My wife and I had a tremendous stay at the Opryland Hotel and Resort in Nashville, TN. We arrived on Jan. 3 and stayed in a room with a view in the Cascades atrium. We saw and heard the talented Christmas quartet in front of the life sized Nativity scene just as millions of lights came on outdoors. Not wanting a full course meal, we then had superb pizza at the fountains show which featured a four story tall light show, music and in sync fountains. We didn’t have time for the ice rink or indoor water park, but enjoyed strolling through the unbelievable Christmas decorations and troubadours singing. The tropical lush gardens were just terrific. 5 Stars+ to this magnificent holiday celebration of the holidays.
I’m surprised at the positive reviews reflected here, but sadly I can not say my families experience was the same.....rather far from it. My husband and I felt that the decorations the hotel put up for the holiday season were pretty, but that’s where the enjoyment stopped. Once inside the resort you are at the mercy of their pricing and that’s when the pick pocket begins. Upon arrival you pick to have your vehicle parked by Valet or do the self parking. Valet parking is $40. We chose to self park thinking that would avoid the high parking charge. You can imagine our surprise to find the daily parking charge on our receipt of $32 (of which we were not told in advance) after we checked out. The dining options are horrifically overpriced. One restaurant had a baked potato for $14, fries were $12, an Iceberg Wedge $14, and these were the cheap options. A bottom grade glass of wine is $12. You can leave to go out to eat, but honestly the logistics of it just aren’t feasible. Although annoyed with the price gouging on everything we were in a festive mood and wanted to enjoy our stay. The morning of our departure we decided to go walk around before check out. When we had about an hour and a half left before our required check out time we returned to our room to make sure we had collected all of our belongings and to freshen up one last time before heading out. You can imagine how surprised we were to find housekeeping had already gone in our room and started preparing it for the next guest. We were shocked. We didn’t say anything to the housekeeper as she was just doing what she had been instructed to do by her manager, but simply asked that she give us a few minutes to check around and make sure we had everything...which she did. When we went down to the lobby to actually check out we explained to the lady checking us out what had happened. Her reply was that since we had all our things and nothing was taken that everything was okay. I was dumbfounded. I couldn’t believe that this was the response. Since we didn’t want to run late we collected our receipt and were about to leave when my husband asked about how to exit the self parking. The customer service lady explained that we would keep one key and that we would use it to exit so the arm would raise for us to leave and then we just needed to put the key in the key drop box that from the conversation was implied to be there by the gate. Well, as we approached the gate there was not a key drop box. I hit the button to call customer service and they hung up on me three times, but raised the gate each time. So back to the hotel we go as we didn’t want to be charged for the key. My husband dropped me off and I ran inside the hotel. I asked the customer service lady sitting at the table at the front of the lobby where to drop the key and she pointed towards a wall with a group of people standing around. I finally found the box and dropped off the key and then asked a lady behind the counter if the manager was available. She explained that they were not there at the moment. I asked for their business card so I could call them later. In the meantime I received a survey about our stay and decided I would try to have my concerns addressed through that channel. I completed the survey mentioning the things outlined here as well as some additional feedback. That they could have supplies in the room for the number of guests staying in the room. We had three people (the room was equipped for four) but only had supplies for two. I also mentioned that having coffee and/or tea available for guests would be nice. The coffee set up in the room is subpar and you can tell nobody uses it. Now if they did implement these things it would make a a small impact on their bottom line which padding this number is clearly the goal at this hotel. This place is trying to “act” like a high end resort to justify the high prices, when in actuality it’s a low end hotel that is trying to quickly move the herds through while stripping their wallets clean . Oh, and I did hear back from the survey I received regarding my stay and they said they were sorry and that their customer service tells you about the parking and it’s in the small print. Did I mention I paid $458 for this quality stay? Never again.…
Stayed Dec 27-30, 2020. Nice resort, but the Christmas lights are always the same every year, nothing too exciting if you've already seen them. Due to Covid they don't have housekeeping. Which was great in one way(nobody in your room) but they charge you a & 25-30 resort fee. For what? They didn't give us towels, didn't give us the two free bottles of water, no new towels, not even internet when we were there, due to Nashville bombing.... So why the extra daily fee? Not to mention the parking fees. We stayed three nights and our "extra fees" were $198.00. For basically nothing. When paying over $300 a night, you should get parking for free. They are making everyone wear masks even in the gardens, which we liked. The rooms were clean and seemed sanitized when we arrived. Check in was a little crowded at check in and None of the employees were enforcing social distancing. We left a day early because we were bored with the area. Nothing really to do during covid. It's a pretty resort. But, wait till covid is over before going. Save your money. …
Always beautiful and relaxing....jut a bit more challenging this year. Having made 2 trips here in December, we were able to enjoy it being a tiny bit less crowded this year. Dining- fewer options with limited menus. Cascades American Cafe open. but expect a line. The Falls Bar has walk up drink service only, limited tables, no food service currently (and on NYE- No entertainment), Fuse is closing as of this week, Jack Daniels, limited menu/hours, Solario Cantina open in the evening only, Old Hickory open in the evening only, Stax Burgers closed, Paisano's Pizza open, limited offerings). Room service is available. Many of the gift shops are closed currently. Spa limited to 50 min massages Thursday, Friday, Saturday only. Shuttle service to Opry Mills once an hour only. Despite this, the hotel was much fuller in December than when we visited in September and October.…
Yes, this was our Christmas vacation. After spending literally hours on the phone with one of their CSR's correcting my reservations that they messed up to start with, in hindsight I should have just canceled and started over. Once there, it's confusing where to park and check in. Once we checked in and got familiar with the property, it was a great stay. The rooms were clean. We had atrium room. Just below a waterfall. For some it may be too loud, but we slept with the balcony door open. We spent 1 day at the Waterpark, we had our own cabana. Great service here. The food at the snack bar, very expensive but very good. We had chicken wings, lobster roll and a salad. In the Cascade restaurant the breakfast buffet was $80 for 3 of us. The food was nothing great. We had dinner there and again very expensive. The service was just ok. The Christmas package is not worth the price. The ice boats, ice tubing and scavenger hunt are for young kids. The movie thing, it seemed like we were cattle being rangled though as fast as possible. The Oakridge Boys dinner showed ,we were served sliced turkey, mashed potatoes, squash, stuffing. Nothing special, either was the show. Overall the place is wonderful. I am sure If the place was at capacity our stay would not have been as fun. They charge a $20 +tax per day resort fee plus $32/day plus tax to park on top of the cost of the room. Be prepared to spend more than expected. The spa service my wife loved it but again it was very expensive. The small pool next the spa didn't appear to be heated and it was cold. …
