Had the pleasure of meeting Wolfgang one of the part owners of the Buck Inn who picked uus up from the C2C walk where it crosses the main road to Chop Gate. Showed us to our rooms which are comfortable but mine was next to the highway and drapes didn't stop lights from passing traffic. Room was comfortable and roomy... More

We stayed recently at the Buck Inn during our coast to coast walk. By far the best place we stopped at during our two weeks! Couldn't fault the accomodation, food or service. We had one of the Garden Rooms which were set in the nice garden area to the back of the pub. As other have already mentioned we were... More

Some people on this thread have reported concerns about being charged for the lift from Clay Bank Top. Our problem was that they didn't pick us up at all despite many calls. At first the phone wasn't answered, then it was engaged for nearly two hours. We ended up having to walk an extra 3 miles on a difficult road,... More

We have eaten Sunday lunch in this pub several times over the last six months. It never fails to please: there is always a good choice of nicely done meat (at least four different types) with plenty of nice veg, including German style red cabbage, and lots of rich gravy. The welcome is always warm and the beer tasty! I... More

I cycle to this pub on a regular basis, so proves I am happy but tonight I have to say the meals we had did not reflect good value for money. At £14 for 2 small pieces of chicken, 2 potatoes and a small bowl of 3 veg (inc beetroot?) between 2 people was not satisfactory, to the point an... More

Stopped here with a friend for lunch after a long walk around the hills! The weather was appalling, but this place was amazing. Food was absolutely delicious - casserole was to die for! The beers on offer are amazing too, so much character for an INN! I really like the German aspect to this place also, gives it a whole... More

I stayed at the buck inn with friends whilst walking the Cleveland Way and just loved this pub. The pub has German owners and this was reflected in the excellent choice of German beers, (not good when you have to the walk the next day) and the rather excellent Germanic slanted menu. The rooms are small and were a little... More

Menus offers variety of roast meats with variety of vegetables. These were slightly disappointing with poor roast potatoes. Other Herman dishes offer more variety with the Pork Nuckel being different and tasty. Service is efficient but lacks any personal touch. Choice of German lager is interesting and certainly better than the traditional British lager. Worth a visit

Spotless throughout, stay indoors or in the cute and peaceful campsite at rear (for walkers tents, not six bedroom canvas mansions) with all one could possibly want. Even if you don't like wheat beers, the Blue Moon with it's orange kick is cold and superb after a day on the hills and should at least be tasted. Host is engaging... More
