Travelers' Choice
In the early 1980s, Francis Ford Coppola visited Belize, immediately fell in love with the location, and purchased the abandoned Blancaneaux Lodge. For more than a decade the resort was used as a family retreat before Francis opened his tropical paradise to the public in 1993. Tucked away in a pocket of the Maya Mountains, Blancaneaux Lodge is a 20-room luxury resort where waterfalls tumble into turquoise pools above the jungle canopy. Its remote mountain setting makes it a perfect place to relax, rejuvenate and enjoy life’s simple pleasures.

Blancaneaux had been explained to me by a work colleague as a magical place for a vacation and he was not wrong. We stayed 3 nights in this jungle paradise. The tours arranged for us were top notch and the staff were very caring and took such good care of us. Everything was really special. Don't miss the garden dinner and tour, even if you're a carnivore like me. It was very special and delicious. The gardens are amazing and provide most of the produce for the lodge. We booked the Enchanted Cottage for our 25-year anniversary and they made it so memorable. Also make sure to book the Rice Hut dinner for a romantic meal along the river. Blancaneaux - we'll be back!

I stayed for 4 nights as a solo female traveler and I have never been so well taken care of on any other trip. The staff were incredible and displayed a high degree of customer service throughout. I felt very safe and cared for during my stay and if I had an excursion not booked through their concierge, they made sure to ask when I was expected back to the property as a courtesy for my safety. The location itself is amazing. The property alone is something to explore. There are tons of activities, some of which are complimentary, so I was never bored during my stay. My visit occurred during the off/rainy season so at times, there were only a handful of guests but we were well cared for all the same. While it was the rainy season, the rain was minimal and the sun/heat would return pretty quickly so that I could continue lounging by the pool, etc. I highly recommend this property for any type of traveler. It was a wonderful experience and a perfect little slice of western Belize.

We stayed at Blancaneaux for four nights with our 3 children (14, 11, 10). The resort set a new standard of service for me - the staff not only accommodated all of our requests, they anticipated what we might need before we even asked. Travelling with a family of 5 can be challenging, so we verified before hand that Blancaneaux could put 3 twin beds in one of the villa bedrooms. I still half expected to arrive and need to make that request again, but everything was set up perfectly for us on arrival (which foreshadowed the amazing service for the rest of the stay). When we had our first dinner at the lodge, my daughter was too exhausted to eat, so my wife took her back to the villa. The wait staff asked if we would like them to have my wife's meal delivered to the villa instead (yes, please!). It's tough to single out anyone when the entire staff was so amazing, but Wilson at the stables took such great care of our newbie horseriding family. Miner in the garden spot restaurant gave a great tour and a wonderful Belizean cooking demonstration. George, Marty, and everyone on the wait staff was great at every meal. A word on the food - the fact that so many of the ingredients come directly from the garden really makes a world of difference. Simple things like a caesar salad become exceptional when made with Blancaneaux greens. The standout among so many great dishes was the chilaquiles at breakfast. The road into the resort is now completely paved, but it's still a bumpy 2 hours from the airport. On a hot afternoon we had some car sickness problems with my youngest. That deterred us from doing excursions that would have required much more driving. The villas are incredible. The pictures on tripadvisor just don't do them justice. Falling asleep to the sound of the waterfall and waking up with a beautiful view of the creek was just amazing. We didn't have any issues at all with lack of air conditioning (even in mid-August). During the day it was hot in the sun, but pleasant in the shade or in the villa. At night it actually got a little chilly and we needed a blanket. Overall, Blancaneaux gave our family memories that we'll treasure forever. I expect we'll make a return visit sometime soon. Thanks so much to the entire Blancaneaux staff for making our vacation perfect!

We visited Blancaneaux for part one of our two part Belizean honeymoon. The hospitality we received at this resort was top of the line! Everyone we met always had a smile on. They were very friendly and happy to talk about their country. The rooms are all individual buildings. We were in the very end unit that had a private plunge pool so we never had to leave the room if we didn't want to. The room was spacious and very comfortable. They don't have AC, but we went during the rainy season so the fan was all we needed to keep cool. My wife's favorite part was the candles that were left by the room service every night after we returned from dinner. The paths to and from the units to the main area made for a beautiful walk, although there were a lot of stairs because of the resorts location on the hillside. The river below was fun to swim in. The water was clear and felt very refreshing. The waterfall nearby was also a fun place to swim. One of my favorite things during our stay was the dinner in the garden. The head groundskeeper takes you around and shows you all of the fruits and vegetables they grow and let you try them fresh. Afterwards, the cook prepares a vegetarian meal from items you pick and you eat on the deck overlooking the vast garden. This resort was so amazing we nearly canceled the second half of our trip to stay there longer. You won't find a more personable and detail oriented staff. I highly recommend staying here when you visit Belize!
