My family and I had at long last returned to our native South after nearly thirty years in New York. My daughter (just turning six) is of the age where everything is horses, unicorns and fairies. What better way to celebrate our return to Dixie than a trip out to the Hill Country and stay at a ranch were we... More

This suited our family's needs to a tee. Spacious two bedroom, two bath, with kitchen, sunlit, immaculate cabin. And our dog was allowed. The highlights were one on one professional horse training, and a two person trail ride. You need to consider that this is a small venue, 4 cabins and 4 half cabins. There are no on site activities... More

We visited HCEL last week for 4 days as a "girls trip" with my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, her daughter (almost 13) and my daughter (11). You check in at the original, century-old farmhouse, and we were welcomed by Karen, who gave us a map to the property, as well as additional info about the area (restaurants, things to do, etc.) We... I took my girlfriend here to celebrate her birthday, and the peace and quiet here is second to none; sitting on the porch of our suite reading and watching the horses graze right outside our door was totally relaxing. Having a quiet dinner and watching an amazing sunset really made the day something to remember. The stillness and complete darkness... More

We spend two day at Hill Country Equestrian Lodge and had an absolute wonderful time. My kids loved it how we could wander around, from playing in the creek, to walking up and in the lush pasture, hugging the horses and enjoying the beautiful scenery. The horses roam free on the entire property and are beautiful in every way possible.... More

The private cabin was very spacious and relaxing. They even provided firewood for the wood burning fireplace and the fire ring outside, and charcoal for the BBQ grill. We also found tubes on the front porch to use in the creek running through the property, which was a nice treat after a long day of riding. We brought food and... More

We travelled from the UK as a party of two couples and included a two night stay at HCEL as part of our tour of Texas. None of us have any experience with horses and were concerned how this would limit our experience. Thanks to the wonderful staff and extremely adaptable horses it didn't. We had a great time. The... Highly recommend this little piece of country heaven. If you love the outdoors, peace and quiet, horseriding while in the comfort of gorgeous, well equipped, very clean cabins - this is for you. Well off the beaten track for complete seclusion. The owners Diane and Peter are really lovely and always on hand to answer any questions you might have.... More

...and came through with flying colors. By early each morning most of the water had drained and the sun came out for the day. The wrangler's didn't miss a beat getting the horses cleaned up (some were covered with mud) and tacked for a beautiful ride among the surrounding hills away from rushing creeks; we made it to a peak... I loved my stay and experience at Hill country Equestrian Lodge. My goal was to regain confidence, overcome fears and improve my riding. Dianne was attentive, detailed, present and consistent in her teaching of horsemanship and riding skills. She challenged me without making me feel overwhelmed and brought my riding up to the next level. Many compliments to the well... More
