We stayed here last weekend and Donna and her staff were very pleasant and we ate at her restaurant downstairs and the food was great. We highly recommend this place. The rooms were very nice and historic.
Loved the historic building and the story behind the building. The room could have used a little TLC (window treatments were crooked, flooring missing some tile, air vent needs to be cleaned, etc.) but overall very cute. All rooms are softly light (relaxing) but up a long stretch of stairs with no elevator. Makes it a little hard to get luggage to your room. Also, street noise (including a train) was distracting. It was great to go downstairs and have dinner. Very convenient and fun.
We reserved the entire bnb for our group. Found it to be beautifully appointed, comfortable and inviting. Beds were luxurious. We had lunch downstairs. It was wonderful, fresh and reasonable. Breakfast was delicious, quiche, cheesecake sopapillas and fresh fruit. We would have enjoyed shopping the square so we will be back!
My mother reviewed below, & her account matches mine. I added another star, because for what we needed this place was perfect! My only real complaints are that the restaurant downstairs wasn't open Sunday & Monday (which is a selfish desire because the food was delicious!) & that a comment that was made to my mother made her feel uncomfortable. I want to note it because I know she won't. When you are the owner of an establishment, take responsibility graciously when something goes wrong. The heat went out (see below) & when my mother said something about maybe she should have said something sooner, the owner had a comment that made her feel responsible when she was completely not responsible for the heat issue. It was fixed, but the comment was unnecessary. Customer service 101...be always a gracious host/hostess. I still give this place 5 stars because it was lovely & all of the staff I had interactions with were wonderful. I will stay here again & recommend it to my friends in the area. The surrounding area is charming...although pretty much closed on Sun & Mon. ;)…
Gainesville is about halfway between where my daughter lives and my home so we met here sight unseen for a weekend. Getting information was a little difficult because at the time I booked and visited they didn't have a website (I'm not on FaceBook where they do have some information). I really relied on TripAdvisor reviews and took a chance. We never really "checked in" but were given clear instructions so that wasn't a real problem. The heat went out Saturday and since daughter was gone and I was out and about we really didn't get to report it until after 5:00 PM on Saturday. It is a small town so getting fixed apparently wasn't an option so they brought in a space heater which did the trick. We happened to be the only guests there that weekend which might be creepy for some people (we were the only two people in the whole two-story old building for half our visit) but didn't bother us. There was no real "check out" but again, we were given instructions so not a big deal. The B&B is above Sarah's restaurant which is yummy and convenient but the restaurant is closed Sunday and Monday so plan your visit. Breakfast was simple but good; left in a common area refrigerator with instructions. Each of the four rooms are themed and the common area looks over the courthouse square. We had a little difficulty with the bill but it all got resolved satisfactorily. All in all, some rough spots (they need to supply a list of TV stations) but we would stay here again if the occasion arises.…
