So started our drive from top of NJ to TN and was worried we wouldn't have a room based on the reviews. I confirmed via phone but was still nervous. About a week prior I received an email where I could log in for information. I also received an email to fill out check in paperwork in advance. All that worry for nothing! We booked online direct with RiverStone months ago. Check in was great. The woman at the desk was super friendly and gave us a map of the property and explained where everything is located. We had a 3BR condo in Building 4. Unit 442. River facing on the 4th floor. We were right next to the steps and the elevator wasn't far. Loved sitting on the balcony and seeing the river and the mountains, and Dolly Parton Stampede parking lot. It was so relaxing. Liked having laundry, all the space, 2 bathrooms. Each room had a king bed! They give you a starter of dishwasher detergent, dish detergent, laundry detergent. There isn't housekeeping during the stay but that's the norm with the condos we rented in other places as well, we prefer it. Our family is all adults, no young children. Yes, the lazy river was crowded but it's 90 degrees and humid in summer, so of course people are in the lazy river. If my kids were young we would be there too. The indoor pool we didn't use but checked it out. It rained every afternoon so an indoor pool is a great option. Was also a hot tub by the indoor pool. Great location close to Dollywood and near the main road with all the activities. CONS: In our unit, the master bedroom, there was something wrong with the mattress. When you lay on it the area where your head is like 6 inches lower than the feet. This made sleeping very uncomfortable. I slept on the couch one night due to this. We all thought the pillows were awful. Very hard and uncomfortable. Next was lights over shower and jacuzzi in master bath stopped working. Same switch as the jacuzzi so that didn't work either. The next day in the 2nd bathroom light over shower and fan stopped working. Checked the box and nothing was tripped. We found out the issue the morning we checked out...the outlet NEXT to the light switches, in both bathrooms. The tiniest amount of steam makes the GFCI flip the switches off. Hit the button a few times and the switches worked...til the next person took a shower. So just be aware if this happens to you.

We went to Tennessee for the Ripken baseball tournament for my son and chose the Riverstone resort. There was nothing not to love. This resort was perfect. We had a two bedroom condo and it was huge! Clean, friendly staff.. and a perfect location! If we return to Pigeon forge Tennessee, this would be our only choice!

Truly don’t understand the negative reviews. Our 2BR ground floor, building 4 room was one of the nicest rooms I’ve ever stayed in. Staff was friendly with some signs of overwork, but those are the times we live in. Lazy river is outstanding. Fun place to chill for adults and endless fun for kids. Rooms are huge with full kitchens and Directv in every room. Recommended for baseball teams playing at Ripken.

We enjoyed our stay this past week. Young lady behind desk at check in was kind and helpful. Our room was well appointed, we stayed in 3BR 2 bath condo with balcony facing river, as requested. The views were beautiful and my grandkids loved the geese and ducks who wondered up to the building daily. Lazy river was fun and relaxing, there were times it got crowded but still plenty of room. Indoor pool was clean and not crowded at all. Wi-fi was spotty but still can’t complain. We will definitely come back in the future. Good bye Tennessee it was fun!!!

Riverstone called and canceled our reservation the night before we were suppose to check in, even though my sister had confirmed with them days before. The reason was “maintenance “ I don’t believe that because the other reviews I’ve read said they canceled their reservation as well. If I could give this place negative stars I would. It’s was very hard for us to find something else on short notice that also accepts pets. We chose Riverstone because it had 4 BR and that’s what we needed. People just be aware that you making a reservation doesn’t mean anything apparently. I will say that we did go through a 3rd party site but my sister did call Riverstone and they did confirm our reservation. Riverstone please do better in the future.

It started when I read some bad reviews stating that reservations were being cancelled due to overbooking. My husband called and confirmed our reservation and we were told that we were all set. Two days later we get an email asking if we'd like to come a day earlier and save 30% for that night as they had a cancellation. We couldn't come early so we ignored the email. The next day we get an email saying we can do early check-in blah blah.. half hour later I was sent another email saying our reservation was cancelled. We called the hotel and asked what was going on and the reply was we overbooked and are cancelling all third party reservations. This trip was made months prior as we planned a family trip as my daughter's boyfriend was going to propose to her. So you can imagine what it was like to now scramble and find a place for 9 people 2 days before driving 14 hours to Tennessee. We had no help from Riverstone to find something else or comp us in any way. They were so gracious to waive the cancellation fee . All I have to say is that someone was watching over us and I found a BEAUTIFUL cabin on VRBO.. Which cost less!! So thank you Riverstone for cancelling..my daughter got engaged and we had a fabulous time in Tennessee. If you are thinking of booking here .... DON'T DO IT!!

