If you want to sleep, avoid Room 212. The AC had a consistent undulating roar. The wall and adjacent window shutter vibrated. We gave up at 1:30 am and changed rooms. No room coffee maker, but available for $4.50 downstairs. $30 valet was also a treat.
The Lumen became my favorite for corporate events and personal stay. The staff is amazing, especially Tanya and Eric is just tirelessly helping making sure that they are lifting their hotel to be one of the most loved hotels in Dallas area.
There's too many bad things that has happened in this past 3 weeks in this hotel. The day I arrived at night. My bad wasn't made. It was literally the cover on top of most likely not clean bed sheets. I called reception and they couldn't care less. Definitely no apology. After about a week in this hotel (I was there for work) I get out of the shower grab a "clean towel" that was beautifully folded I start drying myself turned the towel and POOP AND STAINS all over the towel. I took a shower again and dried myself with another towel that looked clean. I requested to see the manager and sent an email to the hotel. No one talked to me until after 3-4 days that I kept asking about it. The manager blamed it on her laundry service and couldn't care less about what I went through. After a few more days. I had to shower with cold water for 4 days straight. And my room was never clean. They would just drop towels and sometimes doing my bed. A LITTLE COMPENSATION? SOMETHING? Not even free coffee or comping my $70 USD food ticket. They brag about being a 4 star hotel? LMAO! The only amazing thing about this hotel is OLIVIA she's the bartender of the hotel she's a sweetheart and she cares.…
We have stayed here many times over the last couple of years while visiting our son at SMU. The location can't be beat....and they price gouge because of this, especially for weekends when special events or football games are going on. The website does a very poor job distinguishing between the different types of suites, so you really never know what you are actually going to get when you check in. They could do a much better job at cleaning. It's never been horrible, but the bathrooms do not feel clean and the showers often have an odd sour smell. Also, we have not had good experiences with the quality of the food at the onsite restaurant. I would never choose to stay here if it was not so convenient for our SMU visits.
Lobby, pool area, and Front Room are the highlights. The room was disappointing. Cleanliness and maintenance was well below what you would expect when paying $300/night for a "luxury suite." Dirty and stained carpets. Scummy and slippery floors in the shower. Missing drapes in the bedroom that led to a 6am wakeup on our vacation. AC in room not working properly had us waking up in a sweat while the other room felt like an ice box. Last, the paper thin walls allowed a crying baby to wake us up multiple times during the night from what we thought was the room beside us. Turned out to be the room completely across the hall from us. Overall, we wouldn't recommend staying here until the hotel puts some money into getting some of those things fixed. The staff is kind and professional. The public areas are top-notch. The Front Room makes good food and pours good drinks, and the waitstaff is solid. The location is perfect if you want to stay in Dallas, avoid downtown, yet still be close to everything. The poor state of the rooms, however, let this place down completely and will make enjoying your stay and your trip next to impossible. Fingers crossed those things get fixed, then this place would be a bargain at that price. Until then, we feel like we did not get our money's worth.…
Beautiful, modern hotel right across the street from SMU. Wonderful food and service in the restaurant. Only parking choice is to valet your car but you get in/out privileges. Our room was extremely roomy with a brand new bathroom that had tons of storage space.
In town for a family wedding. Hotel is located in a convenient area, but is way overpriced for the quality. If for any reason, you need to use the sofa bed in the suites, don’t. They are the worst “mattresses” I’ve ever seen on a hotel sofa bed, and we all know the bar is low for hotel sofa beds. Valet parking is required and costs $30/day; however, the parking is literally right around the corner of the small building…easily accessible to patrons. Not necessary to require valet. Decor in rooms is sparse. Our room was never cleaned, and we had to ask for supplies. Not worth what you will pay to stay here. Too many other great options in Dallas.
Great location, great neighborhood, but issues. Room was too small for a couple, no closet space, dirty alley view and light penetration made sleep impossible. The hotel staff was too laid back to be helpful and the room was dirty. The AC blew toward the head of bed only, without any directional vents and was noisy. If management can beef up service, reduce hallway light penetration, and fix noisy air conditioning, there’s a chance we’d try it again. The restaurant food was mediocre and the service was chill.
The Lumen is geographically excellent for visiting central Dallas, The Park Cities and SMU. It’s one of the nicest neighborhoods. The architecture of the hotel is bright, modern, and a smaller building that is quiet and personal. It’s a great neighborhood to walk through SMU or about 1/2 mile to restaurants. The rooms are comfortable with nice beds, linens and a large chair. The king room was small, no closet and a piece of furniture that is an entertainment center with a tiny closet and with no light. For two people, it was a bit cramped. The exterior balcony is small and has an alley view (room 206). The room was dark in the day and bright at night. The front door didn’t fit well and there was amazingly bright lights in the hallways that penetrate into the room. We complained and asked for painters tape to seal the cracks to block the light, but the maid and front desk were no help. The maid service was poor. Our desk was quite dirty and the lamps were very dusty. The restaurant food was just ok. The food wasn’t great and the service was laid back. I like the boutique concept and location, but we are used to a better class of service and cleanliness. With current staffing problems (assumed), we probably wouldn’t stay there again. But, I hope they hear the guests and resolve their issues.…
The hotel was just lovely. We stayed in a luxury suite, and enjoyed the amazing bathroom and outdoor patio. It was perfect as my teen had their own space on the hide-a-bed. The staff were top-notch too.
