My recent stay at The Sam Houston, Curio Collection by Hilton in Houston was a delightful blend of historic charm and modern comfort. The hotel’s location in the heart of downtown Houston provided easy access to the city’s attractions and cultural venues. My room was a haven of relaxation, with stylish decor and all the amenities I needed. The central location allowed me to explore Houston’s vibrant neighborhoods, from the Theater District to Discovery Green Park. Dining at the hotel’s restaurant, The Pearl Restaurant & Bar, was a culinary delight, with a menu that highlighted Texas flavors. The Sam Houston exceeded all my expectations, and I eagerly look forward to my next visit to this charming gem in Houston.

The chef has cooks in the kitchen who do not wash their hands before or after preparing your food! The kitchen is always nasty. The hotel has alot of homeless people around it, two weeks ago a homeless man came in there stabbed screaming for help! I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, definitely a waste of your money

Response from Bill Cirlot, General Manager at The Sam Houston, Curio Collection by Hilton
Responded Jul 21, 2023
Just so you are aware, this comment is from a former disgruntled employee. We pride ourselves on our exemplary food and beverage service as shown in our A+ ratings from the City Health Department and Hilton's strict codes of compliance. Houston as any major city does have some issues with homelessness, but our hotel along with every hotel in the downtown market does have to deal with this issue. We are fully engaged with the City and all the efforts that are being done to address this situation that every large city faces. We should not be singled out.

I found this hotel to be rather nice. The general manager even came to say hi to me because I am lifetime Diamond. The area around the hotel does have a lot of homeless people. The rooms are very nice and the staff was also super nice. The lobby was really great and unique. A nice place for sure.

The property was disgusting with the homeless sleeping outside and its lobby smelling foul. The housekeeping was below standard with unclean sheets made inside out. No one told me it was close to a prison and vagrant encampment. I strongly caution anyone concerned for their families or personal belongings to stay away.

Terrific hotel in the center of Houston. Nice and greetings staff that got us checked in easily and made our stay pleasant for 3 nights. The hotel has a restaurant the Sam which is amazing, good burgers and selection of beers. One downside is that the church across the street attracts a crowd of people waiting to get free resources and food to eat

From arrival at 9.25pm, the staff seemed generally disinterested. Even though the restaurant is advertised as closing at 11pm, asking for food at 9.30pm was apparently too late. This should not happen! The room itself was reasonable enough and the highlight of the stay was the male reception superstar working on the morning of checkout. He certainly improved things and was way better than the two females from the night of checkin.

Upon arrival everything looked good. Friendly valet. Small elevators but not the end of the world. No fridge or microwave in the room. Had I known I would not have chosen it. Bathroom was not that clean. Hair in the sink. The Hilton need to get with the times. Outdated cable in rooms. By now you should be able to connect to your streaming services in rooms. No hot water in the mornings. This hotel is way overpriced and not luxurious at all. I would not recommend

The bar tender, front desk and valet are all doing a great job. However the facility and location are absolutely horrible. I paid $331+ a night (due to a conference in town) but you couldn’t pay me $31 to stay here again. The homeless population is overwhelming at this location and the rooms rival that if a Motel 6. Very disappointed in Hilton on this one

The hotel is very nice with clean and comfortable rooms. Staff are quite pleasant. The bar and restaurant serve good food and drinks, if overpriced. However, the outside noise was terrible, making it impossible to sleep. When I checked out I was told “that happens” on Saturday nights. Okay, but it would have been nice to have been warned or to have an option for a quieter room. One of the primary duties of a hotel room, particularly at this rate, is to facilitate a good night’s sleep. Very disappointing that a known problem left me having wasted money.
