We had an amazing time at Blisswood! We stayed in Lehmann house which was clean and had amazing views of the ranch. The main attraction of Blisswood is the ability to disconnect, experience nature and do lots of fun Texan activities. We rode horses, fished, threw horseshoes and did an exotic animal safari which was so fun. The animals are all friendly and cuddly. An amazing way to feel at peace with the world and experience Texas Country!

Overpriced and under delivered, that’s what describes Blisswood. The sales job the pictures do here on this website is amazing, the images are incredible and lead to believe that this is a glamping or upscale stay, but they definitely are very disconnected with reality. We stayed at the Dog Trot House (we rented all of the two suites), the furniture is old and some of it needs desperate replacement or refurbishment, antic is ok but some of it is just falling apart. One of the cabins has a very bad mold problem in the ceiling that is a health and safety hazard. Nothing was really clean, cockroaches showed up dead by the handful every morning, and we even got to see a mouse in the kitchen cabinets. We were there 4 nights, after the first one we almost called it quits and left but decided to give the place and the activities a shot since we really wanted to have a few relaxing days…the trapshooting was fun and the safari was a blast for our 5yo but that was all we got to enjoy. The pool was useless because it is not heated, and even though the temperature was above 80 the whole time it just doesn’t warm up, it wasn’t also very clean. The horseback riding was so disappointing that the owner gave us back some of the money we paid for it. The fishing gear we rented at a pricey 200$ for 3 adults and a child was never used because the fishing lake has zero infrastructure for sitting and fishing. The Show Barn is just a dumping place for broken stuff and toys, is dirty and poorly kept, animals soil it and nobody really cares for it, the bicycles Are flat, the “archery” is just shooting at a plastic deer from 10ft away with a poorly kept arch, the children games are just junk that was left there and they leave to have you use it… The owner, Carol, was very responsive and we thank her, Mr Skeeter makes the safari lots of fun, but Blisswood definitely needs a lot of help to command the prices they charge. If only they would invest a little in the place maybe they could even charge more and I would have been very happy with our stay, but sadly I found it deceiving and very expensive for what it is.

Jesus, Thanks for taking time to let us know about your stay here. I will personally post-haste check out items you mentioned. We wish we had been informed of any issues while you were a guest here so we would have had a fair chance of addressing your concerns. For my future guests info: As listed on the website, the pool is not heated. We have a Guest Services number available 24/7 for any help you may need or to address any issues a guest might have so we have a fair chance of taking care of any issues. We do begin our horseback rides in the barn, as well as other animals for our guests to interact with, and we try our best to clean as quickly as possible. We have a professional exterminator that comes on a scheduled basis. The fishing lake has a fishing pier for fishing. We wish we had heard about any issues you encountered while you were here so that we could have addressed them at the time. If you desired, we could have also moved you to another house that we had available. The only item you mentioned was that you thought the horseback rides were not long enough, and so I refunded you for 1/2 the ride. There was no mention of the horseback ride not being satisfactory otherwise. My deepest apologies that we did not live up to your expectations.

REVIEW: The approach to BlissWood was a step away from everyday life, revealing peace and serenity as we passed huge moss-covered trees that opened up to pastures with beautiful white Paso Fino horses grazing. Our Mystic Woods cabin set back in the thicket was cozy, warm, and inviting. The outdoor spa and shower were a bonus. The Safari Ride got us up close and personal to hand-feed bison, deer, emu, and miniature burros. Really enjoyed the trail-ride, and the horse I rode, Duke, had an easy gait, and extreme responsiveness was a plus. Archery with the sun beginning to set was enhanced by the new families of goats in the pen, the horses galloping by in the pasture, and the curiosity of the miniature burros coming by to check us out. Carol, the owner, was always accessible and accommodating. The Guest Service director, Skeeter, was very entertaining, knowledgeable, and vigilant during the Safari ride, and more. Jessica was a great trail guide. This was a most memorable experience, and we recommend it most highly to any seeking a tranquil getaway in a ranch setting filled with many optional activities. We plan on returning soon ourselves.

Do yourself and your soul a huge favor and plan a trip to this incredible haven for people and animals. Picture oaks and ponds and emu and grass lands close but not too close to a lovely small town with a bakery and grocery …. Thank you to Carol and Skeeter for their kindness and hospitality. Dog friendly, great parking, wine and beer available at the grocery store ( I’m from Utah and this is not an option 😊) We didn’t want to leave but will be back!

