Palo Alto Creek Farm is a true country getaway. We offer all the amenities of a fine hotel with the privacy of your own home. 4 guesthouses have everything you need for a romantic weekend or a fully equipped home for a longer visit. Aside from our day spa and massage services, a favorite activity at the farm is sitting in the swing under the ancient grandfather Oak tree—the same tree the Comanche probably sheltered beneath.

Palo Alto - peace and privacy in the country
My wife and I have long been visitors to Palo Alto Creek Farm, a restored 1850s farmstead. A recent change in ownership worried us about until we made a return visit earlier this year. Fortunately, the new owners have preserved just about everything that makes this a winning place to stay. The facilities are marvelous, especially the "Log Cabin" which has not one but two fireplaces, one of which in a wonderful bathroom ideal for two people in love. Total privacy is assured no matter which of the three units you stay in. The location, about 5 miles north of Fredericksburg on an idyllic country road, is far enough to avoid the tourist bustle, but close enough to get into town at a moment's notice. The continental breakfast left in the units before you arrive is a mixture of homemade breads, juices, milk, and other assorted breakfast goodies. Deer gather each evening for the nightly feeding, and there is a small amount of livestock kept on the Farm. And you cannot forget the loving farm cats that will greet you and follow you whenever you're outside.Palo Alto Creek Farm is not inexpensive - but it's worth every penny and more. Stay several days and feel the city tension drain away. See ... for more details.

    Peaceful and Serene
My husband and I visited Palo Alto Creek Farm to celebrate our anniversary. We stayed in the Log Cabin for 2 nights. We selected the cabin based off of pictures on their website. It is just as pictured. The cabin consists of 2 rooms plus a bathroom. The main room is a living room'kitchen combo. This room contained a gas fireplace, high ceilings, and had a full size refrigerator with icebox, old-fashioned but functioning oven, microwave, plenty of dishware & glassware, table with 2 chairs, and a comfortable seating area. We were greeted with fresh flowers on the coffee table and gingerbread cookies from the owner's family recipe. They also provided plenty of food for breakfast for two days. In fact, there was so much food variety that we couldn't eat it all. The only thing missing were pancakes. In fact, with the pots & pans and utensils provided, we could have made them ourselves. All we needed was to bring the ingredients. In the living room area, there is a TV, CD & DVD player. There is also a small selection of movies & CDs to choose from. The bedroom has a king-sized bed with comfy linens and has a dresser & closet with iron & ironing board and even a humidifier, if needed. The bathroom was the real treat. Big whirlpool tub for two, another gas fireplace, and separate shower. In addition, the log cabin contains a loft above the living room designed for massage & spa treatments. You just have to call the local spa (info provided) & they come to you. We enjoyed breakfast on the back porch, enjoyed the scenery (big trees) & were visited by the friendly cats living on the farm. The farm is located 10 minutes outside of Fredericksburg on a beautiful piece of property. During our stay, we visited the main street in town and also several wineries. We had lunch at Fredericksburg Herb Farm, which was fantastic and highly recommended as well. We also had a nice dinner at Navajo Grill, reservations required, attire - casual chic. All in all, a perfectly relaxing and romantic visit to Fredericksburg, TX.

    What a wonderful memory
I had a romantic getaway at Palo Alto Creek Farm many years ago. To this day, I re-live the memories of the fabulous Barn. It was an exquisite stay, and though near the main house and the Log Cabin, feels incredibly private. The creek running at the back of the properly is so serene. Morning walks have little critters scampering about. Deer gather every evening for a gorgeous sunset. Meals in town were memorable as well, but we didn't spend a great deal of time there since we hurried back to the Barn for more heavenly bubble baths in the big jacuzzi tub surrounded by candles. It was simply one of the most relaxing weekends ever. It felt like we were literally on the edge of the earth with no neighbors, no traffic sounds, no worries. I'd love to visit again; but it is definitely getting tougher to find a time when the Barn is not booked. Give this place a try. You'll walk away amazed at how the stress dissolved.

We were greeted upon arrival by the owner who was very pleasant and told us about the farm and surrounding area. The cabin was very nice and had everything we needed for our stay, including plenty of delicious fresh fruit and breakfast choices! We enjoyed having coffee on the screened porch, watching the farm cats stretch in the morning sun and the armadillos foraging for food. And the quiet evenings watching the goats and Longhorn grazing while having some wine we'd picked up from one of the places in town. The homemade gingerbread men were a nice touch. It was very relaxing and a great place to stay!

Veronica, thank you so much for taking the time to write a review for us. I enjoyed visiting with you and John. We are honored that you chose to spend your anniversary at Palo Alto Creek Farm. Beautiful property and gorgeous cottage, The Barn was a great stay except for the mice and the toilette that backed into the tub ( only available bathing facility). We noticed several "droppings" everywhere including the bed sheets. Woke up the first night to a "crash" sound and realized the next morning that the mice knocked over a few kitchen items. Found droppings everywhere and took pictures. That second night we flushed the toilette and watched it back into the tub. Next morning, we left a message with the maintance manager and the manager. We left as soon as we could. For a $500+ stay requested a refund. After 3 emails and a post on the website received a response that it was reported to the owner. Stayed june 22/24 and it's now July 11 with no resolution our request our request.

