Double Bay
Located in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, Double Bay is a one of the city's most beautiful harbor neighborhoods. Designer boutiques provide a decadent shopping experience and dress some of the most beautiful people in Sydney. Sit down at one of the open air cafes for a latte or a meal and enjoy the people-watching. Double Bay was once an exclusive enclave for an older, elite population, but new restaurants, late night bars, hotels and cafés are attracting a younger, vibrant mix, making Double Bay the place to be on the harbor.

Stayed on a public holiday and to view vivid. Normally we stay at the other intercontinental site but access was an issue and we're glad we took the opportunity to stay at Double Bay. The old ritz Carlton has come along way. The hotel has been revamped and all for the better. Handy to the ferry and only 10 minutes to edgecliff. Staff were friendly and our ambassador membership acknowledged with some little extra attention to detail. We will return.

I am a little late writing this review, however I stayed in this hotel in February and it was fabulous. I loved the decor and the service was excellent. I had a room with small balcony and ocean views which was beautiful. The room was spacious and clean, the bed was super comfy. I also had drinks at the bar which was really lovely and the service was excellent. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for something that isn't right in the CBD. Double Bay is a pretty location and close to the city to come and go.

Nice hotel but a few things could be done better. Probably a good idea that on check in one could be informed that the room facilities such as curtains, lights, air con can be controlled by the in room IPAD. I only discovered this on the last night. Also asked for our mini bar to be restocked whilst we were at dinner but this wasn't done and it took 2 phone calls after we had returned to have this rectified. But other than that it is what you would expect of a 5 star hotel, albeit with expensive side items such as valet parking but it is par for the course these days. The Stillery Bar and Restaurant ( in house ) is very nice and the food was top notch.

PROS - Housekeeping was very thorough and efficient - Marble bathrooms are very nice - View from Bay facing rooms/balconies is amazing! - Easy 15 mins walk from Edgecliff station, along with a 5 min walk to Murray Rose pool - Super fast and reliable wifi. Best I've ever experienced in an Australian hotel. CONS - Food in Stillery was below par. I ordered chicken which was dry and overcooked. When I brought this to the attention of the waitstaff and showed them the unfinished dish, just a shrug of the shoulders. Came back for dinner and ordered steak medium rare. Was served well done. - Key times are miscommunicated. For instance, guests must request turndown service "prior to 5pm" according to the bedside place cards, but it's "prior to 6pm" in the compendium. Not a big deal, but then Reception advised pool opens from "7am to sunset" but in fact it's "8am to sunset" according to the compendium. A 7am attempt to swim was met with locked doors. - Pool looks nice, but was filthy. I visited three times across the one day and towels, rubbish, used tissues, cigarette packets and empty beer bottles lying everywhere. Can only imagine how it gets during warmer weather when busier... - A guest left their bag with wallet and cash at the pool by accident. I called Reception who could not understand the situation after repeating what had happened three different ways. - Room service attracts a ridiculous delivery fee

Whether it be for Mother’s Day coming up, or to celebrate a birthday or other special occasion, what a better treat than to take your loved ones to a sophisticated and luxurious high tea. We enjoyed a signature high tea at Intercontinental Hotel in Double Bay, located just 10 minutes from Sydney’s CBD. It is an upmarket hotel and it oozes class. This 5 star hotel pulls out all the stops to make for a wonderful experience. Make your way upstairs to the lounge area of the stillery bar and you’ll find some high backed couches and an area reminiscent of an English tea room. Afternoon teas and High teas are steeped in British tradition. History has it that ‘afternoon tea’ became the bridge between meals, since the real “tea” (or dinner), was not often eaten until late. This was often a light meal such as cake or scones and a cup of tea. This became fashionable by Anna the 7th duchess of Bedford in the 19th century who invited friends over for the first ‘afternoon tea’. What we see here at the Intercontinental is an afternoon tea with a long history, and it has evolved into something that is still heritage based, but with some new additions like beautiful patisserie goods and even Martini’s. Award-winning Pastry Chef, Chelsea Logan has curated sweet and savoury items to fill a three tiered stand for guests’ dining pleasure. The bottom tier has the iconic and historic feature of high tea; freshly baked scones, both plain and fruit filled. Served with home made jam and cream, these scones were delightful. On this tier were also warm quiche with goats cheese and caramelised onion. We moved to the second tier next had fresh sandwiches of sage lemon poached chicken with watercress, as well as wild mushroom bruschetta with grilled leek and pecorino. Rounded out with blini’s topped with cold smoked trout with ricotta and black caviar. We always love a few savoury options with our high tea. The piece de resistence or sweets level on the top was a plate full of sugared delights. We all loved the Lemon Myrtle cheesecake with wattleseed crumble and Meyer lemon curd as well as an array of other delights. There was a special treat - a specially crafted macaron, that was designed like a work of art, sitting on an easel and a “chocolate” made canvas. The Mascarpone mousse and crab apple in a patisserie style piece was so cleverly crafted. There was a surprise inside - one was champagne infused, and the other caramel. Enjoy a glass of Champagne on arrival and later with your high tea, you’ll be able to order your preferred LDMT loose leaf tea or Vittoria coffee. If you’re up for something a little different, you can have a martini high tea matching experience or even try the Oriental High Tea. High Tea is $69 per person with Champagne, $79 per person with three mini martinis and $59 per person with coffee and tea.  Staff are attentive and absolutely delightful. This is a wonderful experience all round. Available 11:00am - 4:00pm daily.
