I took my son, his wife and two daughters to the Mayan Dude Ranch for our annual family vacation this year. This vacation will remain in our hearts and memories for being a wonderful experience. The accommodations are rustic, so don't expect a 5 star hotel experience. You will not be coddled and pampered here, but then it is a dude ranch. What you can expect are two trail rides daily, great wholesome family activities and entertainment provided by the Hicks family. The Hicks family may not be award winning entertainers, but what they may lack in polish, they more than make up for in enthusiasm. The pool is huge and very nice, and the food is fantastic! Real home cooking. Nothing fancy, but soooo good! The hospitality here was so welcoming, we hated to leave.

Fun, fun, Fun! The Staff is excellent, the food is excellent, the horseback riding is excellent! Great fun, expect to get fatten up like a steer. Very rustic cabins, but they are part of total experience! You will enjoy and town of Bandera is also excellent.

We had an excellent time at the ranch! Stayed for 2 nights in adjoining rooms; very spacious for the 4 of us. Activities were plentiful and diverse. Food was excellent (especially the brisket!!). Staff was most friendly and helpful. Highly recommend for a special vacation with family!

We just finished up a stay with our two boys and we all had a great time. The cowboy breakfast was the best breakfast I’ve ever had in my life. I loved having all the food on the open fire and I could put that hot pepper gravy on everything I ate. There was so much good food and always plenty of it and you were never rushed. It was my first time on a horse and the horses were so gentle and the cowboys were really great about getting everyone on and staying with us for the ride. They had a few cute nighttime activities and we spent the afternoon in the pool. I think my favorite part was going up to fossil Hill. The hill is really well marked off and if you get a chance see Judy before heading up and she will tell you what to look for. Our rooms Rustic look very clean. Overall A great stay and a lot of fun, something very different from what we get to do in New Jersey.

If I could give it a 10, I would. I have spent some time reading reviews before posting this one. As you can see, this establishment has an excellent reputation. But there are a few bad reviews that I would like to address. First of all, this is not a fancy high class resort, nor do they claim to be. This as an honest western guest ranch. Do not expect luxury here, just expect a real western ranch experience. The lodge and rooms are very rustic, but also very roomy and comfortable. This is not a hotel. Expect the normal stuff that happens with a large family but also the best parts of being with family. The family here felt like the family that I have always wanted. There have been a few issues mentioned. One with the housekeeping, another with the horses. I can confirm that any issues with the rooms have been resolved. The same thing can and has happened with me several times at numerous hotels that I have stayed at. Instead of being outraged, I have put myself in the shoes of the proprietor and can understand how it can happen. As for the issues with dogs spooking the horses, how can anyone control stray dogs. Horses do not like unexpected noises so if you are going to ride, you need to understand that. What I can say is that we had an incident with a barking dog and Tommy was very cautious when he heard a dog barking and ordered everyone off the horses. There ended up to be no issues but the ranch hands were very prepared. Please be aware that due to insurance and Texas law, the ranch can not let anyone over 240 pounds to ride, nor can anyone under six years. But the wranglers will let youngster ride on a horse while they are led around. The horses were awesome, and enjoyed our attention. I recommend Whiskey, Grinch, Tank, Cinco, Trigger, Champ, Harley and Faith. The food was awesome and the games and other activities were great. I want to thank Cowgirl Kel, Jurassic Judy and DJ Ricochet for the awesome customer service. The experience was worth many times what we paid for. WE WILL BE BACK!

What an amazing spot! On a whim, we added 2 nights at the Mayan Ranch to our TX Thanksgiving adventure. TOTAL. JACKPOT!!! The ranch is 1 mile from the adorable town of Bandera, TX- Cowboy Capital of the United States. There's shopping, restaurants, saloons, and great people watching. We checked into the ranch after lunch on Friday and were able to go out on the afternoon ride. Then there was a trick roper who served as entertainment before dinner. The meals were fresh and fantastic. My teens eat A LOT. I loved the fresh rolls at each meal. And the steak dinner is something we will talk about for years to come. Due to Covid, families were assigned tables in the dining room and spaced throughout the space. (In warmer weather, most meals are eaten outside.) Friday night's entertainment was a variety show performed by the ranch staff. It was amazing. Saturday morning included a great breakfast then time with Jurassic Judy learning about the dinosaurs who first roamed the ranch. Then we had a morning ride and lunch. The boys participated in bb gun shooting before dinner Saturday and after dinner was cowboy Bingo. We booked a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom set up in the lodge which was spotless when we arrived. Much appreciated. Next time we will try to book a cottage. It was too chilly over Thanksgiving to use the swimming pool- but it is a great facility that must be the hub of all action during the spring, summer, and early fall. Kowgirl Kel is a national treasure. She made us feel welcome and included. This was our 3rd guest ranch stay and our first ranch experience in Texas. The only thing missing for us- was a bit more time on horseback. This is a perfect spot for multigenerational family trips and family holidays! WE LOVE vacations that offer us a packed itinerary-keeping everyone busy and engaged throughout the day.

Everything was Amazing from Tracey’s morning carafe of coffee to the peacock that greeted me at the door! Family is what makes the world go around and I’ve never felt more welcome to the family in those three short days in my life! Everyone was always smiling and personable and eager to please. The food was outstanding and the rooms were very clean and well kept. We had 57 and 58 which I was able to enjoy the sunrise every morning with a cup of Tracey’s coffee, the best tasting coffee I’ve ever had! The horse back riding, all the wildlife, games and the warm fires were a true blessing. I bonded with a horse named, “Tank!” I can’t wait to ride him again next year, what an amazing horse he is! There is so much I was highly Impressed about I could keep on writing a book. Thank you to everyone of y’all’s family from the bottom of my heart and we will definitely see y’all next year, the good Lord willing! Until then, may all of the Hick’s family have a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year! Love Y’all Michael J Termin

How do I start this. On one of the reviews I read „Dirty Dancing vibes“. Yes, in a very very positive way with alot of authentic Texas added in. We had the best time ever. From walking in on Kowgirl Kel without a reservation to meeting great people over our sadly only two night stay, it was just downright amazing how friendly people can be. From the food which was always plenty and very tasting to chatting it up with guests and staff (yeah Kevin you where a fantastic stand-in bartender) . Sooo much fun. Thank y‘all for the memories for a lifetime which we get to take back home to Germany.

We just returned from a four night stay at the Mayan - 21 of us ranging in ages from 5 weeks to 71 and mostly children under 12 years old. It couldn't have been any better unless the weather was cooler! One day was 98 degrees, but with the pool and the river we still managed to stay comfortable. We stayed here 30 years ago, and everything and all the employees, food, horses and amenities were even better than I remember. I loved having 24 hour access to cold drinks and ice, the toddler room with all the toys, the game room - and these are things I don't remember from our last visit. The daily horse back and haywagon rides to cowboy breakfast were enjoyed by all every single day and the cabins were so spacious and adorable with all the cowboy "antiques." And, really amazing in this day of covid, we had daily housekeeping! A special shout out to Cowgirl Kel with her knack for making everyone have fun with country dancing, cowboy bingo and tons of games; and to Jurassic Judy and her enthusiasm and willingness to go the extra mile to search for (and find) fossils. Everyone went out of their way for us - one employee even went home to get a cable cutter so our grand-kids could use their bikes despite a lost key. Every meal was delicious and plentiful, including the snacks before dinner. Rarely do I return from vacation with so many accolades - but the Mayan Dude Ranch is really superb!