We are so sorry about your unfortunate experience in The Barn. I was not informed of any of this until you had checked out. We immediately took care of the plumbing problem and set out a trap and caught a mouse. Yesterday I saw the review that had been left by the person who made the reservation and responded as soon as I saw it. I told her that I am sending a letter to her for a complimentary two night stay at her choice of the accommodations at Palo Alto Creek Farm, hoping to get a chance to show how sorry we are for this unpleasant experience. Having stayed there before, she is aware that your experience is not our norm. This is the first that I have been made aware of your request for the refund. Of course we will do that now that I know the problem started the night before you left. My sincere apology for your experience.

This was my second stay at the property. We previously stayed in the Hideway and loved it. The property is charming and we thoroughly enjoyed hearing the history and visiting with Carter. SO we decided to take friends on this trip. We rented the Barn and the Hideway. The Hideway was charming as usual, but the Barn had mice that left droppings all over the kitchen and in the food bags. We also had a problem with the toilet backing up into the bathtub. We have made many attempts to speak with Jessica at Gastehaus Schmidt Lodging (I believe they manage the property) but haven't received an email or return phone call over the past 2 weeks. I would recommend skipping the property since the customer service is so poor when handling a problem.

I am so sorry about your experience in The Barn. I was not notified about any problem until late Sunday morning when you were getting ready to check out. The plumbing problem was tended to after you checked out. Lupe, who takes care of the property, immediately put out mouse traps and caught a mouse. Gastehaus Schmidt (owner Jessica) is just our reservation service. I did not hear anything from Jessica about any problem until sometime later in the week after you left when she emailed me pictures you had sent of mouse droppings on the floor. I sincerely regret the experience you had. From your previous visit, I’m sure you recognize that this very unfortunate experience is not our norm. Thank you for letting me know about this experience. I do hope that you will give us another chance. To try compensate for this experience, I am going to mail you a letter that will be good for a complimentary stay for two nights in your choice of the accommodations at Palo Alto Creek Farm. Please forgive us for this bad experience and again thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Last year, I spent one month searching the web for the perfect anniversary spot in Fredericksburg. When I came across Palo Alto Creek Farm, nothing else compared. The property location is so beautiful. It is high up on a high hill, that feels far away from town, but in actuality, it is only a 5-10 minute drive away. It is a very peaceful, serene setting. The cabin we have chosen to stay at the last two years, is "The Log Cabin." This is hands down, the most romantic place I could have ever hoped to stay at. On our last day, I am never ready to leave, longing for another day. Being our anniversary is in December, there is a perfect chill in the air at night, to light the fireplace in both the living room, and bathroom, with jacuzzi tub. There are candles everywhere to set the mood. This trip, we stayed in much of the day on Saturday, and just sat on the back porch swing taking in the view. It was so peaceful and quiet. We always look forward to loving on the friendly barn cats. The cabin itself is so very quaint. It is rustic, yet has a very romantic, and soft decor inside. Carter puts a special touch to it by adding a few Christmas decorations as well. It it's rainy and cold outside - you're good to snuggle up with your honey, and be perfectly content. There is a stand alone shower, for a quick clean up, or relax and soak in the jacuzzi tub in front of the fireplace. It is divine. There is a front and back porch with rocking chairs and a swing to enjoy. The kitchen has an oven, stove, microwave, and refrigerator. Upon arrival you will find fresh fruit and yummy gingerbread men cookies on the table waiting for you. Open the fridge, and it is a huge spread of a variety of fresh fruit, cereal, milk, juices, muffins, oatmeal, and homemade breakfast tacos, and quiche, ready to heat up each morning of your stay. It is delicious! This is definitely a new tradition for our anniversary each year. As a matter of fact, we are discussing making a return trip in April to celebrate my birthday, because we don't want to wait another year to return.

What a wonderful review you gave us. Thank you for taking so much time to address so many details of your stay and of The Log Cabin! We are delighted that you have chosen The Log Cabin for your annual anniversary celebration. In visiting with guests and in reading the guest books, we find many couples who have come to Palo Alto Creek Farm to celebrate their anniversary. Anniversaries are special! In my line of work as a district judge, I see many couples who, unfortunately, cannot make many anniversaries. I always hope that they go on to find the happiness for which they are looking. My husband and I celebrated our 54th anniversary this year, so we know the work that it takes and the joy that it brings. Lupe does a wonderful job taking care of the houses on Palo Alto Creek Farm and takes such pride in her work. We also are delighted with the homemade goodies she prepares. And, yes, we know how fortunate we are to have her! Thank you so much for choosing to stay with us, and we hope that you do come back in April to celebrate your birthday. You will then experience Spring at Palo Alto Creek Farm as you have already enjoyed your stays in December. We certainly appreciate your return visits!

