“Over the Top” Customer Service - Magnolia needs to be training all hotels and chains on how to roll out the red carpet for their guests. We were greeted with extremely courteous service from the valet at arrival, conversation at the check-in desk with clear emphasis that satisfying our needs and comfort during our stay was their top priority. That continued through the wait staff at breakfast and as we checked out. The room was very well appointed, extremely quiet and only a short walk to Minute Maid Park. Hotel also has a very nice and large lounge, billiard’s room and 23rd floor roof top pool. The hotel is nice enough on it’s own accord, but the entire staff we encountered just made it a wonderful stay! We will be back !

This is a fancy and expensive hotel, but it is located in a very bad part of downtown. The area is filled with homeless and panhandlers who are quite aggressive. You spend 20 minutes outside waiting for your valet to bring your car, and panhandlers approach you asking for money, and hotel is not doing anything about it. The rooms are nice and big but the pillows are small and uncomfortable. The rooms don't get cleaned. Many hotels are now charging double price while skimping on a cleaning service. This is one of them. Valet takes 20 minutes to bring your car. There is a warning outside so you can't complain, but it's not acceptable. All in all, not worth the price.

As soon as we stepped into the hotel we were warmly greeted and assisted graciously. The hotel was not only gorgeous, everyone we encountered was so helpful, friendly, and gave exceptional customer service! Our amenities were perfection and they even offered to provide us with a crib so my grandson could stay the night with us after talking to us about our visit. You can tell that everyone there truly cares about people and it was so nice to experience.

Loved that the hotel is pet friendly so we could bring our disabled cat along, that needs frequent care. Our handicat, if you will. Anywho, husband called the hotel restaurant asking what vegan options were available. They quickly said none and hung up. I doubted it so went down there and got chips and salsa. They also had French fries and salads, plenty vegan options for me in a pinch. Not sure why they didn’t mention them. For the breakfast buffet they had some options. I had to ask the bartender for plant milk that he brought from the back saying it was almond. Would’ve been nice to just have some in the fridge like the non plant milks. I just had to trust the half filled cup the bartender brought from the back. Seeing as lactose intolerance is pretty prevalent, can’t hurt to be mindful.

We stayed 2 nights in a premium room on the 12th floor. Great views of the city, central downtown location. Valet service is $36/night but it was prompt and excellent. There is a big sign saying that it takes 10-20 minutes to retrieve your car but with the text messaging system it was always ready for us within 5 minutes and we never had to wait. Bed was super comfortable, the room was very clean, quiet A/C, didn't hear the neighbours although the room entry doors slam pretty loud. There are outlets for two plugs and two USB ports built into the headboard on each side of the bed, but a couple of them didn't work for us. The TV is smaller and older compared to other 4-star hotels. The shower water pressure was fantastic and they have refillable pumps dispensing soap. Our biggest concern was that there was no way to ventilate the room. The windows are painted shut and the exhaust fan for the bathroom was either non existent or not working. Management should take a look into this right away as I can see it causing serious damage over time and potential for mold. No housekeeping during our stay (you have to request it). There is very little in the way of coffee and tea amenities in the room itself (no tea, no milk/cream), bar fridge is provided, but coffee is provided in the lobby each day and they offer milk and cookies after 8pm on certain days of the week, which was a cute touch. I did not feel safe walking around this part of town on my own at night. There is a pretty cool rooftop pool and jacuzzi that is open until 11pm. Shout out to Christian who was working on the incredible mural on the wall up there. Talented artist with local knowledge and insight of the city. Be sure to admire the story in the artwork!

