This hotel has nice size rooms! Comfortable beds. The area they need to improve is service. Our room was not cleaned one day we asked if this was to be expected the main desk said no but there was no one to make up the room. It only happened once for us but we were traveling with several friends who had the same issue with their rooms. The food at there restaurant was very tasty but again the service was really slow. When you are vacationing you want to be able to get out and see the area not the hotel.

Dear 212Sunshine, Thank you for acknowledging our spacious rooms and comfortable beds even though you found our service to be underwhelming. Normally our staff does a terrific job of responding to our guests’ needs, and in your case, that did not happen. We value your comments and will use them to ensure we are more consistent in our service levels. I hope we have the chance to host you again and leave you with a more favorable impression. Sincerely, Andy Burch General Manager

Recently spent a quick night at the brand-new Cambria Houston Downtown. The hotel opened in August, so needless to say, everything is still brand new. It's an older office building (1920s from a quick search), that's been converted into a hotel, and for that reason, rooms are oddly shaped and of different sizes. The one we got was fairly spacious, with a very large bathroom, and three windows, though the view was partially obstructed by architectural features of the building. This could truly be a 5/5 "excellent" stay, had it not been for some minor inconveniences, which still make it "above average", as per TripAdvisor's rating system. 1- Although the building has 5 elevators servicing 21 floors, not all appear to be servicable. Some may have just become decorative doors, with the building's transformation into a hotel, now that it doesn't have the traffic of an office building. When we stayed, only 2 seemed to be working, and one was used for service. The one that was used for service, which we seemed to get most of the time, was painfully slow, including the longest I've ever experienced an elevator to take to open the doors as it levels on your selected floor. Thought every time we were getting stuck. 2- We were on the 13th floor, and usually, if a building is taller than 5-6 floors, it will need booster/relay pumps to get the water pressure to the upper floors. Sadly, either they cheaped out during the renos, or the showerhead is one of those "water saving heads" that takes water saving a bit too far. There was little pressure. It wasn't pleasant taking a shower, or rinsing out soap/shampoo. 3- The bathroom had a Bluetooth mirror, which we couldn't connect to any of our devices. There were no instructions anywhere either on how to make it work. And no, I'm not that tech-deficient, so I guess for now, it's a decorative feature... 4- Choice currently has a promo that Choice Privileges members get a $10 bar credit. Upon check-in, I was advised to charge it to the room and it would get credited at check-out, not to worry. I had to call because it wasn't. Minor inconvenience, but annoying nonetheless. Bedding was extremely comfortable. The décor all around was upscale and warm, with a georgous entry lobby (front desk is on the second level). I'm very happy that Choice hotels is growing the Cambria brand, simply because many of their other brands (Quality, Comfort, Econo Lodge) are dumpy properties. Every Cambria I've stayed at so far has had great beds, great, warm feather duvets and pillows, like their upscale competing brands (Hilton, Marriott), and it gives an alternative after the Marriott/SPG merger, and the rather underwhelming new loyalty program. Some staff were more reserved than others, but all were polite and professional. They were happy to assist when asked, though again, some front desk agents were more knowledgable than others. Normal in a new hotel. Would I stay again If I came back to Houston? Yes.

We were in town for the International Quilt Festival and stayed 3 nights! First off the location was easy to get too, offers valet parking or there is a parking lot across the street. (Did have a little trouble with that parking lot meter but that's for a different review). Walked into the Cambria and discovered a beautiful old building. The door greeters we had all weekend were so nice! Only draw back of the whole stay was even though there are several elevators, not all were working BUT they had service people there working on the situation, so hopefully they have that little issue solved. We stayed on the 17th floor and upon walking into our room the 3 of us were like WOW! The room was very large, beautifully decorated, the view was very nice and the bathroom was huge! The shower was huge! There was a dispenser was shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The blow drier was a nice, full size one. There was Bluetooth in there too! The beds were so comfortable! Shoot I'd take one like that at home! And there were lots of pillows! Our room had a Keurig coffee maker with supplies to make coffee and a mini fridge. Our particular room did not have a microwave and don't know if that's an option? This was an unexpected gem and will remember for any other visit to Houston! Oh it's also close to many great places to eat and was only a few blocks for the convention center! Included a few quick pictures I took.

I stayed in the Cambria for two nights on a recent trip to see Rigoletto at the Houston Grand Opera. It is located only a couple of blocks from Minute Maid Park. The building is beautiful and the rooms were very nice. The staff did a wonderful job and were all so helpful and friendly. I had a terrific time staying here and will definitely return again when I visit Houston.

My husband's birthday was coming up so I bought tickets to see the Astros.I contacted Kristin Skille and the pics show just how above and beyond they went! The staff was so friendly and welcoming! Kyndahl O'Quinn was absolutely precious! They even had staff members sign a bday card. Somehow they seem more like friends. The rooms are clean, beautiful & comfy. We enjoyed some sliders and potato skins at the bar that were yummy! And to top it off...it's walking distance to the stadium. If you are looking for a hotel in downtown Houston, stay here!! You won't be disappointed.
