Grand Galvez has captivated guests with its fusion of historical allure and contemporary sophistication. Reviewers commend the hotel for its cleanliness and recent renovations that contribute to the stylish rooms, although some have noted issues with size and noise. The hotel's amenities, including its proximity to the beach and the inviting pool area, are well-regarded, but concerns over appliance functionality and pool upkeep have been mentioned. While the location near The Strand is a highlight for many, some travelers question the value, pointing out the steep prices relative to the service received. Mixed feedback on customer service shows experiences ranging from commendable to disappointing.

I took a solo trip to Galveston from Houston to celebrate my birthday as all my original plans got diverted due to Covid. I got an ocean view king room and stayed 2 nights. I told them it was my birthday on my booking and I had a cheesecake and a birthday card waiting for me in my room when I checked in. The hotel is in an excellent location right near Murdochs and not far from the pleasure pier. It was so nice waking up to a view of the ocean, really made me feel like I "went somewhere"

I went to the pool, which did get a little crowded, but people were trying their best to do the social distancing. I never ate at the restaurant, preferring to just get room service, but it looked like people were distanced in the restaurant as well.

I ended up self parking my car in the garage across the street (mostly because I didn't want other people in my car all the time) which was just fine.

A little tip, there is a foot washing station kind of in the bushes on the way up from the beach on the left side of the hotel. That is a nice addition.

I am so glad that I planned my little trip. The only cons were that the room was a little small (the hotel is old, it was big enough for me) and there were calcium deposits in the shower, (probably needs a renovation.) It would be a great couple's getaway.

My husband and I stayed in Room 501 which has a window looking over the Gulf of Mexico and Pleasure Pier, and there's a second window that overlooks the city. This "haunted" room has six mirrors: a full-length mirror in the bathroom, along with a tilt mirror above the sink, and a hand-held mirror on the counter. In the closet there are two full-length mirrors inside the doors, along with bath robes. The counter that holds the coffee maker and ice bucket also has a mirror. We were impressed with the views from our room, and it was fun watching the sea gulls and pelicans fly by our windows. The pool was nice, and we ate breakfast by the window at the restaurant. They also offer bicycles to ride. I highly recommend staying at this quaint, historic hotel.

At one time we visited Galveston frequently, but this was our first visit in 25 years. Now that we have both retired we can visit mid week in off season to enjoy better rates without the crowds. We had always wanted to stay at the Galvez, but avoided it with our small children. We booked a mid week February trip near Valentines Day. We were not sure if the Galvez would appear old, but were pleasantly surprised to find it very nice and updated. The staff was first class, pleasant, and willing to assist anyway they could. Our gulf view room was exceptional and large. We reserved a Pure room which never allowed pets. Happy hour in the bar was very nice and reasonably prices for this upscale hotel. After a large lunch the day of arrival and several drinks we decided to eat in the hotel restaurant. The club sandwich was large and very good. Rather than use the valet parking we self parked and the self parking garage is just across the street and requires your room key for entry which provides adequate security. The only issue we had, though minor, was our room was just across from the elevator and at times there was late night noise from someone entering. We did check out the pool and grounds and found them very well kept and the pool looked like a very good place to relax. The hotel was first class and is especially nice at mid week without crowds.

Stayed two nights in the Franklin Suite and Eleanor Room a two room suite. Very well maintained facility tand the room accomodations far exceeded expectations for a 100 year old hotel. Breakfast pricing is a bit expensive regardless of your expense account but excellent quality.

In search of a change of scenery, I checked in at The Hotel Galvez just before Labor Day. The location and grounds were perfect and provided just what I was looking for.

However, after entering, I started to have concerns. No one was checking for masks or limiting the number of people on the elevator. Many guests were in the lobby without masks, and riding the elevator at full capacity.

The guest rooms are in desperate need of an upgrade. Upon checking into an gulf view room (at an additional cost), I found a traffic signal just outside my window, partially blocking my view. And, at night, the color of changing lights can be seen, even with curtains closed. After a quick inspection of the room, I notice the entire baseboard in the bathroom had been badly scratched. I called to notify them as I didn't want to be responsible for charges. The associate kindly offered to move me to another room.

...it wasn't much better. The decor is dated, the hall floors were always dirty, loud AC unit, small bathroom, rust around the sink, small TVs with limited technology.

If you're coming to Galveston to enjoy the island only-- not a clean freak who likes to enjoy her living space, this hotel might work for you. Given the four star rating and COVID conditions, I had higher expectations and was quite disappointed.