Stayed one night, Feb 19, 2022, at the Magnolia Hotel Houston. After rushing to our room to dress for a show and leave, we returned about 11pm. We dressed for bed but when I pulled back the covers it was obvious that the bed had been slept in. I was furious. This wasn't the usual coffee cup ring that you find that housekeeping overlooked. This was total deception, pretending to clean a room and REMAKE A BED SOMEONE HAS SLEPT IN. Desk person (Todd) initially said no housekeeping staff available and no other rooms available, offer me free breakfast the next morning (I'm not sure where that was going, free breakfast to go ahead and sleep in the bed? To change my own sheet? Not sure because I wouldn't entertain either option) By midnight, I was told that another room was available and that we could move to it (17th floor to 4th floor). This meant get packed, and dressed at midnight and move. I asked for a full refund for my inconvenience. Todd, who was a desk attendant, explained that this was beyond his ability to grant and that I would have to wait for the 7am manager. The 7am manager, Victoria, offered to cover my parking fee of $40. I said that was unacceptable. She then offered $40 parking plus $40 discount. I repeated my point that this was not a simple oversight situation, for which I would have accepted an apology and moved on. This was someone without any regard for cleanliness and safety, who is willing to put the public at even greater risk. I can't violate those kinds of rules on my job and management treat the customer as if it's "not big deal" What has to happen for a person to get a refund??? Victoria too said she could not grant a refund and would have to check with an even higher authority. Within an hour the Assistant Manager of Housekeeping (I think Josefina), we spoke for 5 min. I told her how the experience caused me to question cleanliness about the whole hotel especially the room where I was sleeping. I reminded here that we are in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. I mentioned a few other questionable cleanliness observations (carpet on stairway to the lounge had obvious trash, body wash, shampoo dispensers had smudges). She too had to check with someone else for a refund. Upon checkout I was offered $80 discount of 20,000 Marriott points (oh year, I'm a gold member of 20 years). 20,000 Marriott points, by the way, isn't enough to stay in a boutique level property like the Magnolia (it will cover a Fairfield Inn or Courtyard, most of the time). I didn't appreciate the value that they put on customer satisfaction. The first thing you see when you open the website is "Commitment to Clean" "Travel with confidence during COVID-19". Not true! I didn't accept either of the offers. I hope Marriott corporate resolves this by refunding my $183.00

Dear 762astras, Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay. I apologize for any concerns you may have regarding the cleanliness of your room during your visit. The manner in which your concerns were handled was not up to our standards and this has been addressed. I have asked my Front aprfice Manager to work with Marriott Corporate to have your charges reversed as an act of goodwill. I can assure you that it is standard practice that all rooms are cleaned according to Marriott Housekeeping Policies. Thank you again for your comments and we hope to see you again if your travels bring you back to this area. Sincerely, Eddie Timmons

I decided to go to Houston for a weekend get away and a little me time and this hotel was perfect. Very conveniently located downtown close to many nice bars and restaurants all of which were recommended by the courteous front desk staff. My room was clean and very spacious with beautiful decor. I enjoyed going to the lounge in the mornings for coffee before setting out to see the city for the day and was always greeted by any staff I saw. I will definitely stay here again in the future!

I was in Houston for a two day business trip and needed a place downtown. The desk staff were friendly and checked me in and answered questions about the best places to eat and where the gym was and helped me arrange transportation to my meeting the next day. The hotel was located close to my meeting and also restaurants and bars. My room was modern and clean and spacious. The Wi-Fi worked great as well. I would definitely recommend and will be back again soon.

For the price I paid to stay 2 nights at this hotel, I was not impressed. I expected much more at that price point! I called the front desk our 2nd night there because we had no hot water to take a shower. The first night the water was warm, but not hot, but we thought maybe there were several guests showering at the same time, so we just dealt with it. The 2nd night the water was not even warm! The front desk sent the repair man, and 5 seconds after turning on the water he said it was some kind of valve and they didn’t have one to replace it. Very odd that he knew that so fast. We were offered to change rooms, but it was after 11:00 PM at that point, and we didn’t want to have to pack everything up and move that late at night. We were brought keys to a different room that we were allowed to use for a shower. My daughter in law took her shower (not a long one) and then I took mine. Halfway through mine the hot water ran out so I had to finish in cold water. I don’t think there would be many guests showering that late, so that tells me this hotel obviously has inadequate equipment to supply their guests with hot water. I turned on the hot water to the sink in our room before we checked out our last morning there, and the water never got more than luke warm. I guess “the valve” needed to fix the water to the shower needs to be replaced in the sink too. 🤔 Too pricey to have those kind of issues. We’ll stay elsewhere next time.

We came into Houston the day before the big marathon to meet up with a family member who would be running. Sat in the second floor lounge area and had coffee. The server was quite nice, coffee was hot and I guess priced accordingly for a swanky hotel. The restroom near the lounge was very clean and modern. We only really saw that area and the main lobby and it all looked top notch.
