My family and I visited "Jellystone Wine Country" 5/21/23-5/23/23, We checked in late Sunday night. The office wasn't open but they left a map and our wristbands in a box at the “Ranger Station”. Upon arriving in our cottage, we found it a little less clean that we would like, but nothing outrageous. We really didn’t get a good look at the park since it was dark. Before I continue my review, I think it’s important for me to clarify a little about me and my family. We are not super picky complainers. We probably let things slide more than we should without speaking up. Also, my parents have been involved in motel management for many years and even ran a motel in Fredericksburg at one time. All of this said, I understand the struggles associated with the hospitality business and offer a lot of grace. The next morning (Monday) we woke up and decided to walk around the park and get our bearings. The first disappointment we encountered was there was no place to eat breakfast on premises. I think we would have known this if we would have investigated on the website further, this was my fault but still a disappointment. Our next disappointment was that the water park was closed. We enquired with staff and they told us it had only been open on the weekends and that it wouldn’t be open on weekdays until after Memorial Day. This was not on the website. Our children are 6 and 3, and the waterpark was the main reason we decided to visit Jellystone. We called the front desk to discuss this and the representative told us she would pass our disappointment to the owner. The representative called us back and let us know the owner would reduce our stay by 10%. This amounted to roughly $55 dollars. With the price issue aside, the following a breakdown of how we viewed Jellystone overall. Pros: Location: The location is great if you are interested in doing a wine tour or being relatively close to Luckenbach. If you have an RV or want to camp, definitely a place to consider, and with an RV or tent you will eliminate some of the issues with the facilities we encountered. Staff: Ann in the Ranger Station was kind and courteous. It was uncrowded and we had the pool and splash pad to ourselves. Neutral: Cats: If you are a cat lover you will love this facility. There are lots of cats around. If you have an allergy or don’t like cats for some reason, be aware there are lots of cats around the property. Cons: Bathroom lock did not function correctly. You had to “hold your mouth right” to get it to function. Also, the water pressure in the shower was very high. My kids and wife complained about the water hurting. There were broken electrical fixtures at the pool and splash pad. I believe the fixtures were used for speaker wire, but still not aesthetically pleasing. The grass around the pool was dead in places, uncut in other places, and had lots of weeds. I understand there had been a lot of rain, and I can write off the uncut grass and weeds, but the dead areas were not a function of that. There were fire ants by the splash pad. This bothered me. This could be a serious problem for a young child. There was a random orange traffic cone in the splash pad. I couldn’t figure out why it was there and if it was trying to mark something unsafe, which bothered me too. The floors in the cottage were dirty. The life size chess board had missing squares and in a state of general disrepair. Before the refund and taxes, the rooms were $247/night. I felt this rate was much higher than it should have been, considering the state of the facilities. I was bothered that after complaining to staff, the owner had the representative let us know the proposed remedy, rather than contacting us personally. I do not feel, even after the $55 refund, the property was worth what we paid. To me, all things considered, and during the time we stayed with the limitations we had, the property should have been priced no more than $150/nig …
