Located in the Heart of the Maya World, minutes away from the magnificent Tikal, Uaxactún and Yaxhá ruins. You can experience the richness of the jungle at its best in LAS LAGUNAS BOUTIQUE HOTEL. Inspired by a Guatemalan visionary businessman who explored for 30 years the undomesticated rainforest of Peten, the property combines 300 acres of land, the comfort of a Boutique Hotel with its Private Reserve, two Monkey Islands, a complete Spa and an incredible museum!

What an amazing and special place! I wish we could have stayed there longer than 3 days. We were on a trip through Guatemala and chose it as our pied-à-terre for our visits of Tikal and Yaxhá. Our room was fantastic, it was right above the lake with a wonderful view. We found everyone from the service team very friendly, helpful and competent, especially Victor. Don’t miss to visit the museum, although quite small it is world class! And absolutely do the boat trip to monkey island. I can highly recommend it - would love to go back.

My girlfriend and I traveled for a five night stay the first week of March. This was our second visit to Las Lagunas, we had stayed for eight nights in May of 2017. I’m happy to report that the hotel is still as special after six years! We had arranged airport pick up and drop off in advance with the hotel and they were waiting for us when we exited the airport. It’s about a fifteen to twenty minute drive from the airport to the hotel. We requested the same room we had stayed in previously, room 14, Waterfront Master Suite King. The room was as wonderful and pristine as the first stay. The room is huge with an additional deck that is enclosed in glass and has a jacuzzi - the nicest we have ever had at any resort we have stayed where this is offered. The shower is out of this world - modern with double jets. The view of the lagoon from the enclosed deck was spectacular. We were directly across from one of the islands that contains the monkeys, we also watched spectacular sunsets from the deck. We were able to hear the howler monkeys off in the distance each morning and night. Wifi throughout the hotel was excellent. The grounds are well kept and feature a walking trail. We also took the pontoon boat to monkey island and enjoyed the trip and the monkeys. The main pool area has lounges and tables and is located at the bottom of the steps leading to the main building, part of the area is undercover. You are able to enjoy beverages and meals in the pool area. The infinity themed pool is designed to blend into the property so it is not too deep and shaped in a half circle which allows for nice views of the lake. Unlike almost all other pools, the tiles are green and not blue and blend into the scenery. Breakfast was included in our room rate. Both lunch and dinner were also wonderful. Excellent food and service by the entire staff. You cannot go wrong and you will love it. As we have traveled to Tikal several times in the past, on this trip we chose to go instead on a tour, with driver and guide arranged by the Hotel, to Uaxactun. You enter Tikal Park and then continue on to this site which is over a long bumpy road. If you enjoy visiting Mayan ruins as we do, then it is worth your visit. The site is located around a very small Mayan village. Note that there are no restaurants nor tourist shops in the village. A boxed lunch was provided for us by the hotel. We also chose to visit Yaxha for a second time. For this trip we requested that the Hotel arrange for a driver only to take us there as we wanted this time to walk around on our own without a guide. The driver took us to the park, and waited for us. We spent around two and a half hours walking the site, ( we should have requested three hours). The driver had also arranged for us to have lunch at “Portal de Yax-Ha Restaurant.” As it was high season we made the tour requests prior to our arrival and everything was booked as we requested. We have traveled extensively in Central America and this place is at the top of the list for service and amenities. The entire staff was exceptional. It was great to know that the place was still as special given the time in between our stays. We enjoyed every moment of our second stay at this wonderful property!!!

Dear Steven & Valerie, Thank you so much for your time in leaving us such an excellent review. It has been a pleasure to have you back. I shared your comment with the team and we had goosebumps reading your words. Since the beginning, Las Lagunas goal has always been to make our guests stay as "feel like home" as possible. Just reading that we have achieved such consistency over the years, makes me personally very proud of every single member of my team. Again thank you so much for your time and words, and for letting us know that we are on the right path. We hope to have you back very soon!! Kind regards from all of us!!!

