I reserved an Easter Buffett three weeks before traveling to Lubbock to visit my Tech student Easter Weekend. They called me on Friday before Easter to let me know that my online reservations were not available even though the website suggested so. It is too late to reserve anywhere else, and the service manager could care less. I have had a room reservation that was somehow lost years ago, but had no idea this was part of the business model. If you have a reservation there, have a back up because they clearly don’t care about your plans.
We stayed here for two nights during a very busy weekend in Lubbock. The staff was attentive and the service was great. When we went home my daughter left her backpack in our room with some of her sports gear in it. I called later that evening. By morning they had located the backpack and mailed it to home to me that same day. I really appreciate the extra help and the staff going out of their way to make sure our backpack made it home!!
We arrived as a group of 4 on a Thursday evening to check in. Hotel was fully booked and our rooms were not yet available as the cleaning crew were overwhelmed turning rooms over. Desarae Z and another lobby staff member was courteous and apologized for the delay, stored our luggage and gave us complimentary drink vouchers for us to enjoy at the hotel bar as we waited. Desarae continued to give us updates every 30 minutes. Not sure how she coped to keep a professional and positive demeanor as we witnessed many customers yelling and rude when it was obvious all hotel staff were doing their best. The complimentary drinks made the time fly!!! Thanks Desarae for the great service!!!
Had a big group after TT basketball game. Overton has a great vibe always. Just a good place always. Service on a Sat nite was great. We had a big group out on patio and service was gold and place had a lot of energy
Overpriced and underperformed. Have 3 elevators, 1 of which was working. Packed into elevator like a sardine - not cool with Covid.Had to find someone to seat us for breakfast. Then we were ignored. No coffee, etc. We just left - so typical of our Overton “experience”.Save yourself some frustration, stay somewhere else.
Great experience from check-in to check-out. We were greeted by every staff member we encountered. The service was quick and efficient despite the fact that the hotel was packed for a home game weekend. Although our room's furniture was a bit worn, the room itself was spotless. The room had everything you might need from a mini-fridge to an iron/board. And unlike other hotels, they provide extra towels...and replace them daily! The location could not be better. One block (easy walk) to Texas Tech's Jones AT&T Stadium. Within a short walking distance to well over a dozen restaurants and bars. And a short 5 minute drive to downtown. And perhaps the greatest perk is the free parking for guests. Totally worth it on game days. Overall...I loved this hotel. Will stay here again!
We visited our daughter at Tech and decided to give the Overton a try. Downstairs is nice. Great atmosphere at the bar and outdoor area. The room was less than favorable. The AC in the room never got below 77 degrees despite a call to the front desk for service. Our daughter went back to her dorm because it was so hot! The ceiling in the bathroom was cracked/molded, towels were torn and the sink clogged up. Expected more from the official hotel of Texas Tech Athletics…Love the Lubbock area but won’t be back to this hotel.
This hotel, in a good location, could use a bit of an overhaul. The rooms and public areas are looking just a bit the worse for wear. During our visit the restaurant was not open, which had not been made clear when we checked in.. However, the staff in all areas of the hotel were so friendly and accommodating that we felt very well cared for and welcome, and everyone we encountered bent over backwards to compensate for any shortcomings. The breakfast buffet was extremely well presented and tasty and the food that was available in the bar area in the early evening made up for the restaurant closure.
I have been meaning to write this review for awhile. My husband and I are Texas Tech alumni. Our son graduated from there last May. We have been staying at the Overton for every one of our trips to Lubbock. You can not beat the location. The staff there are very accommodating. I love when we arrive the front desk greets us with a smile and always welcomes us back. The rooms are clean and the food and drinks are great! I want to highlight three very important people there that always made our stay exceptional. Tom and Mary Beth, from reservations, and Tony from the bar! Thank you so much for taking such good care of of us! We will be back very soon!
I was a previous resident of Lubbock and had always thought the Overton was a nice hotel but had never stayed there. I came for the weekend on a business trip, staying Friday and Saturday night. I usually give a “Pros and Cons” when I give these reviews but really not a whole lot of “pros” here except the hotel’s proximity to my activities in Lubbock over the weekend. Ok so the “cons” our room Was a single king. Their was funny smell when we arrived that lingered the whole stay. I thought maybe it would go away or our noses would accommodate. Sadly this never happened. The smell was like something had died along with a musty foul moldy smell. The chemicals they used to try and cover it up were also present but not enough to mask the smell. In addition our AC didn’t work the first night and it felt like 80 degrees in our room. This hot room mixed with a very uncomfortable mattress, it was a terrible nights sleep. I will at least say the customer service seemed to be decent however I don’t see myself ever staying in the hotel again. Especially for what they charge per night, way better options in Lubbock.…
