2 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

We were looking around at places to stay in Jefferson yesterday afternoon. We stopped by the front desk and casually asked if it was true that Oscar Wilde had stayed at the Excelsior. The desk agent was just too busy to answer with more than "yes." We asked when? He barely looked up from the book he was reading and... More

The hotel is nice and interesting because is Antique, however the room 207 needs repairs, the sink leaking, you can hear the water leak all night long, and is annoying, besides water is wasted, the door handle was loose and could not be closed and have privacy. the price vs quality is very high and expensive. Clean towels and good... More

We stayed in the Parlor. It is a lovely room with a door leading to the courtyard. The king bed is very soft so if you need a firm mattress you might want to try another room, otherwise it is perfect. It is located on the first floor which is convenient since there is no elevator.

I love the Excelsior House Hotel! It is so charming. I am so glad history is being preserved. Our room was decorated so cute and the a/c unit took me back to a time when I used to stay with my grandparents. The view from our window was so pretty. Also, everyone one that works there is so nice. We... More

Spotty, unreliable wifi, no fitted bottom sheets on the bed and a noisy early morning environs is offset by spotlessly clean rooms, professional staff, non-stop air conditioning and tasty coffee.  Prices are cheaper during the week - forgo the pricey breakfast and eat down the street at the Bayou Bakery.  The hotel is a genuine slice of Jefferson culture, so... The Excelsior House is a historic hotel with a storied past and notable guests such as Presidents Hayes and Grant. It is amazing to see the register pages where the Presidents sign in to the hotel. Seeing President Grant sign in as General Grant certainly revealed the title he was most proud of. The room we had, The Diamond Bessie... More

Very historic hotel that's been on continuous operation since the 1850s. The rooms are very nice but beware that there is no central air and in the height of the summer the window units can have trouble keeping up with the over 100 degree heat. The staff is very helpful and the plantation breakfast is NOT to be missed -... More

We enjoyed the stay immensely. My wife fell in love with the Victorian room, which opened to the wonderful courtyard. It was a step back into time; the decor, the lobby filled with history, the elegant breakfast, and within walking distance of the beautiful sites that Jefferson has to offer made a memorable experience worth repeating, and we will. The... More

We enjoyed the beautiful furnishings, the pretty courtyard, and the friendly, helpful staff. The Excelsior's location is great---walking distance to eateries, shopping, and museums. We chose the ground floor Blalock Room because it had a king-size bed and claw foot tub. The TV and Wi-Fi worked well, and the room was quiet even though it looked out to the front porch.... More

This is a very historic hotel in a beautiful East Texas city. The location is perfect being in walking distance of shopping, dining and entertainment. I stayed in the Jay Gould room which is very roomy and appointed with antique furniture. My only complaint is that the wireless didn't work. The breakfast was amazing in the magnificent dining area.