Stunning hotel a 15 minute drive from Flores and the airport, Las Lagunas is one of the best hotels I have stayed at. Our room had a large hot tub overlooking the lagoon and was large and very comfortable. TV included Netflix. The staff were very helpful and organised a fantastic guide (Luis) for a trip to Tikal. They have a daily boat trip to the lake to see the monkeys one of whom was encouraged onto the boat. The pool is chilly and not big enough to swim in but good for kids and cooling off. Breakfast was excellent and we also had a good dinner there one night. Also do not miss their own museum which is well worth seeing. Getting taxis in Flores is difficult and whilst the hotel organised a car to go there and come back this is expensive. My only quibble is that the hot tub had a mind of its own and went on of its own accord in the middle of the night.

Response from Michael Muller, General Manager at Las Lagunas Boutique Hotel
Responded Feb 15, 2023
Dear Guest, Thank you so much for your comment!!! We appreciate the time taken to leave us your impressions of our property and love to read that we fulfilled your expectations. Las Lagunas is secluded in the middle of the jungle, unfortunately, the closest taxi depot is in Flores, which is the main reason why it is a bit expensive to get there. Taxis have to drive empty to the hotel, pick up the guests, drive back to Flores, come back to the hotel to leave the guests, and drive back empty to Flores. Altogether it is 60 km. (38 miles) service for aprox US$50.00. We have tried to find other ways to get our guests to Flores, but we do not want to compromise the pristine condition of the vehicles we are hiring now for something that is maybe cheaper but not as safe. I hope all this makes a little bit of sense and explains the main reason why a 15-minute ride costs that much. Thank you again for your comment and we hope to have you back very soon!!! Best regards from all the Las Lagunas Staff

Extremely poor customer service. We booked our stay one month in advance and they did not arrange any of the excursions we had booked. They forgot to book our airport transport and tour to Tikal (which is the sole reason why we came here). When we turned up, they randomly booked us a non English speaking guide when they knew we specifically asked for an English speaking guide. In addition, they charged us an extra 25% on the rate agreed to over the phone without flagging or telling us that. Property is nice but customer service is horrific and not worthy of the quality you’d expect for a “5 star” hotel

Response from Michael Muller, Director General at Las Lagunas Boutique Hotel
Responded Jan 18, 2023
Dear Sandy, First of all, I want to give you my most sincere apologies for the service and experience we have given you, this is not our philosophy of guest service at all. Nevertheless, I have been researching a bit your case. On December 13th at 4:52 pm, our front desk manager wrote you an email asking you for your flight details, and you never answered that mail. We know that you received the mail because, on your checkout day, it was the mail you used to let us know that you left us a bad review, to kind of "teach us a lesson". The front desk after not receiving any further answers from you just canceled the Tikal tour, and your shuttle from the airport to the hotel, thinking you would not show up and avoiding any penalties this could have incurred, this was a huge mistake on our part, because we should have tried to get in touch with you again and don´t trust an unanswered email. Once you arrived at the hotel we tried to fix things as quickly as possible, but it was already too late, January is part of the high season in Guatemala and guides are not available on such short notice, we tried to find a guide who at least spoke a little bit of English. The 25% extra charge is because the archeological park, driver, and guides charge you a bit more for the sunset tour at Tikal, which you requested, the hotel has no benefit on that. Nevertheless, we also accept that we probably should have not charged you that amount, even believing that the whole matter was not 100% our fault. I will not ask Trip Advisor to remove this comment because I truly believe that you are right in some aspects of what happened, but I also believe in a world of correctness and fairness, and leaving all the guilt on us is not correct, complaining that everything is expensive and afterward havening fun teasing us with letting us know about your intentions of harming us is just not fair. I wish I could make this up to you and demonstrate that even though we are not perfect, we put all our effort every day to give all our guests the best experience they could get and that we work to be as perfect as possible, and most comments support that. Best regards from all our staff and myself.

