What a wonderful time our family of 16 had in July at Firefly Lodge. From viewing the mountains, to swimming in the pool that is about 10 or so feet in the deep end (bring pool floats, toys, towels), to cooking in the well stocked kitchen (2 refrigerators, electric roaster, crockpot, old electric griddle, double ovens, counter top microwave, dishwasher, Keurig as well as an industrial size Bunn coffee maker, tons of pantry storage-including a walk in), to ample space in the bedrooms, to a great maintenance team and host, we highly recommend this place!

Enjoyed the wonderful view of mountains and wildflowers from the porch of our beautiful cabin. We appreciated our hosts who thoughtfully provided lists of local restaurants and attractions, TV guide etc. They had everything we needed as far as dishes, soap, coffee maker, towels etc, that it made it easy to stay at home amidst the coronavirus pandemic of 2020. A beautiful little slice of the world!

My church youth group had it's original summer trip to Chicago cancelled by Covid and we scrambled to come up with a suitable replacement. Our new approach to minimize Covid-risks was to focus on keeping our group "self-contained" for the week so as to have minimal interaction with the broader public and to focus on outdoor activities. That led to the Smoky Mountains and the idea of a retreat center for lodging instead of a hotel. I came across Tuckaleechee Retreat Center via Google, and after surveying their website and talking with staff by phone, I decided it was worth trying. I was not disappointed. Elk Lodge and Bear Lodge provided just what we needed in terms of overnight accommodations, rec rooms, dining/kitchen, and the swimming pool. Tuckaleechee staff gave us a list of area caterers and the one we selected (Chef's Catering out of Pigeon Forge) was superb. The grounds are pretty, the view is great, and the buildings are well maintained. What impressed me the most is that the staff truly turn over the buildings to you, and trust that you will take care of them. If there was any negative, it's that the buildings are not accessible by motorcoach type busses due to the steepness of the mountain and the narrow turns on the internal roads. Thankfully the staff had advised of this in advance and we brought a minivan with us to help move luggage and also shuttle people between Elk and Bear Lodge; that turned out to be a necessity as the road is extremely steep to walk without discomfort. If you have vans and cars you will be fine.

We (three adults) stayed in the Hemlock Haven cabin, which is a two-bedroom log cabin that can sleep up to 6. The cabin was clean and well maintained, the kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cookware, and from October to May there is gas fireplace that quickly heats up the main living area. This cabin also has a hot tub for 2-3, which we enjoyed, and a washer/dryer which came in handy for drying towels and swim gear after the hot tub. The decor was Christian themed, with Bible verses, song lyrics, etc., which was a nice surprise for us. We had a couple maintenance issues during our stay (it happens) and the staff was very professional, responsive, and considerate to resolve them quickly. I accidentally left a jacket behind, and the staff contacted me and arranged to get it to me, which I greatly appreciated. The location is just a few minutes from the main section of Townsend, which has some nice spots to visit and eat, including a pancake house and steakhouse, and is about 15 minutes from the Townsend entrance into the National Park. It is maybe 2 minutes away from the Tuckaleechee Caverns. We really enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend Tuckaleechee Retreat Center to anyone wanting to stay near the National Park / Gatlinburg without being in the crowd and bustle.

We were so impressed by everything at Tuckaleechee Retreat!
The ease of making reservations and the highly efficient and friendly manner in which our reservations were handled was refreshing.
We stayed in Cedar Cove which was extraordinarily clean and every special touch made the cabin feel so personal. They thought of everything!
It is such a a quiet and serene place to unwind but still close enough to take short day trips. We highly recommend Tuckaleechee Retreat and plan to return.

Easter weekend in the Smokies was mostly rainy, but having such a clean and cozy cabin helped to compensate for that! The hot tub on the deck (has a roof over it and a lattice privacy screen) also provided for a relaxing place to soak and relax at the end of the day. The location is just minutes from Townsend, which had plenty of eateries, and the rain let up enough for an enjoyable tour through Cades Cove. All in all, it was a very enjoyable weekend!

This was a fabulous home base for adventure in the Great Smoky Mountains. Our cabin (Cedar Cove) was equipped with everything we needed to prepare breakfast before heading out each day. It’s a great location, especially if you want to enjoy Cades Cove, the river, and the mountains. We enjoyed the salt water pool and just the peacefulness of sitting on the porch in the mornings and in the evenings. You can simply sit in set of God’s amazing creation!

Blue Spruce was a beautiful little couples’ cabin tucked up in the mountains near Townsend, TN. It was about 40 min from Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg. Of course, we visited some of the food and shopping in Townsend, and swam at the Wye. The peaceful and quiet location of this cabin was worth it - plus the drive into town offers amazing views!! We especially loved the jacuzzi and hot tub since we don’t have access to those at home.

We stayed in Hemlock Haven and had a wonderful time! The cabin was way nicer than we were expecting. It looked like it had been recently remodeled. The back patio was so relaxing with a reclining swing for two. The WiFi was great. I had to work on a class while on vacation and was able to watch the video lectures with no problems. We took the mountain trail hike up to the top of the mountain and saw a bear. What a cool experience! The shared pool was really nice too, but it’s kind of shallow. The only thing we thought it needed was a scrubby sponge for doing dishes, but that’s really on us for not buying one. We grilled out on the patio and cooked frequently. The kitchen was well-stocked. Overall, we had a great time and loved the cabin!

What a fantastic few days at TRC. I cannot speak highly enough about the experience. I stayed in the two bedroom Cedar Cove cabin, which was exceptionally clean, fully stocked with kitchenware and came nicely decorated with a Christmas tree for the season. And every cabin has a hot tub! TRC is less than 30 minutes from GSMNP, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, making it the perfect choice for adventurers (plenty of hiking) and entertainment seekers (with unlimited options nearby). Make sure to stop by the office and talk to the friendly staff about the great work being done with CBM! The ONLY downside to TRC is that the property is quite steep. This isn't a serious impediment, as you can easily navigate the property with a vehicle, but could be a small bother for older individuals. I'll be back again!

Hello! We do not have any rooms in Elk Lodge specifically designed for handicap. However, our Bear Lodge is handicap accessible for the top and bottom level, and it has a spacious handicap accessible bathroom. I'd be happy to send you more info on Bear Lodge if you are interested! TRC Guest Services

Hi....I'm sorry you may need to work while you're here for your getaway! Verizon and StraightTalk have the best service. AT&T doesn't do very well. However, if you can connect through our Wi-Fi, it might be the answer you need. Thank you!

Are the cabins within short walking distance to the largest retreat lodge?
Answer from Tracy G
Rensselaer, Indiana94 contributions42 helpful votes
Absolutely there are cabins with in walking distance. The distance varies upon which one you choose to stay in. There is a very good map to look at on their website. Keep in mind though that there is very little flat ground~ as the mountains are beautiful but not too much flat surface! I am from the flat- land cornfields of Indiana so just another point to consider!! If you have any difficulty with mobility, there are hotels style rooms in the retreat lodge available. Hope this helps~ it is a great place to stay with wonderful staff.
