We are a family of 2 adults and 2 children (11 and 9). We visited the Mayan Dude Ranch for a long weekend in February. As a matter of fact, it was the weekend with historic low temperatures and snow storm. But, we did not let the weather taint our trip. There hasn't been a review of this amazing ranch in quite some time, so I thought I would give you the complete story. Hospitality: You will not find anything better! The Hicks family and all of their employees were nothing short of hospitable. They made you feel like part of their family. Jurassic Judy's was always willing to share her extensive knowledge of the dinosaur prints and the history with anyone who was interested. She has an obvious passion for what she does. Tracey was everywhere...in the Saloon (serving me sangria), dining room serving food, in the gift shop...she was awesome! Cowgirl Kel kept us laughing an entertained every day. Greg (#7) was always smiling and bringing whatever drinks we wanted to our table during dinner. Wrangler Trey is so knowledgeable of every horse's personality and where they needed to walk in the lineup. And, a special thanks to Wrangler Ryan for always helping this big girl down from her horse (when Trey wasn't around) :-) Food/Beverages: Endless amounts of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Don't miss the cowboy breakfast. There is a hayride or horse ride out to a picnic area where Timmy (I think that is his name) gets up ridiculously earl to cook a delicious breakfast out on the ranch. The breakfast in the dining room is excellent as well. There are theme nights for dinner (i.e. Mexican, Steak, BBQ) every night and delicious dessert. You will never leave hungry. Can't believe I didn't gain 20 pounds! Beer, wine and soft drinks are complimentary. Entertainment: One of my favorite parts of the day were the evening activities. Cowgirl Kel was awesome! She had games ranging from tortilla toss to cornhole. And, don't forget the dancing lessons, hayride to a bonfire with marshmallow roasting. Evenings were a lot of fun! Activities: We were somewhat limited to what we could do outdoors because of the crazy unseasonably cold weather. But, we still managed to do 2 horse rides a day, roping lessons, whip lessons, hayrides, and a walk to see the dinosaur prints that Jurassic Judy told us all about. If visiting during better weather conditions, there are plenty of other activities to enjoy (i.e. pool, yard checkers, basketball, volleyball, hiking). Horseback riding: The rides are all "walking rides". This was different for us since we had been to another ranch in Arizona where we had an option to go on fast rides as well. It is my understanding that most/all of the ranches in Texas are the same way. Just a heads up in case you are looking to do some advanced riding. The horses and the scenery are both beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed every ride. Lodging: We stayed in Cottage #7. It was two bedrooms connected by a common area that had a couch and a fireplace. Each bedroom had its own bathroom. It was perfect for our family. The cottages are spread out throughout the ranch. The higher number cottages are more secluded, which is what some people prefer. We thought #7 was in the perfect location because it was close to the lodge and all the activities. Personal preference. My only complaint about our cottage is that the couch and chair cushions need to be replaced. They are extremely flat and uncomfortable to sit on. It was a little disappointing because we wanted to sit and enjoy the fire on a comfortable couch. The beds and pillows were super comfortable. We will definitely be back to the Mayan Ranch. We miss the horses and the Hicks Family already!…
I first came to the Mayan Dude Ranch in the early 80s as a teenager and absolutely loved it. Twenty-five years later I started bringing my wife and kids here. When given the option to vacation anywhere else for the last 12 years, my family always opts for the Mayan. The Hicks family and the ranch staff are amazing. They truly make one feel at home. The food, entertainment, and activities - from tubing the river to riding horses - are second to none. It is one of the few places where I can truly relax and it's guaranteed that the time will fly by too quickly. For this reason, we often find ourselves at the Mayan multiple times a year.
My family and I have been coming here for 30 years. We always have the best time. My kids talk about it all year long. 😊 The family that owns it is why it is so special!!! They’ll make you feel at home. We love the food, entertainment and the horses. The rooms have a comfy, rustic feel. The Medina is one of the prettiest rivers in the Texas Hill Country. Some of my favorite memories have been made here and we look forward to going every year.
We have had a two vacations there at the ranch and everything was excellent found not ask goer anything better. The staff is the best always at pure beckon call. I could go on and on. I rate everything a 10 Can’t wait to go back
Our family has been going to the Mayan for 29 years and it’s more fun every year. The food is fantastic and he horseback riding is great. The most fun is talking to the Hicks family who are the owners. They make you feel like you are part of their family and believe me they are not boring!! We have been there three times this year already. This place can not be beat!!!
