Located in the Heart of the Maya World, minutes away from the magnificent Tikal, Uaxactún and Yaxhá ruins. You can experience the richness of the jungle at its best in LAS LAGUNAS BOUTIQUE HOTEL. My wife and I spent 4 nights here in December for our 2 year wedding anniversary and it was in a word...outstanding! The service was amazing, from the tropical drink at check-in to the staff all knowing our names, Shout out to Elmer, Victor, Juan and the lovely young lady who's name escapes me at the moment. The property is gorgeous and the free monkey island boat tour is an absolute must! Food was excellent and the decor was stunning. Las Lagunas is everything you could imagine and more.

First the cons, to get them out of the way. You can’t swim in the lake, because of crocodiles. If you want to wild-swim off your deck, this isn’t the place. Getting into town (Flores) is expensive in cabs organised by the hotel. Factor that in if you want to potter around town a lot. Or just stay in a hotel in Flores proper if that’s important. It wasn’t important to us and knowing the transport is safe was more important than a cheap cab. A small gripe is that if you book for three people on a booking app, the bungalow only sleeps two and you need to pay for an additional bed for the third. They are up front about it, but it would be better to have it as part of the price for three people. The pros, however, massively outweigh the cons. I think this may be my favourite hotel of all time. Despite the tiny cons above! The staff are all delightful. Jose, Alex, Mynor and Elmer in the dining room. They remember your name, your preferences and want you to have what you prefer. So far, so good, and expected at a luxury hotel. But they are also funny, and kind, and spend time explaining things. They are excited about their language, culture and country. And help with little things. For example, it was very hot when we were there and I said something about the tour we were going on. Alex made sure there were cold towels in the cooler the next day. Life-saver! The reception staff are also lovely; Kendal and Cesar were always helpful (as was the other female staff member whose name I didn’t get!). The housekeeping staff were lovely. The room was spotless and free of wildlife, something that’s quite hard to achieve in the tropics. Toiletries were topped up, the place was immaculate and on the days ‘off’ when we were hanging around, they worked around our schedule. The chefs are working in a kitchen in the almost 40 degree heat and 70% humidity producing delicious food. I have no idea how they do it. Nice mix of Guatemalan and other food. You could even take a picky eater! Every person gardening or cleaning or painting said hola and wished us a good day when we passed and said hola. Just lovely, warm people. The room is lovely but also cleverly designed. Air conditioned main space with the bed, sinks, desk etc. Your living space can be cool and separate. Then there’s a sort of sun room with the hot tub, sofa and table. Great for the hot tub not disturbing the cool, fresh air in the main area. Also lovely if you’re the first up for coffee and to watch the sun come up over the water. And for evenings. Then a small balcony with sliding doors. This can be opened into the sun room for fresh breezes. The hot tub is next to a door into the shower or you can enter the shower from the main area. Toilet is not air conditioned and has a mesh screen for fresh, bug-free air. The beds are comfy, the linens are nice, the furniture is good, lots of natural wood and everything works. Plenty of sockets and other amenities. The pool is great. It’s cool and partially shaded which is lovely to cool off. It looks over the lake and the views are delightful. There are loungers and other places to sit in the shade and the sun. The museum is wonderful, particularly the pottery. Really interesting! The hotel is so close to the airport while seeming a million miles away in the jungle. It manages to be idyllically remote-seeming, while actually having everything you need close at hand. Probably the best part of the trip was the tours. We did the Peten Itzá tour, Tikal at sunrise, and Yaxha at sunset. Our guide for all three was Cesar. The tours aren’t cheap so you expect, and get, a lot. Boxed lunches or breakfasts, a cooler of drinks, a guide who knows about the ruins, good, safe transport, personal service. That isn’t a surprise, although it’s nice. What makes it exceptional, and this is one of the reasons Las Lagunas is special, is the small, subtle things that take it to another level. Cesar quickly worked out what things made us happy and what things we were especially interested in. I’m not particularly fit or good in the heat. So he took us up the gentler slopes, the easier routes. He paced it so we could do the most, with the least pain! What was really lovely was him sharing his culture and love of what makes Guatemala special. The history, culture, language, plants, animals, people are magical and learning about them was wonderful. We love animals and without Cesar pointing things out (sometimes it took us a while to see things!) we wouldn’t have seen toucans, coatis, quinine and so many other things. Genuine passion for the place, tailored to the audience, is what makes for a really good tour guide. Cesar has those qualities in spades. He’s also very funny. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him as a guide to anyone wanting to see more of Guatemala. I’d recommend this place to anyone wanting a relaxing break. Or a base for the Mayan World. Or a fun family vacation. It was a wonderful place to spend a few days.