I needed a place to rest, relax and recharge and the Barn was the perfect location. My husband and I stayed for four nights. I could have stayed twice as long. The location is lovely and peaceful - farm animals, plus deer and cats, plus gorgeous stars at night. The bed and bathtub were both huge and relaxing. I loved sitting in front of the fireplace with a book. The porch is very inviting. We each had a massage in the "secret room." The breakfast food left in the fridge was abundant and of high quality. The TV reception was a bit spotty, but we weren't there to watch TV. You might want to arrive in the daylight because the Barn is on a farm in the country (i.e. no neon lights to tell you you've arrived.) Fredericksburg is the perfect getaway...plenty of things to do but not so much to do that you can't also have down time. I would gladly return to the Barn in the future.

My girlfriend and I were looking to get away from our normal life. We found this on one of the travel websites (Expedia) and looked more closely at their website. Here's what we found: 1) Great website! The really put a lot of time and care into putting together something that shows off the property nicely, but doesn't oversell. The videos they have of each building are what really sold me. 2) The property is wonderful! It's about 5 miles outside of Fredericksburg. The directions we were given were very easy to follow. Once we arrived, we fell in love with the place. Quiet, well-kept, and the cabins are far enough apart for privacy. We saw a couple of other cars there, but never saw anyone else. 3) The Barn is amazing! It's old and rustic, with tons of great modern touches. The bed was very comfortable. The refrigerator was stocked with enough breakfast food to make a large brunch each day. The bathroom is spacious. The tub big enough for more than the two of us. And lots of great knick knacks all throughout the space. We found new things every couple of hours. 4) Sitting outside at night was so relaxing. We each had a drink, were talking a little, looking up at the sky, and one of the cats on the property just came up to us and hung out with us for a while. 5) Only one small con. The cell phone reception was spotty. There's a metal roof and that was probably the reason. But the only reason we wanted reception was to get on Spotify so it wasn't a big deal at all. We loved our visit and would definitely consider staying here again. Oh, and the gingerbread cookies...yum!

We had a wonderful experience, staying at The Barn built in 1875. The barn 700+sq approx. had nice flow with four distinct spaces with an open concept. You will be surprised to see the unexpected size of the bathroom, which I would agree with Carter that the bathroom is far more important than the kitchen. The kitchen Included a stocked frig, with delicious choices of fruit, juices, granola, homemade muffins, quiches for breakfast. No need to bring any wine glasses, the barn had a selection of glassware. Bathroom had large candles, bath salts, etc to make a romantic relaxing evening. We stayed from Sunday to Tuesday, the most peaceful B&B you will experience. The barn has a TV with tons of DVDs, and some classic games for entertainment. Nice private porch to enjoy the country fresh air while reading your favorite book. The most adorable view I saw through the picture window were two cats in love, clearly love is in the air at Palo Alto Creek Farm.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a wonderful review for us. We hope that we provide a restful retreat here at Palo Alto Creek Farm that allowed you to go home rejuvenated. The two cats that you noticed obviously are in love and have been for years. One was a rescue cat from SPCA and the other came from a nearby ranch. We have always been fascinated by their dedication to each other. Thank you again for the review and for choosing to stay with us. We hope you will return for another stay at Palo Alto Creek Farm.

Booked this venue on the fly. Stayed one night in the Barn and wished that we would have booked two. The cleanliness is impeccable, the breakfast is great, loved the scenery and very close to town. Met the owners and they were fantastic and solidified the fact that we would come back to stay again. It would be a great friends' weekend trip to rent out several of the accommodations at once. Can't say enough and again, can't wait to go back!

This cozy cabin provided just the relaxation we needed. The living area contained a gas log fireplace, sofa, two reading chairs and a corner hutch with TV. The dining area and small kitchen with a Jenn-Air range was open to the living. Lupe provided the most delicious breakfasts in our fridge to be reheated at our choosing. No vouchers used like some B&B's in Fredericksburg. This farm is 5 miles north of town. The bedroom contains a "hip-high" king size bed. Once in, you don't want to leave. The bathroom contains a deep corner whirlpool tub, a Kiva gas log fireplace and a separate shower. Stain-glass windows are above the tub and hearth. The cabin has both front and rear porches, perfect for your morning coffee or afternoon glass of wine. You can stroll the grounds and view longhorns, donkeys, deer, birds and the resident cats. Peaceful, pastoral perfection. Planning to return.

So many things were great: the breakfast food, comfortable bed and cute goats with bells around their necks. But the Barn needs many updates. The space needs editing. Their is no place to set anything down. With the two sunken areas, it's challenging to move around. There was a lovely view outside our window, which I took advantage of since all they had was antenna TV. Our choice of programs was old westerns, old sitcoms and other weird stuff. For the price charged, there should have been cable or dish TV. The VCR would not work. There was no information on how to use it. The bathroom was the biggest, nicest room. The giant tub might have been good, but it took over one hour to fill because the water pressure was so weak. The hand held spray did not work. The microwave in the kitchen was worn out and did not work well. The place needs to lose some furniture, and get updated. And if the owners want to charge upscale prices, do something about the water pressure and upgrade the TV.