After 2 years of COVID separation, we were able to were happy to gather our 2 children, their spouses and our 5 grandchildren (ages 2-11) at Blisswood. Carol was very helpful in arranging our accommodations (Log Cabin, Ranch House Studio and Texas Farmhouse) that allowed for a huge, safe and enclosed area for the children (and adults) to run around freely. We stayed for 4 nights, which was perfect for us. We particularly enjoyed horseback riding daily in various and skill-appropriate groups, and the fun activities in the show barn, from ring toss to archery. A highlight was the animal feeding safari, where we were able to get close to and feed a variety of animals from huge American bison to a family of ring-tailed lemurs and lots in between. We all enjoyed exploring the spacious and picturesque grounds on foot as well. Although BlissWood is just a little over an hour from Houston, the difference is like night and day. We loved the fresh air, star-filled night sky and absence of concrete and noise. A huge shout out to Skeeter Hagler, the "concierge". He is an extremely friendly and personable man who seemed to do everything, from meeting us at the gate when we arrived after dark, to running the animal safari. All of us fell in love with him, and his delightful personality and approachability set the perfect tone for our time at BlissWood. On top of everything else, he is a Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer (really!). Kudos also to Jessica, our wrangler.

I was burned out and exhausted, pulled in every direction by work, family and everything else in between. After far too much deliberating, I booked myself into Mystic Woods - just me, the dog, a bottle of bubbles, some food and silence! It really was bliss at Blisswood. From the moment I arrived I felt safe, comfortable and had everything I needed to just nap, read, walk, reflect, meditate and enjoy some much needed "me time". The thing I loved the most was how I was just left alone to get on with it - I literally had the place to myself, yet Carol and the team were also just a text or call away if I did need anything. The property I stayed in was full of rustic charm, but also very comfortable, the bathroom was well fitted out with a beautiful modern shower as well as a jacuzzi/jet tub bath inside. Outside down my own personal path, I was able to enjoy my own personal hot tub or outdoor shower under the tree canopy. The kitchen was really adequately equipped with a microwave, a refrigerator/freezer, counter top grill, toaster, coffee machine and two ring stove top. No dishwasher, but I didn't need that for just me. The grounds are beautiful and I really enjoyed exploring with my trusty canine companion. I know there are lots of activities you can also do and add-ons for breakfast, etc. I didn't do any of those because I was craving isolation and solitude and got exactly what I was looking for.

I stumbled upon Blisswood Bed and Breakfast when searching last minute for a place to stay while attending the Roundtop Antique fair. When I saw the Safari tent I knew this was going to be a unique experience. The tent was glamping at its finest with all you ever need. On top of the comfortable accommodations just off the deck is a pasture with deer, buck, Buffalo, Emu, horses, cow and donkeys. Carol was so welcoming and checked in with me each day. I’m coming back with my family and staying in the Safari tent. It has the best wildlife view!

Blisswood was such a welcome retreat. It was peaceful from the moment I pulled up to the gate. Skeeter is so welcoming and down-to-earth. You can tell he loves what he does. I stayed at the Dog Trot House. I’m glad I did as the temperatures were in the high 90’s, so I was able to utilize the pool that comes with the Dog Trot rental. Carol is a gem. She works hard and is available anytime you should need something. She truly cares about your experience at Blisswood as does Skeeter. I’m grateful the property is dog friendly. I was able to bring my two border collies. It was beautiful to get to see them enjoy the ranch as well. If you bring a dog, kindly they mind the livestock as you are on their territory. Watching the sunrise come up over the fog in the mornings is magical. Sunsets are beautiful too. The animals on property (bison, deer, antelope , emu, etc) are well taken care of. The safari is fun if you like to be up close to animals. The bison are majestic and to be respected during the safari. I was able to see them run along side of the cart. It was surreal. There’s a male who will follow you around. He’s nicknamed “Mr. Pesty” aka “The Pest” for good reason. Kuddos to the little kid who appropriately named it. I was fortunate to have toured the numerous accommodations. I like them all for different reasons. They are decorated appropriately for their type/history (I.e. cabin, safari tent, historic home). It’s pretty cool and you can tell a lot of thought, heart and work went into it. You have to set expectations for your visit. This is not the Ritz Carlton. This is a working ranch. This is a place to emerge yourself in nature. You will see bugs, spiders, frogs, etc.. All accommodations have the necessities (bath/shower, AC/Heat, towels, mini/full kitchens). You will not have Internet or TV (only 1 or 2 accommodations have TV). I was grateful for this as it forced me to unplug. This is a great way to be in nature without having to rough it. I highly recommend Blisswood Ranch for the solo traveler, couple or family. I’ll definitely be back.
