya, and Efie once again. You have no idea how special you made our holiday, from literally start to finish we couldn’t have asked for better. Mr George, you run an absolutely fantastic place there, and you can be assured we’ll tell everyone we know about it, and of course…see you all next year!!

Needing to escape the chaos and heat of Athens for a quick getaway, we decided to make the short 45 minute drive from our home in Athens to the Aegeon Hotel in Cape Sounio and we are so happy we did. We often have long weekends during the summer at hotels throughout Greece, but this time we decided to stay more local and although we normally stay at the neighboring Grecotel Cape Sounio, it was purely by chance that we ended up at the Aegeon Hotel.

Although the two hotels are very different with the Aegeon being the less luxurious, the Aegeon was actually pretty perfect. While the hotel does not have a pool, it really didn’t matter because we came for the beach and the beach is FAR better than at the other property. The rooms were perfectly comfortable and fully updated, the staff was wonderful and friendly and although weekends can be very chaotic with many people coming for the day, we were able to have our own space in the cabana area reserved for hotel guests. Once the weekend was over, it was like we had the beach to ourselves, so if you have the ability to come during the week instead, that would definitely be recommended.
Even with the crowds from the weekend and the fact that they open the beach to anyone, I really don’t have any complaints.

Special thanks to Sofia in reservations for getting us set up. We will definitely be calling you soon for our next visit, which may even be this coming week.

We were delighted to finish our almost 4 week trip to Greece staying in the Presidential Suite in Sounio. Georgia and Sofia had been wonderful in assisting me with date changes after we had to cancel our planned trip to Greece twice due to Covid travel restrictions. The hotel is truly in a gorgeous location on the beach and below the Temple of Poseidon. The Presidential Suite had just incredible views of the Temple both during the day and at night when it was lit up. We were so happy just to sit on the balcony listening to the waves lapping on the beach and take photo after photo and watch the sun set out over the water. There are several small water front restaurants right next to the hotel property, providing tasty food and lovely atmosphere - this was a wonderful way to finish our trip but the piece d'resistance was truly the views from the Presidential Suite - well worth the splurge.

This 70s/80s (?) hotel is built on the ancient harbor site of Sounion so it has terrific views out to sea and up to the temple of Poseidon. The good ends there: it's a dated and slightly grubby block built beach hotel in need of a full makeover that presumably thrives on the package holiday trade. Rooms on the eastern end are over the kitchen and its attendant noises and smells. There are better options though the parking lot is large and reasonably secure if you're driving a big vehicle

I LOVE this hotel! Its fuss free interiors complement its beautiful and soul nourishing location.
I had SPECTACULAR views of the ocean and Temple of Poseidon from my room/balcony and enjoyed further wonderful views at the indoor/outdoor eating areas.
Breakfast was a buffet delight ( you can’t fault it’s quality or variety) with specialist coffees upon request included!!
The restaurant food was always delicious and my room was continuously spotless.
The staff were friendly, happy and extremely helpful… I could not have asked for a better team and they made my stay extremely pleasant and easy.
IF you get bored of the beautiful views, the yellow sand crystal clear beach at your feet, the short climb to the temple of Poseidon, the wonderful cafe at the temple, the fresh air, starry nights, magnificent sunsets and sunrises, then you can take a trip to nearby Lavrio for a local busy “fix” or visit other tourist sites nearby like the ancient mines/ Thorikos Theatre but I personally, couldn’t get enough of this awe inspiring hotel and soaked up all its majesty while I could.
