If you are heading out to Big Bend Nat'l Park, please put a stop at the Gage Hotel on your list. My 2nd time to stay here and this time we stayed in the main part of the hotel. So cool! You still get a real room key. :-) The room was very pretty, comfy and roomy. The bathroom was... More

There isn't much to see in Marathon but the Gage makes it worth the trip if you're heading out to this area. It is truly an oasis in the middle of nowhere, which is perfect if you're trying to escape the city life for a couple of nights. We stayed in the main building which offers much tighter quarters than... More

Love this hotel stay at the pueblo style casitas. Beautiful gardens, pool, food, environment, however, the mattress is inflexible and hard like a morgue slab. Need to replace the king size mattress. Same rep must have sold at the Holland hotel also in Alpine. So sad, our backs were hurting when woke up and we don't have back issues. Our... More

This was our second stay at the Gage, and just as enjoyable as the first. We stayed in one of the Portales, and our friend had a room in the hotel. All of us were very pleased with the accommodations. We had our room key stuck in the lock and had to call the front desk during the busy check-in... More

After recommendations from several couples who have visited, my wife and I spent our anniversary trip at the Gage this week. Not sure what I expected; but, it was a wonderful break from the real world. The first two nights we were in room #9 a second floor (no elevator) large king with a substantial bath. Quite comfortable - heard... More

We booked two dates at the Gage Hotel to bookend our trip to Big Bend National Park. Recommended to us as an oasis, we were not disappointed. Lovely hotel and grounds, thoughtfully maintained, clean comfortable rooms, friendly and helpful staff. We stayed in the Los Portales section. Yes you hear the trains, we did not mind. The room had a... More

This is an authentically historic hotel in the unlikely town of Marathon, Texas, not far from the Big Bend National park. It is inviting within, has a genuine period feel but with comfortable rooms, and, AND to my surprise, one of the best restaurants in Texas. I have never eaten venison better prepared.

Great hotel. Room and restaurant were wonderful. Staff was attentive as well. Look forward to staying there again. Suggest visiting the park to the south and riding along the Rio Grand river. All in all a wonderful trip that will be repeated.

Our motorcycle riding group stopped here because some of our group had been here before and absolutely raved about it. They were right and I'm glad we made the stop. We were only "looking around" and the hotel front desk made us feel very welcome and offered water and told us to feel free to browse through the hotel. The... More

Stayed here for the second time, the first being several years ago, and this is just a great hotel and resort in every regard. We stayed in one of the Texas-decorated casitas - nicely laid out, good Texas-country feel, very comfortable. Nice courtyard in the middle of all the casitas well set up for all to gather for wine and... More
