Really deserves its 5 stars luxury designation! Visited during December with the Covid protocols in place. Pros: The staff is excellent and friendly. The room was very clean and modern along with nice amenities. The Private Spa Fusion is worth the price for a couple to experience The dinner at the La Marzoline was excellent along with the service. Unfortunately, the pool areas were closed, but they looked really great as I think there are like 7 pools. If I had a con, it would only be that some signage could be improved. Anyway, this place is a hidden jewel as it is only 30 minutes from the Bologna area. We can't wait to back!

Room Tip: Looks like most of the rooms face in one direction, so I don't believe it matters too much.

Hotel's Favorite
We decided to stay here on our last few days of our visit to Italy. We decided to stay at this resort since it was near the Bologna airport. The resort has very well kept facilities and the rooms are well appointed and very clean. They have several pools that you can relax. We were able to find the Olive pool to be empty where we where the only tow people utilising the pool for the afternoon. The main pool area was quite busy and found this to be perfect. They have this pool and the Rose pool apart where they allow just 28 guests in each. So be sure to check either of these two pools if you just want to relax. They also recognised the COVID rules, where masks were mandatory and social distancing was exercised.

We came here spontaneously for a long weekend after homeoffice was starting to get to us and we didn‘t want to fly anywhere due to Covid. If you are looking for quality time with your SO far away from people and don‘t wanna expose yourselves to any unnecessary Covid risks, this place is a good option. The complex is huge and offers a large spa, sports area, gym and two heated outdoor pools (in fall). Given that there were not too many people staying at the resort (except for visitors to the spa and brunch on sunday, which we skipped) and everything was very clean, we felt more comfortable here than in a small boutique hotel, which would have been our first choice if not for Covid. The pros: - very clean - large complex - comfy beds with a selection of pillows - spacious room - polite staff The cons: - Not the best sleep quality... and to make matters worse, on the last day of our stay, Godzilla and his family moved into the room above us. We had booked the noise canceling and slightly more expensive ‚deluxe prestige double‘ room but these rooms seem to be directly under the ‚deluxe’ rooms and the noise cancelling was a joke. It’s around 6:30 a.m. now and i’m wide awake, so at least i have time to write this review - the billiard room has the worst billiard table in the world, but in a way it’s so bad, it’s kinda funny - The AC in the room didn‘t work on the last night - The super bright bathroom light turns on as soon as you open the bathroom door, which is a killer in the middle of the night - If you like it dark, take a sleep mask Restaurants and Spa - there were 2 restaurants open, with the gourmet ‚palazzo‘ being closed. The restaurants were ok. There are a few michelin-star restaurants not too far away, if you book in advance you might get a table (we were too late) - The spa and most of the treatments are almost always fully booked, especially at the weekends, so you might wanna book ahead, just to be on the safe side. We still each managed to get a massage, though. It was nice. (They let up to 50 people into the Spa at the same time and that didn’t seem too relaxing) All in All: We had a good time and the resort offered the distraction from Covid that we were looking for. If we ever go again, we‘ll book better restaurants outside the property in advance and choose the junior suite with spa (it has a whirlpool and a sauna), so you don‘t have to use the regular spa.

Dear Nadia thank you very much for your kind reply and the quite detailed report of your stay at Palazzo di Varignana Your comments about our Covid-19's safey rules make us feel very proud because it means that all our efforts about safety had reached a good result We will double check our billiard table which is an antique forniture therefore it might look a little bit "worn" by the age. Regarding our Deluxe Prestige Rooms, we might say that they are normally very quiet. We wait for your return and we would be pleased in this occasion to book for you one of our vital suite Cordially Palazzo di Varignana

This resort has some of the nicest and comprehensive facilities. Huge spa complex , grounds for walking, pool table, ping pong, foose table, tennis. It also has its own private villa Amaigo for secluded privacy. It’s a shame then that service is so random ranging from very good to pretty dire. Staff don’t in general seem very warm or friendly however they do try to be helpful. There is some noise in all rooms from banging of doors starting around 6am... so although rooms are clean well equipped and having plenty of light and views they are not well insulated from sound. On this occasion we had a ground floor twin garden room. I had requested a very very quiet room so perhaps this was overlooked. I would love to give this property a 5 stars but because of some staff who don’t seem comprehensively trained and give out incorrect information the overall experience feels lacking in that extra touch. I would still recommend staying here because of the facilities. Room service despite covid challenges was also very satisfactory.

Spent 3 nights here for our anniversary and my birthday getaway but pretty annoyed but will start with the positives: - beautiful gardens - nice pools - Japanese treatment was very relaxing - nice variety at breakfast - waiters are friendly and helpful - porters are friendly and again helpful - all staff were masks constantly - mask is provided if you do forget yours (I did on the second morning at breakfast) - pools are clean - rooms are clean Negatives - with the exception of Michael and the night shift reception staff, day shift staff are not so pleasant. The male staff on our check-out was rude. - restaurant menu is overpriced, I had the catch of the day on our first night but wanted salad instead of mash potatoes and was charged for full salad as an extra but still didn't get the mash. Better to drive into town 10-15 minutes for great places to eat. - requested for room with a view prior to arrival but got the ground floor with views blocked by hedges and trees. However the room was exactly what we expected for the delux we paid for. - Michael at the reception did arrange to move us to the second floor from our second night with a better view but the room was at a lower standard to what we paid for. Shower was coming in drips, hardly any water. Robes provided was worn out and too small for my husband even after swapping with mine. Room was smaller than the one we had for the first night. - no complimentary teas or coffee or kettle provided in the rooms. - Spa pool gets busy so not much of relaxing there. All in all we were disappointed so I'm afraid like other reviews we'll be staying elsewhere next time.
