I have been staying at this hostel once or twice per year for the last 10 years and it has always been a great experience. However, I won't be staying there anymore. Other reviewers have mentioned the reptiles...yes, one of the two guest lounge rooms is now full of reptile enclosures, snakes particularly. At times the snakes could be seen...

Don't get me wrong this is a decent hostel with good facilities and good prices, but I just found it all a little frustrating. Typical YHA older crowd, cold common areas and never anybody ever on front desk. The family room (1 bunk 1 double) is certainly good value at $27.50 pp however

If you are looking for a basic place to just spend your nights then this will do. The rooms are generally quite clean and standard. The staffs are pretty rude and unhelpful. As mentioned in another review, you can not get any staff support before 5pm. If you do not expect to spend much time there and are happy with...

What a disappointment ! We had a wonderful stay here in 2013 but this year's experience has been woeful. This hostel seems to be on the skids - cleanliness in bathrooms and kitchens not up to standard, missing door handle into lounge meaning awkward opening of door , smelly freezer section of fridge with frozen , dead mice used as...

Stayed for 3 nights last weekend. The vibe was peaceful and quiet as there wasn't much crowd during our visit thanks to the recent floods in the area. The facilities were clean including the kitchen and the toilets. The kitchen, however, was not really well equipped. The tea towels were disgusting and weren't constantly being replaced. The entire kitchen only...

Came here with 8 friends, students from all over the world and we had a wonderful stay here. The beds were clean and comfy - and not all bunk beds which was a bonus! The kitchen was well equipped and clean. The owners were lovely and letting us hold all their snakes and answer our hundreds of questions! Had a...

Was there overnight, arriving late evening and early departure, there was no reception attendance during the our whole stay but didn't affect our experience. Our key was left with clear instructions and check out was easy as returning the key to a basket. The beds were comfy and the wall heater was efficient. All the information about the area could...

The check-in starts at 5 pm. There is only 2 people working at this hostel, even if we were on a long holidays. They care more about their snakes than the guests. The kids have a great time with the wallabys in front of the hostel. It is great if you are independant.

I have to say I found the hostel itself quite disappointing. It wasn't bad, but in the previous similar backpacker hostels I've stayed at, amongst National Parks, Blue Mountains, Thredbo etc I've come to expect these usually to be the best hostels to stay in. Especially a place as prestigious, beautiful & popular as The Grampians. The Grampians itself did...