I recently spent 4 nights at Las Lagunas with my husband and 2 kids (aged 8 and 10) along with my aunt and uncle. This was our final stop of our 2 week vacation in Guatemala after visiting Antigua and Lake Atitlan and it was exactly what we needed. From beginning to end this was such a lovely experience and I can't speak highly enough about the level of service and staff. The service was impeccable!!!! Special shout out to Elmer and Alex who often took care of us at breakfast and dinner. They remembered everyone's names...our usual orders...and went above and beyond to ensure we had an amazing stay. The amenities are clean and spacious and the jacuzzi was an added bonus my kids loved. The pool was glorious and there were balls and floats for the kids to enjoy. My husband...who is a coffee connoisseur..also loved the coffee station set up each morning. He is a early riser and appreciated the ability to enjoy his coffee while reading on the deck. The monkey island tour was enjoyed by all. Thanks for the most amazing time! If we are ever in Guatemala again we will most definitely be back.

If I could, I'd give this hotel even more than five stars. It is luxurious without being stuffy or over-the-top. I felt comfortable and welcome. The small size of the hotel makes it feel very intimate and quiet. Each room is a small, very thoughtfully designed luxury cabin on stilts overlooking the lake or lagoon, with glass walls facing the water. The decor is rustic and upscale. Our room was spotless, elegant, and comfortable, with a modern shower room, hot tub overlooking the lagoon, sitting area, desk, and king-sized bed. The wood gleamed. The prices in the restaurant weren't outrageous and the food was excellent. In addition, the servers were outstanding--friendly and full of tips to maximize our stay. The view from the restaurant further enhances the experience with a full wall open to a stunning view of the lake. The pool area is gorgeous with an infinity pool overlooking the lake and big chunky, cushy couches, chairs and lounge chairs. Sometimes howler monkeys and spider monkeys swing by for a brief visit. A small but impressive museum is housed at the hotel with artifacts from Mayan and other indigenous cultures across Guatemala. As if this weren't enough, the hotel provides a daily boat tour at 10am to two small islands for spider monkeys that can't survive in the wild on their own. The crew feed the monkeys vegetables and bananas. One female, Margarita, is permitted to come onto the boat. She's very well-behaved and sat next to us while she visited. We loved the experience so much, we did it twice. We opted to visit Tikal and Yaxha from a hotel located at Tikal National Park prior to our stay at Las Lagunas. That worked out well because it gave us more time to stay on the property at Las Lagunas. Our bungalow was so gorgeous, we joked about selling our house and possessions to move in permanently. To stay at such a unique and beautiful hotel would easily cost two to three times as much in the US.

We had a wonderful stay on a short trip to explore the Mayan ruins. I contacted the hotel several times before arrival to provide flight information, book tours, arrange a snack and wine for the room, and ask a few questions. They always replied quickly, and everything went as planned. The airport pick up was much appreciated after a long travel day. The room was a peaceful retreat: beautiful lagoon view, comfortable bed, jacuzzi, double sinks and huge shower, large TV, mini fridge, coffee and bottled water replenished daily. We went on two sunset tours: Tikal and Yaxha, and hung out at the pool and room one day. The museum had an incredible collection of Mayan artifacts and jewelry. The hotel and tour staff were friendly and helpful - especially Elmer in the restaurant. We highly recommend the hotel!

Beautiful Boutique Hotel with all bungalows partly on stilts over the water, with views to a beautiful quiet lake, filled with nature. Great food, service, massages, boat tour to see the monkeys, amazing Mayan museum, great restaurant and above all caring and fabulous staff. Van rides (for a fee) to where you need to go. The wine list was great, delicious chilean wines as other international wines. This hotel in any other country would cost 3 times as much!!

We loved our experience at Las Lagunas. It is on the water outside of Flores on the way to Tikal. The rooms, food and service were all excellent. Our waiters, Elmer and Victor, were both attentive and friendly. We enjoyed the boat trip to see the monkeys who climbed in the boat with us. The museum was another highlight.

This place is really magical and one of the best we stayed at after two weeks of travel in Guatemala. The restaurant staff is especially thoughtful (Elmer made us decaf coffee for our 5:45 am departure!). Free monkey boat tour is highly rated for a reason. And the rooms are nicely decorated with lagoon views that can’t be beat. We will be recommending this place to everyone we know (and like :)

We absolutely loved our stay at this special hotel. We chose it as a base to visit Tikal but we were glad to also have time to relax here. The Waterfront Suite is spacious and comfortable and watching the birds and sunset across the lagoon from the hot tub was amazing. The restaurant is also in a fabulous spot and the food is great. Highly recommend a stay here.
