Nestled near the natural splendor of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, Under Canvas Great Smoky Mountains offers a vibrant atmosphere with its unique tents and communal spaces that feature live music and activities to encourage guest interaction. While opinions on value vary, with some guests questioning the cost-quality balance, the amenities, including in-tent bathrooms and on-site dining, generally receive high marks. The location is also a hit for its accessibility to trails and attractions. Cleanliness is well-regarded, although there have been occasional concerns about the promptness of cleaning services. The attentive and welcoming service staff, however, consistently earns praise from visitors.

This place is so amazing, and wonderful for those who may have some accessibility concerns. I used a motorized scooter and was able to access everything, including having restrooms with showers that I could use easily! The staff was phenomenal (alaine) the supervisor for our stay even went above and beyond to make sure I could easily charge my scooter. It’s the perfect balance of going offline, camping, but also having the ability to be fully comfortable. I would recommend to anyone going to the smokies! Not far at all from Dollywood and other amenities.

Amazing spot where you can find peace and solitude just outside of red neck Vegas! Lots of great activities, food and fun. Everyone I interacted with was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Thank you guys for making my moms birthday so special. Decorating the tent, free dessert and happy birthday from the musician really made the stay memorable. Y’all have out done yourselves!

Our safari tent was a spacious tent with king sized bed & lots of pillows, 2 quad chairs inside tent as well as 2 wood chairs on the deck of the tent. There were 2 small fans that could be used to circulate air & a light on either side of tent to use for reading after dark. The showers & toilets were individually made for privacy & always kept clean by staff. Electrical outlet & a hair dryer was available to use & kept in the linen closet where a supply of clean towels and a hamper for dirty towels is kept. The dining area & food was so good that my husband & I ate supper there each evening of our stay. There were also activities ( for children) & music provided (one evening of our stay).
There was an assortment of beer, wine & speciality drinks that could be enjoyed in the evenings as well as delicious desserts. Coffee, tea, water & hot chocolate & morning muffins were also available & at no additional cost. The staff were always friendly as well as knowledgeable about places for walking trails and other areas of interest and the grounds were in pristine shape @ all times. This is a great way to enjoy being outdoors without all the hassle. We hope to enjoy more eco friendly Under Canvas locations in the future.

My husband insisted That I give this facility a 4* rating, but truely I felt it deserved a 3* rating.
The camp is located in a beautiful valley, about 7 minutes drive away from the hustle and bustle of Pigeon Forge.
Generally the place looks a little worn out. The furniture in the lobby/ restaurant/ relaxation area needs to be replaced.
Our tent (tent #8) was set almost completely under trees, which made it very dark and gloomy inside (especially since the weather wasn’t very good while we stayed). The tent itself was mildewed and had a hole at one corner where critters could get in (think snakes, spiders and who knows what else). In short it either needed to be replaced or scrubbed down with a bleach solution.
There were other tents set in the open meadow, which must have been far lighter inside in gloomy conditions BUT hotter than hades in the full sun in the middle of the summer.
The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food in the on-site restaurant is delicious.
There is a very nice grass field outside the main lobby tent where children can run wild or play corn holes, darts, hula hoop or jump rope.
The fire-pits and free s’mores are a nice touch in the evening.
It is quite noisy at the campground, our first night we could not help but listen to to our neighbors to the left noisy intimate evening, the second night our neighbors to the right, a family with toddlers, were extremely loud until about 10pm - so if you’re hoping for peace and tranquillity you might be disappointed.
To sum up, I feel the place felt over rated overpriced (glamping is trendy) and could do with a facelift. Would I go back to this Under Canvas Smoky Mountains location or try another Under Canvas location? I think not most likely not.

We liked the facilities, the food, the wood stove, and the bed was comfortable, but there was no way of seeing any stars out of the “stargazer” window. It was clouded, scratched and very dirty. Requests to clean it were met with dismissive responses, half-hearted efforts to clean it, or none at all. Even after having the water temp turned down it was almost too hot to be usable. It was also quite noisy at the camp, especially on Friday and Saturday nights when it went on past 3am.

What an amazing experience. We opted for a tent with the bathroom, a real toilet, and a pull chain shower with actual hot water. It was amazing. The tent camp is equipped with battery-operated lanterns and fans with additional USB ports to charge our cell phones. Though you will not have cell service or WIFI while on the mountain. The king-size bed was so comfortable and had plenty of blankets for the cool mountain nights. We left the windows cracked in the tent and slept great. Each tent has a wood-burning fire stove, but it wasn't cold enough for us to use it.
The staff was so friendly and helpful. We came without a plan and figured we would wing it. Each morning we walked down to the main tent for coffee (and breakfast if you choose to eat there. Meals are not included) and talked with the ladies at the front desk about what was fun to do in the area. There is hiking all around and there are trekking pools you can sign out during your stay. Whitewater rafting, Caverns, breweries, shopping, it's all right there. Highly recommend checking them out. We will definitely be going back and staying at their other locations!

