The Hangar Hotel was uniquely designed with an exterior appearance of a WWII hangar of the romantic 1940s. The Airport Conference Center, Airport Diner and Officers' Club also reflect the style of the era and offer a great space for hosting events or simply for a weekend get-away. This 50 room boutique hotel offers a stylish adult environment featuring airplane memorabilia, USO history and the romance of the 1940s. Relax amidst the aviation-themed backdrop and experience the Hangar Hotel’s service and attention to detail, steeped in the excitement of a bygone era.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travelers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
This was our second stay at Hangar Hotel. Our first stay was nearly ten years ago. Thankfully, little has changed.
We visit Fredericksburg to see the National Museum of the Pacific War, and a stay at Hangar Hotel sets the right mood. The rooms are outfitted to resemble 1940's Officers' Quarters. For veterans, this is a posher BOQ room than you may be used to. Each room has comfortable leather chairs and 1940s decor. There is even a black rotary phone on the bed stand. While the nod is towards the 1940s, our king bed was modern and comfortable! And there is a TV in each room.
What this hotel offers that no other in the area does, is a beautiful veranda that overlooks the Gillespie County Airport. My husband and I took our drinks up to the veranda and whiled away an hour watching the planes arrive. And the veranda faces west ... the perfect spot to catch the sunset.
A shout out to Cindy our afternoon desk clerk. She was awesome with suggestions on places in the area to visit and a lifesaver with a bottle opener (which we forgot to pack).
There is also an Officers Club that was hit with a broken pipe during the recent polar vortex. It was not open during our visit, but should be opening soon. And next door is the Airport Diner (limited hours Thursday - Sunday).
We found Hangar Hotel pricing to be very competitive with other local hotels. Realize the hotel is located at the airport/fair grounds, about three miles out of the downtown area of Fredericksburg. That was a plus for us (fewer tourists), but would be more of issue if you don't have a car. Rooms do not have frig or coffee maker, but coffee is available in the lobby 24/7.
Also note ... this is an adult only hotel, so not appropriate for families with kiddos.
We loved the stay. We enjoyed the ambiance and had a blast watching the small planes come and go. Our rooms were spotless and the hotel was exceptionally clean and well kept. The lavender scented toiletries were a nice touch, too. Most strongly recommend Hangar Hotel!
Extra note: Backwoods BBQ is located about a mile away and great dinner/lunch spot if you are looking for BBQ ... go early as they often sell out before closing.

This hotel is over the top fantastic! RIGHT on the tarmac of the Gillespie County Airport. The front desk people go out of there way to be friendly, the rooms are immaculate with special little touch’s like a candle in the window. (A symbol of welcome ). There is an era specific diner across from the hotel that has wonderful food. I highly recommend this hotel.

The Hangar Hotel is located off highway 16 in Fredericksburg, Texas. The hotel is a former air plane hanger with a WW II theme. There is historical memorabilia throughout the hotel and the rooms are awesome. It's like living in the 1930's thru 1940's. They have a bar with a pool table and happy hour. There is a dinner that serves excellent food with a unique menu. The staff is willing to accommodate you what ever your needs are. The price of the rooms are very reasonable The Hangar Hotel is a one of a kind place you should experience, you will not be disappointed

We couldn't wait to check-in to this great concept of a hotel with such a nostalgic vibe with WWII decor! Unfortunately, we were greeted by the night manager with a list of "What's Not Available and Can't Do" rules. I stated that it would have nice to have been aware of these prior to arrival.
Our Room #25 was spacious but certainly needed some TLC - The Bathroom Vanity definitely required a coat of paint and the 2 leather arm chairs had signs of wear and tears in the leather upholstery and the interior lighting was very poor.
Additionally, neither the Officers Club nor the diner were opened for beverages/food options. Instead, we were offered "scones" in paper sacks. Not the most appetizing nor appealing way to start your day.
For an former Officer in the Royal Danish Air Force, my husband was waiting with great expectation to stay at this facility, however, he was disappointed with the accommodations but did find the airport take-offs/landings fulfilling.
I think the Hangar Hotel has great potential but to get return visitors and better reviews, a little more attention to details would greatly improve your ratings for the price of rooms.

Quite possibly one of the dirtiest hotels we’ve ever stayed in. The lighting was very poor in the room. The bathroom walls and doors were splattered with toothpaste and who knows what else. I took a wash cloth and wiped down the walls, doors, etc. in the bathroom and it was filthy. The front desk staff was hot and cold...one woman in particular was rude and condescending. This hotel was not worth the money. We love Fredericksburg but we will not return to The Hangar.

My husband and I just had such an amazing get-away in Fredricksburg at the Hangar Hotel. Everything about the hotel was top notch! We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere, fresh coffee in the morning along with fresh pastries. The Officer's Club was such a relaxing time to sit and read and play a game of pool. Also, Friday and Saturday evenings we enjoyed local musicians playing the piano as we enjoyed Texas style appetizers, beer, drinks and wine. The observation deck was an added bonus as we watched small and larger planes take-off and land. Also, don't forget about The Diner open for breakfast and lunch. Great food!

I was referred by a friend that told me this was a great place, but I never dreamed how amazing this place would be. First Cindy at the from desk was amazing. She was very welcoming and knew all the right place to go in the area. This hotel is on the Gillespie County Airport runway and it is a blast sitting at the Tiki bar watching the planes come and go right in front of you. The rooms decor represents the 1940's. The Officer's Club/Bar is representative of the 1940's as well as the hotel diner. There are ample observation decks with comfortable rocking chairs for all to view the planes coming and going. My husband is a pilot so we flew our plane down for a couple days in Fredericksburg. We loved being able to park our plane right in front of the hotel. The room was just what we needed and had the most comfortable leather chairs we have ever sat on. The officers club was a great place to grab a drink & listen to music at the end of the day. The front desk and bartenders were all very nice. We loved sitting out on the balcony and watching the planes.

Honestly, from all the amazing helpful staff, to the smallest detail of their decor this place was AMAZING. Really like stepping back in time! The room was beautiful and the bar was gorgeous! The front desk staff (shout out to Cindy who hooked us up with the best restaurant suggestions EVER) was over and above helpful. They also gave great tips on local wineries. We cannot WAIT to go back and I can honestly say that this hotel was the best part of our stay in Fredericksburg! I really can't say enough good things about this hotel!

The Hangar Hotel met our expectations; clean, convenient (we flew in), and friendly desk reception. Amenities include typical bathroom fair (hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, bath gel/soap, lotion), coffee and tea near the lobby (all day), and scones upon request at the front desk (for breakfast). We were delighted to see that swallows had built nests on the balcony and we were able to watch them feed their young. Our only complaint would be the bed and pillows (not comfortable).

There are no in room coffee makers. At first I was bummed by this but the coffee service was always available just outside the elevator on the ground floor, the coffee was fresh and good and there were often snacks. I found it not to be a problem, to my surprise.
There are more places to choose from in the Fredericksburg area.