Response from Eric Treadway, General Manager at RiverStone Resort & Spa
Responded 4 weeks ago
Hello 198shanis, First, I would like to take a minute to just apologize that you had a negative experience with our property. We have, recently, changed out our property management system and it has provided challenges that we could have never foreseen. We are trying our best to take a proactive approach to these issues but as you can imagine it is putting our staff in an uncomfortable situation. We are here to provide the best vacation experience possible, and we know that we have, negatively, impacted that experience. For that, I can't apologize enough. Please know that once we work through all of these glitches we should not have any issues moving forward. I understand your position about not wanting to return again, but I hope that you change your mind and give us another chance to show you how we can provide a positive vacation experience for you and your family, With Gratitude, Eric Treadway

1st we stayed in a 2 bedroom in building 3 which was nice. We had a balcony and a screened in front porch. Overlooking golf course and close to lazy river. Inside was really nice. Everything worked great and this starts the negatives.... the internet sucks!!! Didn't work most of the time. Lazy river was fine early but later in the day was soooo packed you couldn't sit or float because of the amount of people. It was crazy! Plus it's a very small lazy river. You can't go to the pool because it's sweltering in there! Now the big reason for the low rating. We had several of the families, who had reservations placed at least 8 months prior, canceled. One family got a call to cancel 2 days prior. This is just inexcusable. Crowded parking was another issue. No restaurant on-site, no little store, no nothing. If you need a place just to sleep this is fine. Not really a resort, just a hotel.

I was expecting a lot from Riverstone especially after reading the reviews but unfortunately I didn’t experience the hype. I stayed in a 3 bedroom 2 bath Standard condo. Standard basically means old and not updated and that’s what I got. The place was clean but in need of an update. Carpet is worn, decor is outdated, couch is old. The condo felt dark with the red and dark decor, heavy curtains and such. The balcony screen door was broken so to open I had to go through the master bedroom and open it from the outside. The view was of a golf course with piles of construction debris. The people playing golf smoked cigars so I could smell it from our third floor balcony. I asked for a Mountain View but didn’t get that. It was nice seeing the fireworks nightly from the balcony tho. Before I dive in let me just say that after driving seven hours and arriving at the condo I was excited but was quickly let down. Getting my keys from the front desk was lackluster and took away from the experience from the beginning. The gentlemen who took my credit card wasn’t able to answer my questions. His affect was flat as he appeared uninterested or not knowledgeable. The female employee chimed in and instructed us to go the the welcome/visitors center in Gatlinburg to get info about hiking at the national park. I kind of expected the front desk to be knowledgeable about area attractions but this wasn’t the case. I was simply handed a piece of paper that had a map of the property. That was it. Nothing was mentioned about any of the amenities like the spa, gym, lazy river, indoor pool etc. NOTHING! I expected more of a welcome. Some enthusiasm would have been nice. So that pretty much summed up my experience at the resort. No spark! Just kind of eh. Yes there’s a lazy river but it’s small. The indoor pool is small too. I never bothered to find the gym. There’s no restaurant on site or a small convenience store or coffee station or bakery. There’s no fanfare! The Condo had 3 bedrooms and 2 baths but really needed a half bath as well. We dropped crumbs on the carpet and decided to vacuum. The vacuum had a musty and gross smell like the filter had not been cleaned in ages. I’m hoping that wasn’t the same vacuum they used to clean before we arrived. Yuk! The condo came equipped with a few Tupperware and plates etc. They provided the tiniest bottle of dish soap and a small box of laundry detergent for one cycle. We were provided with wash cloths but not enough to last all week. You’re expected to do a load of laundry to make it through the week. As expected we had to take out the trash daily. The AC unit was extremely loud and would wake you up from a sound sleep. I will say that the sound in the condo was pretty good tho. It was impossible to hear the other family members once their bedroom door was closed. The shower in the master bedroom is pretty big as is the walk in closet. But the WIFI WAS HORRIFIC! I’ve never been on a vacation where I couldn’t rely on my phone. I called the front desk and was instructed to go to settings on my phone and choose Riverstone’s unsecured network which was of no help. Wifi kept dropping the entire vacation. I went to the front desk and was given an apology and told that maintenance would stop by to reset the router in my condo. That never happened. So I have mixed thoughts about Riverstone. It has the potential to be really great but a restaurant on grounds is needed as well as an outdoor pool that serves food and drinks. Maybe expand the lazy river and update all the condos. A convenient store or coffee shop/bakery would be nice too. It would be helpful if staff were familiar with area attractions and showed some enthusiasm. We mentioned the broken balcony screen, smelly vacuum and wifi issues upon checkout and was given the same lackluster energy. So we kind of left feeling the same way we arrived- Ehh

The trip wasn't exactly what we thought going there. The fridge made noises and it didn't cool our food that we brought back from The Mill. The light in the show in the bathroom wouldn't turn off, so we were left with a light shining through the crack in the door; where was the light switch to turn it off? The lazy river looked very lazy and full of leaves and debris. The desk clerk didn't seem interested in hearing our concerns about the room. It was over priced for the accomodations. On the lighter side, the place was beautifully decorated.

We stayed here for 4 nights with our dog. Building 4 is the best. We booked a 3-bedroom, river view. The layout of the condo is wonderful, lots of privacy in each room. Granite kitchen, modern amenities, washer/dryer, large master bath and well furnished. The grounds are well maintained, parking is easy. You can walk down to the river from the complex which is a plus. It was spring so there were many baby geese roaming around the field next to the river. (Be aware of goose poop) Some minor issues: 1) on the instruction sheet it says to take the trash to the trash room (which you’re supposed to be able to access with your keycard) across the elevator in each level, but apparently the key sensor of the trash room did not work so people ended up leaving trash bags by the door of the trash room. 2) the lightbulb above our master bath’s shower burnt out but luckily the room was well lit by other lights 3) one of the toilet chain kept getting unhooked so we had to re-hook it several times which was kind of annoying. That said, these are typical issues which could happen in any resort/complex and did not affect the overall quality of our stay. I’m willing to give this place a 5 star since we had a good experience.
