I have stayed here many times in the past. I was very disappointed. First off I knew it was under renovation but seriously no COFFEE in the room. That should have had NOTHING to do with renovations. I feel like when you pay for the price of a 5 star hotel you should not have to pay for coffee. Also there was no microwave, serviced our room one time and we were there for 5 nights. I have recommended this hotel to a lot of people. I will definitely not recommend again. It is a great location and a beautiful pool. Just heads up that is supposed to start renovations next month.
We haven’t been to The Galvez in over a year. We used to stay at least two weekends a month. The Mitchell family has sold the Galvez and it is NOT the same at all! If you haven’t been in awhile you are in for a shock! I will start with the positive of the new owners “remodel “. The food is much better and I like they took out the tub in the bathroom and made a bigger shower. Now for the not so positive. They took out the beautiful front doors and put in a cheap revolving door. They painted the outside of the hotel a Pepto-Bismol pink with huge black and white window coverings on the front of the hotel. Then you walk inside, to what I am guessing they were trying to achieve a swanky something. They have put in an ultra modern guest registration desk, to which we waited for 2 1/2 hours after check in time for our room! They removed the large check in area of old and put in a coffee bar that is open from6:30am and 1:00pm. They added a bar to the left with huge red chandeliers and playing Sinatra. The hallway has huge gold bells with Chrystal chandeliers underneath them. I thought it was a decoration for Christmas but it wasn’t. The opposite hall has white chandeliers with red covers with black and white checked flooring. Getting off the elevator to your room and you are blasted with the most god awful wall coverings, a floral jungle with owls and monkeys and a blue carpet! Then you enter your room which has the same wall coverings on one wall and mirrors on the entire wall behind the bed. The ceiling is painted a light blue and the furnishings are white, cheap and chintzy. The carpet is blue and white square with white specks on the blue part. The hotel now looks as if someone tried to make it a cheap hotel somewhere in the Bahamas with maybe a hit of I’ll repute! The Galvez is no longer the eloquent, glamours, classy hotel of distinction. The name has now been changed to the Grand Galvez, which this remodel did not come close to “grand”.…
My husband and I stayed at the Grand Galvez 9/11 - 9/15. Had a city view king room. The overall stay was great. The renovations to the common areas are breathtaking. We enjoyed the bar area every day / night we were there and had great service and wonderful cocktails. Only disappointment was the pool bar was not opened and there were no umbrellas at the pool. We normally spend a lot of time at the pool, but only stayed about 2 hours this stay. And we requested maid service on the 3rd day and all they did was give us more towels. I love this hotel and will continue to stay there. Just the two disappoints, but nothing major.
Morgan @ the bar was GREAT & very nice. !!! Great customer service , everything was great! Sandra was also VERY NICE!! She made sure i had everything i needed & constantly made sure i had something to drink! Great experience on my First time visiting. Well defiantly be back; and will also recommend my friends and family to visit this place.
This hotel is an amazing place. I would give it more stars if possible. They just finished a major remodel. It was originally built in 1911 and the remodel makes you feel like you are back in a luxury hotel if the era. Food was great, bar was authentic and pool area very comfortable.
Floor was wet in our room the whole time we were there. Bathroom reeked of urine smell. Bartender ignored us for 45 minutes. Will never go back. Was not 4 star as they claim. If was Labor Day but hotel was not busy
The beds are worn out. The pillows are all 1 type hard. I looked at 3 different rooms after I set on the beds. Had to move from the 1st room after all luggage was in and had to repack and move but the beds all were worn out. Hotel lobby is beautiful, but could barely walk with a broken back during my stay so did not see all of the new updated lobby. I had to sleep right on the edge of the bed as you would fold up in the middle. I am a 5 2" not heavy 4 or 6 petite... so I was not folding the bed into an envelope. What really got me when I went down to talk about the beds and I needed a different room, the person at the desk argued with me that the beds were wonderful.....I met people in the halls and asked about their beds and they all said horrible. I have stayed at this hotel many times but until I know they have new beds I will not return.…
Lucas at Valet Parking was incredible. He was very busy, but his smile was genuine and authentic, even though it was hot, humid, and Lucas was running all over to keep the guests of the hotel taken care of, Lucas never wavered from being attentive and friendly. I am not sure how he did it, but he loaded our luggage, opened my wife's door and ran around to my door to open mine. Hats off to Lucas for a job well done! The entire staff were polite and helpful, but Lucas rose to the top.
Decided to stay at this hotel while daughter was at cheer camp In Galveston. After already paying $269 for one night after taxes and fees you have to pay for parking at this hotel and you cannot bring in coolers of any kind. No amenities. No microwave, no coffee maker. Rooms were disappointing smaller than usual. Bathroom in this old hotel is updated but no ventilation system so gets steamy in there. Phones in hotel not working and only found that out when I walked down stairs to tell them we had not received our roll away bed we requested 9 hrs earlier. Also ice machine on our floor was broken, but couldn't tell them that because phones weren't working. Pool needs updated. Cut my foot on a tile on step not bad but eventually someone will cut foot wide open on it. Would not recommend. Cheaper hotel will have better amenities on the beach.…
One of the most beautiful hotels I’ve ever stayed at especially for the price. Rooms were very comfortable. Everyone was very helpful. Right across from a nice beach. Pool was fun for the kids. Food was good & not overpriced. I have no complaints! Definitely will go back!
