Travelers' Choice
In the early 1980s, Francis Ford Coppola visited Belize, immediately fell in love with the location, and purchased the abandoned Blancaneaux Lodge. For more than a decade the resort was used as a family retreat before Francis opened his tropical paradise to the public in 1993. Tucked away in a pocket of the Maya Mountains, Blancaneaux Lodge is a 20-room luxury resort where waterfalls tumble into turquoise pools above the jungle canopy. Its remote mountain setting makes it a perfect place to relax, rejuvenate and enjoy life’s simple pleasures.

We spent 2 nights here and there was not a single second when we did not feel welcome. We stayed in one of the river side cabañas and not only was the view spectacular but the room was incredibly comfortable. The room was extremely clean. Staff went in during the evenings to further prepare beds, clean the bathroom and lower the window drapes. Towels and sheets were clean. During our first dinner, we met Marty. Marty was very friendly, always making conversation and always attentive to our needs. Staff at front desk were always friendly. Definitely going back.

It is quite a drive from the airport but it is worth it. The setting of the resort is absolutely stunning. The grounds were perfect and the villas were more that we could have imagined. After one day all staff knew where we were staying and most knew our names. The food is outstanding and there is something for all members of the family. We traveled with 2 adults and 4 children. We felt so comfortable. We did many tours to see the caves and Mayan sites. The tour guides were fantastic and we knew most by name. We will definitely visit again and bring more with us.

The property is absolutely gorgeous. It is tucked into the landscape perfectly and purposefully. It is well maintained and just feels so peaceful. My wife and I stayed in one of the plunge pool cabanas and loved it. I was concerned about it being hot at night since there was no air conditioning and I like to sleep in a really cool room, but the nights in July were cooler and the fan running was suprisingly perfect. I do wish the plunge pool was heated, as the water was pretty cold, but it did not keep me from using it. The staff was amaing and provided unmatched first class service. They knew our names every time we came back to the main building where we had breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food in the main resteraount was our favotire, and cocktails were all great too. I think one of the things we loved the most was upon our return to our cabana at night, they had come while we were at dinner at turned our bed down, lit candles and prepared our room for the night. This was in addition to the routine morning cleaning and was a great treat to come back to. We hung out at the hot pool and the servers brought us drinks while we stayed warm in the hot pool and visited with our friends. We made the hike over to the Big Rock Waterfalls. It is definitely a hike to it, but worth it when we got there. You can take the road path which is easier, which we did on the return, but we did not mind the hike, its just 45-60 minutes of trails (nothing too crazy). We only stayed for three days before heading down to Placencia, but I wish we had stayed at least one more day to do the horseback riding and just relax for one more day. I cannot reccommend this property enough. Highly recommend!!

This was our second time staying at Blancaneaux, the first being our honeymoon 14 years ago. It was just as lovely as I remembered it. The grounds are gorgeous, our cabana and views were great. What really makes this place stand out though, is the staff. Every single one of them. They know your name, they know what activity you did that day and what you’ll do the next day. One of our many lovely guides, Heraldo (hopefully I spelled that right) has an encyclopedic knowledge of the area and wildlife, which he shared during our Barton Creek tour. Melvin as well, who guides for Turtle Inn too, is an actual ornithologist! So if you are into birds, this resort has you covered. Important piece for us: an Excellent bartender, Ernesto, who is both charming and good at his job. We did a cooking class with Minor, the chef at the restaurant in their organic garden, and we learned a ton about local dishes and ingredients and it was fabulous to break bread with him. A wine tasting with Edmund, was also excellent. Zero complaints over here. The world is a big place to explore, and so it’s hard to commit to coming back to an exact spot, but Blancaneaux, I hope I see you in another 14 years! Cheers!

Wow, don’t know where to start as the entire experience was superlative. My wife and I travel extensively and the Coppola resorts are in the top 1% of places we have stayed. Bernie and the entire staff make you feel like family and every creature comfort is provided with a smile. We have stayed at Turtle Inn (the sister resort at Placencia) several times and now have found our jungle paradise home away from home (we now live on Ambergris Caye after moving from Ohio). The food was superb and a fantastic culinary experience. Make sure to arrange the Garden dinner and Guatemalan room dinner. There are a plethora of excursions to choose from with world class service provided by the resort. Caracol and ATM cave are bucket list excursions. We loved it so much we extended our stay. One hallmark of a great resort is the loyalty and longevity of the staff that both Turtle Inn and Blancaneaux enjoy. Scott and Valerie

This resort is spectacular - from the views, to the villas, to the landscape - it will take your breath away. We were overwhelmed with how much there was to see and do, and how lucky we were to be there in such a beautiful environment. Our 2-bedroom villa was clean, had that upscale Central American feel but also took advantage of the rainforest atmosphere. My kids loved the hammocks. We had a deck right outside our villa that overlooked the Privassion River with swimming areas (that you can go tubing down). We loved our excursions to the Rio Frio Cave and Caracol - which everyone should do immediately before it becomes a major tourist attraction. And the hike to Big Rock Waterfall was worth the challenge as you can swim right up to the falls. Blancaneaux is a truly unique, gorgeous environment in the rainforest where so many one-of-a-kind adventures await you. The staff was superb and went out of their way to be helpful and friendly. Cannot recommend this resort enough! The only negative would be the bugs. But you are in the rainforest, so bugs are expected. Make sure you pack plenty of bug spray and just know that you can't escape them as the entire resort is open-air. Also, this is not a resort to wear high-heels at as it's very hilly and you have many steps up and down throughout the resort. Bring your flat, comfortable sandals and enjoy the experience.

My wife and I just returned for five nights at this lovely property. The setting is gorgeous. The service is amazing with everybody super friendly and we enjoyed the food as well. We would definitely return. I would note that if you have bad knees or not in great shape ask for a villa near the restaurant we were in Villa 2 and it was really nice but there were a lot of steps to get down there! Altogether this resort lived up to our high expectations.

Words cannot describe the beauty and warmth of Blancaneaux Lodge. From the moment you step onto their grounds you’re transported to an enchanted place. My husband and I stayed in Cabana 12 at the end of the resort which had a private infinity pool. It was so quiet and peaceful spending our afternoons lounging after our many jungle adventures. The staff is beyond incredible! Everyone was so kind and thoughtful and knew us by name. We enjoyed spending our meals and time at the bar getting to know Giovanni, Marty, Manny, George and so many other incredible people. It is them who make Blancaneaux so special and make you want to return. We can’t wait to plan our next visit!

My husband and I dropped by after visiting Caracol to have a late lunch. The security guard and the staff were very nice. The lodge was beautiful, and the restaurant/lounge has a cozy, elegant ambiance. The restaurant was closed but the bar was serving lunch which was a relief since we were starving. The view outside was beautiful. Our server was attentive and we enjoyed our food and drinks.