We stayed here for 5 nights during late November and enjoyed the stay. Situated on a lagoon about 15 minutes away from the airport and from Flores town, this property has a beautiful swimming pool, spa, and a good restaurant. We booked the sunrise tour at Tikal for day 1 (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED), a tour of Yaxha on day 2 combined with a lunch stop in Flores, Monkey Island and Romantic dinner day 3, and Arcas and Flores on Day 4. For your tours, ask for Louis, who played a part briefly on the TV show Survivor Guatemala. Victor, Elmer, and Alex were stars of the dining room and bar service team - thank you all! They were always willing to offer spanish lessons and share ideas about places to go and see in the area. When leaving the airport you will very quickly find a Lychee stand on the road to the hotel. Stop for a minute and pick up some fresh Lychee nuts. Suggest you make visits to Flores to vary up the food and drinks, where the cost will be less than 50% of the cost of the hotel (well worth the taxi into town). Breakfast and Dinner at the hotel were the same menu every day with the "special" at dinner always being the local whitefish fillet. Management and chef should upgrade the menu to be less "American Resort" food like smoked salmon and mussels imported from Vietnam and include more varieties of local Guatemalan food (and perhaps an onsite cooking class?). Restaurant should have more options available like whole whitefish and leverage more local ingredients like Lychee, fresh Avocado, etc. Disappointing that several items including lamb and veal chops on the menu (although they could be sourced locally) were never available. Lots of chefs in the kitchen - make them work!

Dear Keith, We want to thank you for taking the time to comment and letting us know about your impressions. We love to read that you experienced Petén in such a great way and will consider your recommendations. Importing many products into Guatemala has been a challenge since the pandemic and prices of many things have skyrocketed. Most of our ingredients are local and the ones that do not fulfill our standards we need to import, and meat is one of them. Petén is pretty far away from the city where you can buy a huge amount of different products, but they would never survive the trip to Petén, all this makes the whole menu design a real headache. Nevertheless, we do offer many typical Guatemalan dishes and those have local ingredients, also some none Guatemalan dishes, like our smoked salmon, are marinated with Peppercorns and leaves from the trees that grow all around the jungle. This should not be an excuse we do understand your point, and we will try to improve in every aspect we possibly can. Thank you so much for every tip you gave us. We hope to have you back at some point in the future and have the chance to surprise you with some new culinary delicatessen!!! ;) Best regards from all our team!!!

Our group of 15 travelers arrived at night to this lovely resort, and were welcomed by the staff with fruit drinks in the gracious common room overlooking the lake and the pool below. A full moon shone in the window as we had a late dinner beautifully presented by the staff. We managed to visit the small museum that is on the grounds before gratefully having a hot shower and slipping into the very comfortable beds. Some of us rose to the see the magnificent sunrise, swim in the pool, have breakfast before embarking on a boat trip to visit the 2 islands that shelter spider monkey reserves. one gal named Marguerite was very friendly and swung onto the boat happily eating the vegetables handed out by the boatman. We would have loved to linger another night at this secluded location, but they had a wedding party arriving, so we had to move on to our next destination of Tikal. I would like suggest to the management that a cooler with purified water be made available in the common room for access to the guests. I was uncomfortable asking the staff to fill my water bottle for me; I thought that it was an unnecessary imposition on their time.

I appreciate brevity, so here’s why we loved starting at Las Lagunas: (1) Conveniently located near the City of Flores and Flores airport, and only a short 45 minute drive to the extraordinary Tikal; (2) The food, ambiance, and grounds are exceptional. (3) Staff was pleasant and attentive. And our poor Spanish wasn’t an issue since most staff could speak English and Spanish fluently. (4) Best pool I’ve ever seen at a boutique hotel (by a long shot). (5) Room was excellent. Spacious and updated with excellent views. (6) Tons of wildlife on property, but never felt unsafe, just entertained. Only issue was room service. Took a bit longer than you’d expect. But that wasn’t enough to drop our review from 5 to 4 stars. Can’t wait to go back.

I give 3 as an average between 5+ for the location and 1- for the service. The place is really special, in the jungle and on the lakeshore. Trying to get back my laundry before going to sleep has been an full time job for some time. The restaurant was practically empty, it took 50 minutes to get a tenderloin and the next ten minutes to get two French fries portions. As I protested very strongly the management, the morning after, did not charge me for the dinner. But the romantic dinner with my girlfriend was already gone down the drain.

I can't tell you if it is or isn't as we only stayed in one other hotel in Guatemala, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is. This place is beautiful. You have a large bungalow all to yourself with a view of the lake. Each room has a hot tub on the deck even though it was so hot that we stayed in the nicely air conditioned room. But as nice as the rooms are, it is the service that makes Las Lagunas stand out. As others have mentioned, Elmer distinguished himself by providing excellent service during meals. My wife and I just enjoyed talking to him. Oh, and did I say the meals were delicious? My only disappointment is that we only stayed one night before moving on.