We really enjoyed our stay here. We stayed for two of four nights Memorial Day weekend while visiting GSMNP. Be forewarned, this place is off the beaten bath and is about a 10 minute drive or so back into Pigeon Forge. Cell phones did not work for us but we luckily did find it with our vehicle GPS. The "resort" was nice and had a really cool vibe. Check in was easy, but parking was kind of a downer because we stayed in tent #20 and the parking area was away from our tent. We had lots of rain so packing and unpacking for day trips was a huge pain. So, just be aware that some of the tents will not have parking near them and you may have a short walk to your car. The tents were very roomy inside, and the king-size bed, toilet and hot shower were nice to have inside the tent. We didn't need the fire our first night, but with the rain things really cooled down so we did make one the second night. It kept the tent very warm after we were able to get it lit. Plenty of wood and kindling is provided, as well as matches and fire starters. Our view wasn't what I was expecting. We booked a deluxe tent and I wish we had a nice view of the woods, but instead our deck faced out over the camp area, but we had a lot of rain and didn't get to sit outside much anyway. Also, the shower was nice and hot and had tons of pressure, but be aware it is on a pull chain so you pull the chain to run the water to rinse, not a steady shower. It works out just fine but if you have a chilly night it's a little uncomfortable. The bed was the only thing I was actually disappointed in. For what you pay per night it's comparable to a luxury hotel and the mattress was far from luxury. It was very thin and had a piece of thin foam on top of it. Plenty of sheets and blankets and pillows, though. I just wish they would invest in nicer mattresses for the price you pay. I get that this is still supposed to be a camping experience without all the amenities, but the price really doesn't reflect that, in my opinion. We did not eat any food at the restaurant, other than the complimentary coffee and granola bars, so I can't comment on Embers. Breakfast is over at 9:00am so get there early if you want breakfast on site. There were lots of dogs and kids there, so keep that in mind too as you will definitely hear dogs barking and babies crying. Keep the fans running to drown out others' noises as well as your own. All in all we had a great stay and would come again.

Amazing trip! Fun and unique way to travel and get away. Highly recommended and would go back in a heartbeat. Loved being able to disconnect and enjoy family, friends, and nature.
Tent was clean and spacious. We loved having breakfast and dinner onsite so we didn’t have to rush out or fight the crowds. The smores and camp fires at night are always fun! This is our 2nd Under Canvas experience and won’t be our last!

Under Canvas gave us a unique experience in the Smoky Mountains. Glamping was a fun compromise between camping and a cabin. We felt comfortable social distancing during the pandemic in our own tent, while still enjoying amenities like showers and dining. The wood stove in the tent was perfect for the chilly April nights. The safari tent used a bathhouse instead of bathroom in the tent, and everything was clean and well maintained. Dining had a few options for breakfast and dinner, and everything we tried was delicious and fairly priced. Staff was helpful with hiking tips, friendly chats and any random questions. Location outside Gatlinburg was nicely in the woods with a clear area for stargazing in the middle of the camp. A little bit of a drive to the national park, but not too far to be inconvenient. Will definitely look at other locations to stay again.

Glamping would probably not have been our go to option while on a "normal" trip. However, we were visiting the Pigeon Forge area to attend a wedding and the bride selected Under Canvas as her wedding destination event site. The group took over the whole camp so of course we had a more unique experience than a guest renting just one tent. However, some things did remain the same:

The staff was really wonderful and helpful.
The tents were really fun and unique. I had a deluxe tent and it was very clean and comfortable with plenty of room inside and privacy. No bugs! These tents are very roomy. We estimated at least 15 feet high at the peak and probably 15' wide and almost 30' long. Call the camp for exact measurements but I want to emphasize these are very large tents. The bathroom in the tent was fine for us. The only thing that was a bit of a surprise is that to get water in the shower you have to pull and hold a chain to release the flow. It's a similar process for the sink. Washing with one hand was slightly different but not a problem. There is NO electrical outlets in the tents so if you have to blow dry or curl your hair you have to go to the group bathrooms.

Speaking of which, the group bathrooms were very nice! Extremely clean and well kept. They are individual rooms with a toilet, sink and shower as well as electrical outlets. It was nice to have a private bathroom for middle of the night trips but if that's not a problem you could save some money and book a tent without the bathroom.

Overall, this was a unique and fun experience. Pigeon Forge is a bit of a zoo with lots of touristy attractions. It is close enough to go, see and enjoy but staying at Under Canvas was like being in another spot altogether. A quiet, wholesome oasis in the midst of tourism overload.

A lot will depend on the time you are there: You won’t be able to plug a blanket in…the blankets provided were very warm but it was cold outside the covers. I also brought extra blankets and we wore warm Jammies and socks to bed. You will need to feed the wood stove at night to keep it comfortable. We were there in the fall so it was pretty cold at night. If you’re prepared, you will have a wonderful time!

We enjoyed our half day private hike with A Walk in the Woods. Our guide was great and enhanced our day. Also, Dave’s crockets riding stables. They have many different length rides- it was very fun. We also went white water rafting with Smokey mountains outdoor rafting. Highly recommend!

Two was plenty for us, but we had some weather issues. Obviously that’s totally unpredictable. I’d also say it depends on how you want to spend your days. There’s really nothing to do at camp during the day so if you think you have three days worth of activities to do nearby in the park or Gatlinburg that’s something to consider. I’m not a camping person either and I found it pretty comfortable, I’m sure it even more so without storms.