The location of the Hotel Galvez was fantastic. Just cross the road to the beach - traffic light crossing outside the hotel for safety. We Valet parked which was well worth the small fee of $20.00 per day. The valet Workers were very friendly. Text when you need your car and it is there within minutes - very efficient. Within walking distance to Murdochs for souvenirs , ice cream or a relaxing drink on their rocking chairs on the balcony overlooking the sea! The pier is one of the nicest I have been to and our girls had a blast on all the rides , Again within walking distance. You can also check out bicycles from the hotel to ride on the seawall. We were greeted by Melissa who checked us in , she is so warm and friendly I felt like she a friend by the time our family left. She was knowledgeable about the Hotel Galvez and surrounding areas and always made time to help us and make our stay fantastic ! She really was a credit to the Hotel Galvez! The hotel architecture is splendid, the rooms and bathrooms of course are smaller than modern hotels, but that is more than made up for by the comfortable beds and the ambiance of this historical hotel. The pool is lovely, swim up bar was closed due to Covid but waitresses were serving drinks to your sun lounger. The Hotel had hand sanitizer stations and seated you apart in the restaurant. cleaned the elevators hourly and opened the front doors for your every time you entered or exited. I felt they took care to keep everyone safe during these uncertain times, all staff wore masks and so did 99% of the guests. We stayed here for the ghosts... of which we pictured at least three ! Our girls loved the EMF readers you checked out from reception to do your own self guided Ghost tour ( download onto cell phone) of the Hotel. There is also a self guided historical tour of the hotel. The museum downstairs is fascinating and well worth the visit. The gardens are beautiful and well maintained. All in all a wonderful visit and my family would be delighted to return!

I was so disappointed by this hotel. We stayed for three nights and were honestly relieved to go. The rooms are completely bare bones and service in the hotel is just horrendous. I hope you enjoy paper cups because actual glasses don't exist, nor does a safe, coffee maker, or so much as a spare blanket in your room. Housekeeping won't come unless you specifically ask for it, and if they do, they won't change out your sheets, towels, or toiletries unless you specifically request each. It was a lovely surprise to get back to our room at 4pm and find our unmade bed, towels on the floor, and no toiletries.

The room was tiny and I have never slept on a harder bed. Both my husband and I were in actual pain for our entire trip because the bed was so awful. Don't bother calling the front desk (there isn't one) because if you do reach someone, they'll say "we don't have that." Decor was bland and dated, food in the restaurant is overpriced and not very good (we were told they had in-room dining but when we tried to order they said no). The pool area isn't clean and is much smaller than they make it look. This was just flat-out one of the worst hotels I've stayed in, which was incredibly disappointing, considering that we anticipated a luxurious spa vacation.

We just love this hotel. It is historic and luxurious. For COVID, you must manage your own luggage but their are many carts to use to carry your own luggage to the room. Self parking is $12 per night and valet is $20.00. Self parking was very easy, we took Uber when dining out so as to enjoy adult beverages. Uber seems to disappear after 11pm so make plans. The pool area is resort-like luxury with a swim up bar for drinks and snacks. The rooms ending in 30 are larger and have a great view of the Gulf of Mexico and the Pleasure Pier. The location is great, you could walk to most places of interest if the weather is nice. Highly recommended. Great people, great service, personable and Texan.

We have stayed at The Galvez 2-3 other times and loved the grand beauty of it. We chose to go back for our 23rd Anniversary weekend and found it still very nice with comfortable beds and a nice view of the water. However, sadly, upon entering there was just nothing there that added the ritzy welcome of times past. No fresh flower bouquet in the foyer or soft piano music playing. There was a fresh scent, but past that was a darkish, plain and dead quiet lobby.

*Our Room* We stayed in the Hollywood suite on the 7th floor which is beautiful, however, there was a baby roach in the bathroom and I noticed behind the toilet had not been swept or mopped. There were areas that needed attention with cracks and some rust but other than that very comfy.

*The restaurant* I booked the Galvez partly bc of the Sunday Brunch. They do not have it bc of Covid so that was a huge disappointment especially since (my mom was staying at the San Luis) and said they have a breakfast buffet right now but just had servers hand you your food, so I know it is possible to have it, the Galvez just doesn’t. The restaurant had good food except for the long black hair in my husbands Caesar salad. It took them about 20 minutes to bring him another one. I noticed a lady standing the whole time the other waiters and waitresses worked (maybe managing?) but she never came to apologize for the salad dilemma.

*Room Service* anything you order will be handed to you through the door in a brown paper bag with foil condiments & (I’m not kidding) a plastic wrapped set of plasticware. No extra anything like salt or pepper or even napkins. We used our bath towels for a napkin.

*The Staff* sweet front desk people... waiters & waitresses were sweet but need either more training or more help.

I am not an avid review writer, I just want others (and hopefully the new owners) to know that the Galvez just is not up to par compared to what it was or *should* and could be.

I know covid hit hard, however, bc they’ve had months to prepare, to paint, to refurbish & to kill roaches in order to reopen it should have been fabulous!!! Roaches and hair in salad and no music playing and no fresh flowers just isn’t what Hotel Galvez should be. Especially for what you pay.

The flowers in the pictures are ones my husband ordered from a local florist and had them delivered. They were not part of the Galvez’s addition.

The Galvez had an old world feel to it. It was located just across the street from the beach near the Galveston Boardwalk and several restaurants. The rooms were suprisingly small, but modern and very well kept. I'd definitely recommend staying here if you have the chance.

Beware...self parking is $12 and valet parking is $20.
