Second trip to this lovely hidden gem. Quiet, peaceful. A wonderful get away for nature lovers that enjoy watching & photographing wildlife. Then hop on the tour bus after enjoying a real home cooked breakfast and learn about the wildlife they are helping to save their in this lovely park. Worth every penny and then some. Their tour guides are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. My 10 & 12 year old grandsons are ready to go back for another stay.

This lodge was once a private home. Rooms are spacious and quiet with no TVs. Baths are lovely. There is a community kitchen, game room and TV room plus several wide/private patios overlooking the pasture where the wildlife roam freely. No pool. Guests at the lodge have a free breakfast (eh) at the cabin camp up the road. You CANNOT go beyond the immediate grounds on foot due to wildlife.

Most beautiful and interesting place to visit with family, as a couple or with children (5 yrs - teenagers, for an overnight trip or a week or more, The Lodge is beautiful and has all the accommodations you will need (sheets, blankets, pillows, bath towels, wash rags, etc.) you will need to bring all your personal incidentals. On the second floor is a great room with TV, which we have never turned on in 4 visits. The lodge is so comfortable and has floor is a large balcony that overlooks grazing land for many variety's of animals. They have been there in the early mornings and evenings when we have visited. It is so comfortable to come back to the lodge after a day of sight seeing the various animals and habitats on the property. There is an excellent behind the scene tour of the endangered species that is so special. Our family rates the Lodge as Triple A+++

We are not new to the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. We have driven through the park many times... but we had never stayed at the lodge. This is the main lodge, not the cabins. From our understanding, this was the home of an oil tycoon that helped found Fossil Rim. His home was later turned into the lodge, years after he had sold the property. So... it is not so much a "lodge" as it is a converted home... albeit an extraordinary home in the middle of an absolute paradise. We stayed in the Peregrine Room, which is the master suite on the 3rd floor. It was my wife and I on our anniversary, in December. Let me get the one negative out of the way. It is minor. The place is dated. Many things show signs of wear and need to be repaired or updated. In addition, the place really needs an overall deep cleaning. I can live with things being outdated, but the cleaning is what made this a 4 star and not a 5. If the Lodge is under Fossil Rim, then I understand as a non-profit, there are limitations. I would just like to see it better cared for - quite frankly because the place is part of an extraordinary experience and the lodge should reflect this. The positives: - the staff was great, both at the lodge and at the safari camp. They will take care of you! - You are surrounded by 1400 acres of wildlife. The lodge is in the middle. You can sit on the deck and watch the animals, while eating a meal (see tips below), or having a coffee. - With only 1 TV in the whole lodge, it is a great place to take a break from the noise of electronics. There are plenty of games, cards, pool, air hockey, and other things to do for entertainment... and maybe even talk to each other. - It is an easygoing, relaxing, and refreshing experience. Forget the negative I gave above... this is worth it! Going out into the park, whether on your own or a part of the morning safari, take your time and enjoy yourselves. Tips: - take at least 3 hours to go through the park. Don't rush it. Stop and watch the animals, watch the giraffe interact and feed, stay long enough to see the cheetahs play, watch the wildebeest herd roam. Simply enjoy all that Fossil Rim has done over the years. I see cars rush through... give the driver of your car a chill pill and relax and enjoy the drive. - take your own food, especially if staying Sunday thru Thursday. There is no dinner served on the other nights, and it's a pain to drive into town. The lodge has a microwave and a full-size fridge. We brought stuff for sandwiches, snacks, and drinks. We made our own supper and enjoyed it in the room or on the deck. Mr Jims Pizza will deliver to the Lodge, so that is a good option as well, especially if staying more than one night. Make your own supper one night and order Mr Jims the other night. - checkin is at 3:00. Be there as close to that time as possible so you can enjoy the lodge before dark. ** Would we do it again? ** Yes, without a doubt! Next time we are staying longer so we can get into full relaxation mode. For every night you stay you get another drive through the park... so heck yes, we would do it again.

We stayed in the Parrot room and it was large and the bathroom was large. Has a combined shower and tiled Jacuzzi in it. Bed was comfortable. Wish we could have stayed longer. The living room is super big and has a kitchen.
